[[alternative]]Condensation and growth behavior of 2D Co islands on Ag/Ge(111)√3×√3 surface
[[abstract]]The Co magnetic super thin films on semiconductor Ge(111) surface are grown successfully by in situ depositing with MBE. Their growth behaviors and equilibrium structures are observed by STM and LEED. In order to prevent alloy reactions of cobalt and germanium, the Ag/Ge(111)√3×√3 surface, produced by depositing 1ML Ag onto Ge(111)-c(2×8) and anneal up to 500℃, is chosen as substrate. After depositing 0.35ML cobalt and annealing to 200℃, some structured 2D cobalt islands were started to be found. Raising the annealing temperature to 300℃~500℃,the islands become larger and higher. These 2D Co islands construct two shapes, the lower Shape 1 and the higher Shape 2. The Shape 1 islands (under 2 atomic layers) have the period of (√13×√13) and each layer separates with 0.05nm. Especially, the structure of this shape is of reflection symmetry and the mirror planes are along , , and axes of the Ge(111) surface. The Shape 2 islands (over 3 atomic layers) show another period of (2×2) and return to cobalt own separation of 0.2nm. Those island sizes also depend on annealing temperatures. Besides, by nucleation theory, the total diffusion activation energy E=2.39eV. All of the phenomenon may relate to the surface free energy and interface constrains.
Nutrient availability mediates organic carbon turnover in paddy soils through regulating microbial metabolism
Nutrient availability significantly influences soil microbial communities and the soil organic carbon (SOC) cycle. Yet, the precise response of microbial metabolism, particularly carbon use efficiency (CUE), to varying nutrient levels, and the subsequent impact on microbial respiration in paddy soils, remains a key area of investigation. In this study, we utilized six paddy soils collected across a latitudinal gradient from Northeast to Southeast China to examine the effects of nutrient availability on CUE, employing the 18O water labeling approach. We also assessed associated microbial metabolic parameters, including growth, biomass, turnover rate, and extracellular enzyme activity, under different nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK) fertilization regimes. Our results revealed that the highest NPK amendment rate (NPKH) generally led to the greatest microbial growth and biomass, coupled with the slowest microbial biomass turnover rates, especially in the southeastern paddy soils. This enhanced growth and biomass accumulation likely resulted from increased CUE following the alleviation of C and nutrient limitations through fertilization. Furthermore, we observed that reducing these limitations led to decreased extracellular enzyme activity and a corresponding reduction in microbial respiration. This suggests a critical balance between microbial investment in anabolic processes (biomass production) and catabolic processes (decomposition of soil organic matter) in determining CO2 loss from paddy soils. Overall, our findings indicate that soil microorganisms exhibiting higher CUE, faster growth, larger biomass, but lower CO2, turnover and extracellular enzyme activity contribute to reduced SOC mineralization and, consequently, limited release. These results suggest that strategic nutrient management in paddy soils has the potential to mitigate C emissions by effectively regulating key aspects of microbial metabolism, specifically by promoting a shift towards biomass production over decomposition
Fu Describing About the Author Himself: A Focus on Ban Gu "You tong fu"
From Later Han dynasty onwards, the number of fu describing about the author himself has increased. There are several possible reasons for this, but the most important reason is probably that there was no other genre through which one could express oneself except for fu in this period. For instance, the fiveword poetry was still in the middle way of establishing its own style at that moment. Moreover, in Former Han, there were few opportunities for authors to talk about themselves in detail in fu, because the main readers were emperors and kings of countries. In Later Han, the readers had become more diverse. That is probably the reason why more fu began to mention about the authors themselves in this period. Ban Gu (32-92), who is a representative scholar of Later Han and also a man of letters, expressed his aim by writing "You tong fu". Its main content is that though one's encounter with a disaster or felicity is not always derived from our behavior, we have to have a strong will and take action to overcome disasters. This idea is supported by Ban Gu's experiences of not attaining his aim. Such experiences are common in Chinese authors. One of the earliest examples is Chu Ci. Also, Chu Ci is the one of the origins of fu. It is surprising that authors expressed things about themselves mostly in fu describing journeys. It may be easier to understand this tendency if we think they substituted the heaven wander in Chu Ci with a ground journey. Chu Ci was a model for authors to express their aim which could not come true, even if the journey on the ground and the wander in heaven are different

Online Iterative Adaptive Dynamic Programming Approach for Solving the Zero-Sum Game for Nonlinear Continuous-Time Systems with Partially Unknown Dynamics
The current study presents an online iterative adaptive dynamic programming approach to resolve the zero-sum game (ZSG) for nonlinear continuous-time (CT) systems containing a partially unknown dynamic. The Hamilton-Jacobian-Issacs (HJI) equation is solved along the state trajectory according to the value function approximation and the policy improvement online. Relaxed dynamic programming is utilized to ensure the algorithm’s convergence. Model and costate networks were established to conduct the method. Computational simulations are performed to present the efficiency of the algorithm.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Control & Simulatio
