    Disclosed herein is a coraless AC induction motor. The motor comprises a cup type coreless rotor. A rotating shaft is combined wilh the cup type coreless rotor. An induction rod is inserted into the cup type coreless rotor to guide a magnetic flux from the stator effectively. A stator is positioned around the ccreless rotor. The cup type coreless rotor comprises a squirrel cage-shaped conduction cylinder and composite material or polymer resin. The squirrel cage-shaped conduction cylinder is made of material having high electric conductivity, such as aluminum or copper, and has plurality of slots along the axis of the squirrel cage-shaped conduction cylinder. The composite material or polymer resin fills the slots of the squirrel cage-shaped conduction cylinder to make up for the low stiffness of the squirrel cage-shaped conduction cylinder

    Fe/Ge catalyzed carbon nanotube growth on HfO<sub>2</sub> for nano-sensor applications

    A carbon nanotube (CNT) growth process on HfO2 is reported for the first time for application in nano-sensors. The process uses a combination of Ge nanoparticles and ferric nitrate dispersion and achieves an increase in CNT density from 0.15 to 6.2 μm length/ μm2 compared with the use of ferric nitrate dispersion alone. The growth process is validated by the fabrication of back-gate CNT field-effect transistors (CNTFETs) using Al source/drain (S/D) contacts and a H2 anneal at 400 degrees C. The transistors exhibit p-FET behavior with an Ion/Ioff ratio of 105 and a steep sub-threshold slope of 130 mV/dec. These results are rather surprising, as earlier research in the literature on CNTFETs with Al S/D electrodes showed n-FET behavior. The p-FET behavior is shown to be due to the H2 anneal, which we ascribe to the smaller electron affinity of hydrogenised CNTs. Measurements of the temperature dependence of the drain current show low Schottky barrier height Al S/D contacts after a H2 anneal, which tends to confirm this explanation

    Composition dependence of the physical and acousto-optic properties of transparent Ge–As–S chalcogenide glasses

    Three groups of Ge–As–S glasses with compositions of (I) GexAs40−xS60 (x = 25, 30, 35 at.%), (II) GexAs10S90−x (x = 25, 30, 35 at.%) and (III) Ge30AsxS70−x (x = 5, 10, 15 at.%) were studied to understand the role of glass composition in determining physical and acousto-optic properties. For each group of glasses, the glass transition temperature (Tg), micro-hardness (Hv), elastic modulus and acoustic velocity increased with the addition of Ge, and the elements that determine the magnitude of performance variation are Ge > As > S. All glass samples had optical transmission higher than 54% at 633 nm, and the level of sulfur content determined the value of the optical bandgap (Eg). The glass with the tightest network structure realized the lowest acoustic attenuation (α) of 1.49 dB/cm at 25 MHz ultrasonic frequency. Furthermore, the maximum refractive index (n = 2.482) in Ge30As15S55 glass contributed to the maximum acousto-optic figure of merit (M2) of 209.78 × 10−18 s3/g at 633 nm, which is close to 130 times greater than that of fused quart
