Axel Honneth e i presupposti della reificazione
Matteo Gargani
Abstract
:
The aim of this paper is to deal with some aspects of Axel Honneth’s reading
of reification faced in his 2005
Verdinglichung. Eine Anerkennungstheoretische Studie
. To
this purpose, I critically analyse the interpretation of Marx by Lukács as it is expressed in
Reification and the Consciousness of the Proletariat
. Secondly, I claim that Lukács’ fetishism
analysis is grounded in a significant misunderstanding of the core issue of Marx’s Critique
of political economy. Furthermore, I suggest that Honneth’s reification concept uncriti-
cally accepts, to some extent, the main theses on Marx as they are outlined in Lukács’ text.
I conclude by arguing that the Marxian heritage advocated by Honneth is methodologi-
cally more deeply linked to Lukács’
History and Class Consciousness
than to Marx’s

La teoria del materialismo storico di Antonio Labriola
ANTONIO LABRIOLA’S THEORY OF HISTORICAL MATERIALISM. The author examines
Antonio Labriola’s interpretation of historical materialism in the Saggi intorno alla
concezione materialistica della storia (Essays on the Materialistic Conception of History). The author identifies the key element to grasp the relevance of Labriola’s reading of Marxism in the concept of the theory developed in the Saggi. After reviewing the main interpretations of the Saggi, the author focuses on the relationship between history and theory showing up in Labriola’s reading. Firstly, the sense of the theory as an expression of the self-consciousness of a real process is examined by the author in connection with the
meaning of dialectics as a self-criticism of historical development. Secondly, the author deals with the method of historical materialism and its impact on the historiographical research. Finally, the author discusses the link between the genesis of historical materialism and its scientific validity, focusing on the problems of class consciousness and ideology for this purpose
Nicolai Hartmann e Alexius Meinong su apriorità e causalità. Note sul carteggio
_Nicolai Hartmann and Alexius Meinong on Apriority and Causality. Notes on the Correspondence_
The article offers a critical reading of the nine letters composing the correspondence exchanged by Alexius Meinong (1853-1920) and Nicolai Hartmann (1882-1950) in 1915 and 1918-1920. The author explores the main contents of the correspondence, through a chronological-thematic analysis. The letters of 1915 are eminently dedicated to a discussion of the gnoseology-ontology relationship. Here, the author focuses (1.1) on the relationship between reality and knowledge and (1.2) on that between a priori and cognitive principles. The analysis (2) of the 1918-1920 correspondence concludes the article, engaging in the theme of the law of causality. Different in the philosophical background and argumentative style, the late Meinong and the young Hartmann find a field of dialogue that appears not lacking in consequences on the philosophical evolution of the latter
Lukács 1933-1942. L’irrazionalismo nell’età del fascismo
"Lukács 1933-1942. Irrationalism in the Age of Fascim". This essay reconstructs the philosophical and historiographical premises to Georg Lukács’ research on irrationalism conducted during the period of Nazi rule in Germany. To this end, the Author focuses chiefly on two posthumous works: How Did Fascist Philosophy Arise in Germany? (1933) and How Did Germany Become the Centre of reactionary Ideology? (1941-1942). After a brief historical contextualization, the Author illustrates the main purpose of these texts: to free German philosophy and culture between the XIX and XX century from those irrationalistic elements asserted and nourished by Fascist philosophy. He then analyzes Lukács’ concept of reason in its three fundamental aspects, namely the methodological link with Marx’s historical image of the political development of Europe during the XIX century, the theoretical debt to Hegel’s critique of immediacy and the connection with some ethical points already discussed during the Goethezeit
Scepsi e mito in Remo Cantoni
Skepticism and Myth in Remo Cantoni. The author examines three essays by Remo Cantoni (1914-1978), written in the 1940s, which focus on the relationship between skepticism and myth. The author argues that, for Cantoni, skepticism and myth represent two fundamental polarities of thought. The hypothesis that reason might ultimately overcome myth is, according to Cantoni, erroneous. Instead, the author emphasizes that Cantoni considers a phenomenology of myth essential for understanding it as a necessary dimension in the life of the spirit.According to the author, Cantoni is a philosopher who seeks to interpret the crisis of values and science, striving to remain within a rationalistic framework
Le forme dello spirito nell’ontologia critica di Nicolai Hartmann. Per una lettura critico-genetica de Il problema dell’essere spirituale
The Spiritual Forms in Nicolai Hartmann’s critical ontology. For a critical-genetic interpretation of The Problem of Spiritual Being. The Author critically discusses the theoretical assumptions underlying Nicolai Hartmann’s 1933 The Problem of Spiritual Being. The Author deals with the main categorial problems involved in the Hartmannian discussion about the spiritual being, also looking at his previous production. In particular, the Author analyzes the position of the ontic level of spiritual being with respect to the previous three real ontic levels (inorganic, organic, psychological) and the mutual relationship between the three fundamental forms of spiritual being identified by Hartmann (personal, objective, objectified). The Author believes that the 1933 volume has been poorly considered in its direct links with the overall project of critical ontology
Il punto di vista di Wilhelm Windelband. Forschungsgrundlagen e Präludien
WILHELM WINDELBAND’S STANDPOINT: FORSCHUNGSGRUNDLAGEN AND PRÄLUDIEN. The author discusses two recent important books on Wilhelm Windelband (1848-1915). Firstly, the author evaluates "Forschungsgrundlagen" Wilhelm Windelband, which provides essential primarily unpublished documents regarding the philosopher’s biography, along with an extensive selection of his correspondence. Secondly, the author presents a richly edited new edition of Windelband’s main work, the "Präludien", which has not been available in the German publishing world for a century. The resulting picture stimulates a comprehensive philosophical reappraisal of the founder of the Baden School from both a historiographical and a theoretical perspective
Intuizione e conoscenza in Nicolai Hartmann (1911-1926). Sulle premesse dell'ontologia critica
Intuition and Knowledge in Nicolai Hartmann (1911-1926). On the Premises of Critical Ontology. The author considers Nicolai Hartmann’s main points on the relationship between intuition and knowledge in his early and middle works (1911-1926). The author first shows how Hartmann’s critical ontology emerged as a reaction to the approach of the logical idealism of
the Marburg School, against which Hartmann defends the existence of an irrational dimension of knowledge that legitimizes a minimum of metaphysics even in the gnoseological sphere. The author then focuses on the way in which Hartmann interprets the relationship between intuition and givenness, apriority, status of a priori principles, and understanding. Hartmann
argues that intuition is not exclusively the same as empirical intuition, and that the problem of knowledge should no longer be considered in terms of the distinction between sensibility and understanding, but through the difference between a priori and a posteriori knowledge
Antonio Labriola nella crisi del marxismo
Antonio Labriola in the crisis of Marxism. The article deals with the relationship between Marxism and science in Antonio Labriola’s philosophy in the years1898-1899. In the first part, the Author looks at the content of the Postscript to Discorrendo di socialismo e di filosofia and critically analyzes Labriola’s objections to some of the central theses defended by Benedetto Croce on the theory of value and the economics of Karl Marx. In the second part, two important writings by Labriola linked to the incipient debate on revisionism are examined: Polemiche sul socialismo and Sulla crisi del marxismo. In conclusion, the Author identifies in a specific conception of theory defended by Labriola the common trait between these two apparently distinct areas of inquiry
Antonio Labriola, il comunismo critico e la lezione delle cose
The author addresses some central aspects of Antonio Labriola’s Marxist thought moving from Un marxismo «alquanto aristocratico». Studi su Antonio Labriola (2023) by Alberto Burgio and La rivoluzione come problema pedagogico (2022) by Massimo Gabella. The topics of materialistic dialectics and theoretical autonomy of Marxism are also critically reconsidered in the context of Labriola’s political theory
