Dr. Sharon Starr Named New Dean for the Gardner-Webb School of Nursing
Gardner-Webb University is thrilled to announce that Dr. Sharon Starr has been appointed as the new dean of the School of Nursing and officially began her duties on July 1. The Gardner-Webb University community lost two of its own this week—Freshman Student-Athlete Rollins Tita and Assistant Professor of Nursing Dr. Sharon Creed-Hall. We pause to remember and celebrate their lives and contributions to the campus family.
On Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 4:30 p.m., a brief Service of Prayer and Remembrance for Tita and Creed- Hall will take place on the lawn beside the Tucker Student Center (between the Carillon/Bell Tower and the Mauney parking lot). Gardner-Webb President William Downs recently announced the appointment of Dr. Sharon Webb as the new Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR). A professor in the School of Psychological Science and Counselor Education, Webb succeeds Dr. Chris Davis, who has served since 2009. Officials at Gardner-Webb University are thrilled to announce that Dr. Nicole Waters has been appointed as the new dean of the Hunt School of Nursing. Officials at Gardner-Webb celebrated with over 500 graduates at the University’s formal Commencement on Thursday, May 4, at 7 p.m. Former N.C. Secretary of Commerce Sharon Decker was the guest speaker for the ceremony held in Spangler Stadium. N.C. Governor McCrory Appoints GWU’s Decker & Alexander to Important State Posts
Governor-Elect Pat McCrory has named the final members of the North Carolina cabinet, and Gardner-Webb University is represented by two of the appointees. During a press conference on Thursday, McCrory announced that he would appoint Sharon Allred Decker, a former Duke Energy vice president and a student of the Gardner-Webb University School of Divinity, as Secretary of the Department of Commerce.
