Run/Walk Honors Late Gardner-Webb Athletics Administrator Mike Roebuck
Hundreds of runners and walkers traveled a mile around Gardner-Webb University on April 30 to honor Mike Roebuck, an avid runner and former GWU athletics administrator who passed away earlier this year. The first “A Mile for Mike” honored Roebuck, who served Gardner-Webb for 20 years, first as director of financial aid and then as assistant athletics director for academic services. Gardner-Webb Announces New Vice President for Finance and Administration
Officials at Gardner-Webb have named a new vice president for Finance and Administration—Mike Whiteman. He has 15 years of experience in higher education and his background includes work in public accounting, insurance and non-profit industries. He begins his duties at the University on July 24 and will report directly to GWU President Dr. William M. High School Senior Receives Gardner-Webb University’s Top Scholarship
A Clayton, N.C., high school student has been awarded a four-year, comprehensive scholarship to attend Gardner-Webb University, a Division I liberal arts Christian institution located in the foothills of the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains. 18-year-old Michael “Mike” McCray, son of Michael and Marci McCray of Clayton, N.C., learned of the Ignite Excellence Comprehensive Scholarship award during a surprise ceremony at the school on March 2. Gardner-Webb VP for Finance and Administration Retires After Nearly 30 years of Service
Mike Hardin, who has nearly 30 years of service to Gardner-Webb University, is retiring on Nov. 30, 2020, as vice president for Finance and Administration. Gardner-Webb, The Magazine, previously titled The Webb Magazine, focuses on alumni news and campus events from Gardner-Webb College; now Gardner-Webb University. This issue includes several articles about awards and accolades given to students, staff, and Gardner-Webb programs. There is a short article announcing the addition of the Education Hall of Fame. Gardner-Webb\u27s online degrees and classes are praised. Many students are highlighted for their outreach in local and international communities, and several alumni are mentioned for their achievements and contributions to the school and community. Dr. Tom Meaders, a professor at Gardner-Webb is interviewed about his involvement in the Apollo 13 rescue mission. There is a section in the magazine dedicated to honoring those who have passed that impacted Gardner-Webb, and this issue honors several people including Mike Roebuck, Jim Wiles, Hoyt Bailey,Charles Tichenor, and John Brock. This issue won the Collegiate Advertising Awards (CAA) program Gold Award in the category of single magazine publication, an achievement reached by only three other universities in the nation. This marks the second consecutive year Gardner-Webb has won this award for creativity, layout and design, functionality, message effectiveness, production quality, and overall appeal. GWU earned the highest marks for single magazine publication among institutions with 2,000 to 5,000 students. This issue was the Hermes Creative Awards Platinum Winner for print publications: magazine category. Trombonist Mike Kris will be in concert on Jan. 18 at Gardner-Webb University as part of the Distinguished Artist Series. Co-sponsored by the Alfred and Shirley Wampler Caudill Fund, the concert will be at 8 p.m. in Dover Chapel.
