    Four Gardner-Webb students embraced the call of evangelism this summer as they worked with a group of Christian camps whose mission is to share Christ with children from various backgrounds and traditions. Mark Baker, Amy Brown, Chelsea Hearne and Zeke Stephenson were part of Passport Missions and their camps for children and youth from third through 12th grade. Founded in 1993, Passport, Inc.     New and returning members of the Gardner-Webb University Honors Student Association recently participated in a GWU 18-year tradition. Faculty sponsor Dr. Tom Jones, 27 GWU students and eight guests traveled to West Jefferson, North Carolina, to join New River Conservancy’s cleanup event, Mud, Sweat, and Volunteers.     As a child, Chelsea Sexton, ’23, went through a couple of oral surgeries and wore braces for five years. During that time, the Gardner-Webb University student was cared for by a compassionate dentist, oral surgeon and orthodontist. “They always provided great care and a great environment for me,” affirmed Sexton, a native of Goode, Va. “Since eighth grade, I have known that I wanted to become a dentist.     Chelsea Curtis, a 2023 graduate of the Master of Arts in English program at Gardner-Webb University, received recognition from the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and the Virginia Association of Teachers of English (VATE). Described as a passionate teacher who uses project-based learning to engage her students, Curtis was selected by both organizations as a 2023 High School Teacher of Excellence honoree.     Student Social Media Campaign Brings NEEDTOBREATHE to Gardner-Webb University

    After a seven-month process, a group of Gardner-Webb students will see their hard work pay off on April 28 when Atlantic Records recording artists NEEDTOBREATHE perform in the Paul Porter Arena at 8 p.m. In the fall of 2011, a group of more than 40 students, led by senior Jessica Greer, started a campaign to persuade NEEDTOBREATHE to perform at Gardner-Webb University.
