No full textNel 1681 il compositore veneziano Carlo Grossi pubblicò una raccolta di cantate di vario argomento dal titolo Il Divertimento dei Grandi che comprendeva anche una cantata con testo in ebraico dal titolo Akhai vere’ai. Diversamente rispetto ad altre composizioni su argomento ebraico scritte da compositori cristiani, la cantata di Grossi era destinata in maniera specifica a ebrei per essere eseguita durante una importante festa ebraica, Hosha’na Rabbah, l’unico esempio di musica scritta da un cristiano per una occasione religiosa ebraica. Il presente saggio indaga l’importante contesto storico-culturale in cui ciò avvenne, con l’intento di rispondere a questa e ad altre domande correlate, per esempio come Grossi possa aver concepito e fatto eseguire una composizione di questo tipo sopravvissuta fino ai giorni nostri.In the year 1681, the Venetian composer Carlo Grossi published a collection of cantatas on different topics under the title I Divertimenti dei Grandi, which included also a cantata with the text in Hebrew, Akhai vere’ai. Differently from other works with any Jewish connotation written by Christian composers, Grossi’s cantata was designed specifically for a Jewish public to be performed during an important Jewish feast, Hosha’na Rabbah, a unique example of music written by a Christian for the Jewish religious service. The present essay explores the relevant historical and cultural context with a view to answer this and many other related questions, for example, how Grossi may have conceived and performed such a work, why there is only one composition of this kind, which survived to our days, and alike
