No full textGheorghe Neaga’s instrumental chamber music constitutes a rich repertoire with representative works for native academic music. The more so, since from the perspective of composition art, the author tended to the excellence of each element of musical expressiveness. As evidence of this can be considered his instrumental chamber works, including sonatas, suites for various instrumental configurations and instrumental ensembles, and not least, the infinite string of instrumental miniatures. Returning to the musical expressiveness, it is necessary to emphasize the fact that in Gheorghe Neaga’s instrumental chamber music is evident, in a different measure for each work, a polyphonic treatment which can be considered typical of the author. That is why the present article aims to present some principles and techniques used by the composer in his own manner in some of his creations offered as examples
THE PROBLEM OF FORM IN GHEORGHE NEAGA’S STRING QUARTET NO.3
No full textThis article focuses on a form analysis of one of Gheorghe Neaga’s last works. With a bipartite cyclical structure, String Quartet No.3 fits perfectly into the category of demonstrating opuses for removing from the foreground of the classical quadrature specific to the quartet genre and replacing its importance with various other means of high artistic thinking and conceptualization of music. Thus, focusing on a modal language, the author also avoids the usual patterns for the inner forms of the parts of a quartet. In addition, Gheorghe Neaga doesn’t adapt the content to stunning developments, but gives his preference for heterophony, and the modal relations are integrated in the chromatic totality, so that the sound universe of the work gets a significant complexity
GHEORGHE CUCU – THE COMPOSER'S CREATIONS IN MANUSCRIPT
No full textIn 1970, I.B.M.B.O.R. (The Missionary Biblical Institute of the Romanian Orthodox Church) published “Hymns of the Divine Liturgy arranged for mixed chorus”. This work contains only 50 hymns – just a small section of the composer’s creation. Nicolae Lungu, the author of the foreword on this edition, mentioned: “many hymns were issued in booklets, handbooks and musical periodicals; other hymns were preserved in manuscript, waiting to be published” (Gheorghe Cucu, Cântările Sfintei Liturghii..., (Holy Liturgy Songs...), Bucharest, 1970, p. IV). In this study we refer to the manuscripts kept in the Romanian Academy Library. Albeit much of Cucu’s musical scores were published and were shared by most of the Romanian and Diaspora choirs, there still remains an unexplored part of Cucu’s creation that completes the image of his personality as composer, conductor and professor
