Validation of the Omni-cycle scale of perceived exertion in the elderly
This study examined the concurrent and construct validity of the OMNI-Cycle Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE) Scale, using elderly men and women. Seventy-six participants performed a load-incremented cycle-ergometer exercise test. Concurrent validity was determined by correlating OMNI-RPE responses with oxygen uptake, relative peak oxygen uptake, pulmonary ventilation, heart rate, respiratory rate, and respiratory-exchange ratio during a load-incremented cycle-ergometer protocol. Construct validity was established by correlating RPE derived from the OMNI-Cycle Scale with RPE from the Borg (6–20) Scale. Multilevel, mixed linear-regression models indicated that OMNI-RPE distributed as a significant (p < .05) positive linear function (r = .81–.92) for all physiological measures. OMNI-RPE was positively (p < .01) and linearly related to Borg-RPE in elderly men (r = .97) and women (r = .96). This study demonstrates both concurrent and construct validity of the OMNI-Cycle RPE Scale. These findings support the use of this scaling metric with elderly men and women to estimate RPE during cycle-ergometer exercise
Analysis of unspliced (FL) and singly spliced mRNAs in wt and mutant HIV-1 particles
<p><b>Copyright information:</b></p><p>Taken from "HIV controls the selective packaging of genomic, spliced viral and cellular RNAs into virions through different mechanisms"</p><p></p><p>Nucleic Acids Research 2007;35(8):2695-2704.</p><p>Published online 10 Apr 2007</p><p>PMCID:PMC1885669.</p><p>© 2007 The Author(s)</p> Singly spliced () and FL () RNAs were detected in RNA samples extracted from wt (lanes 1 and 4), ΔSL1SL3 (lanes 2 and 5) and mock (lanes 3 and 6) transfected cells and in corresponding viral particles (lanes 4–6) using standard RT-PCR. As a control, amplification was also performed using pNL4.3 plasmid as a template (lane 8). Bands corresponding to vif-2, vpr-3 and env-1 mRNAs are indicated by arrows. In the mutant virus, all amplicons were shortened by 34 nt, due to the SL1 deletion. This result is representative of at least three independent experiments
Age and physiological, perceptual, and affective responses during walking at a self-selected pace
The aim of this study was to examine physiological, perceptual, and affective responses during self-paced walking for three age groups. 66 adult women were assigned into three groups by age: 20–25 yr. (n = 22), 30–35 yr. (n = 22), and 40–45 yr. (n = 22). Each participant completed a maximal exercise test and a 20-min. bout of walking at a self-selected pace. The preferred walking speed was similar for all age groups, whereas physiological responses relative to maximal and ventilatory threshold values were greater in the 40–45 yr. group than the other two groups. Nevertheless, perceptual and affective responses were similar for all age groups. These findings suggest that physiological responses, but not perceptual and affective responses, of sedentary women are associated with age during walking at a self-selected pace
Best Price Digital Lenses, Incorporated: A small-scale supplier to a large-scale industry
Founded in 2013 by Dr. Gene Terrezza as a way to provide affordable eyeglasses for his patients from his four optical offices in Pensacola, Fl, Best Price Digital Lens, Inc. became an alternative to big business eyeglass manufacturing companies. Dr. Terrezza began his manufacturing in an 1,100 square foot room in one of his offices in Pensacola with the help of a colleague, Rolando Domingo, who would become the lab manager.
Dr. Terrezza and Rolando saw great returns when he began manufacturing lenses for his patients and continued to see more returns when he gained more accounts from his colleagues in the area of Pensacola. However, he wanted his business to continue to grow and he was finding it extremely difficult to attain this growth.Conference Pape
Music production in the FL Studio software in leisure activities
Much of today's teenage generation identifies with rap music. Each rap is accompanied by a beat, which is usually created in music software called a DAW. FL Studio is one of these DAWs. The aim of this thesis is to create a methodology for teaching FL Studio in hobby groups or ZUŠ. Another aim is to verify whether continuous work with FL Studio develops the student's musicality similarly to playing instrument or singing. The thesis also explores the impact of learning to work with FL Studio on learner wellbeing. Most recently, this thesis investigates the effect of the use of DAWs in primary school music education on pupils' motivation. The method of research in the thesis is case studies, the method of data collection is observation and interviews with students. The author of the paper concluded that continuous work with FL Studio really develops the pupil's musicality, it can even be a way for pupils with reduced motor skills but musical talent. The impact on pupils' wellbeing was positive for all participants observed. In music education classes, where the author applied the work with FL Studio, there was the expected revival of teaching and two pupils subsequently enrolled in the electronic music club. Finally, the author of the thesis argues that teaching music production could be one of the avenues..
Diaries, observations and FL teachers' creativity
This paper is the product of long studies on the specific character of FL teachers’ work.
It comprises the latest achievements of language teaching methodology. The author
considers it to be especially important since her intention is to combine such procedures
as diary writing and lesson observations into one model that concentrates on
FL teachers’ creativity. The first level of this model is designed for student teachers.
Later, participant observations and self observations are expected to contribute to
the development of FL teacher’s autonomy. Autonomous teachers will most probably
produce autonomous learners

Are SLA Research Reports of Value for FL Teachers? On the Need for Researcher-Teacher Collaboration
Are SLA Research Reports of Value for FL Teachers? On the Need for Researcher-Teacher CollaborationThe paper discusses the issue of second language acquisition SLA research reports andthe application of their findings in practice. On the basis of interviews with researchers and practitioners as well as the author’s own experience, the reasons for the gap between theory and practice are explained. Some solutions are also offered to bridge the gap, such as teachers becoming researchers or collaboration between SLA researchers and practitioners. Finally, the author attempts to answer the question posed in the title of the paper. Since SLA research reports are not appreciated by many foreign language FL teachers, some solutions are proposed, such as eliminating research jargon, complex statistics and theoretical frameworks and introducing topics of relevance to FL teachers. The author also advocates the publication of simplified abridged versions of research reports in a special journal for FL teachers and wider dissemination of research findings among practitioners at various conferences and workshops. Are SLA Research Reports of Value for FL Teachers?
