No full textEdizione definitiva degli scavi archeologici nei bagni romani di Bakchias (Fayyum, Egitto) nell'ambito dell'evoluzione urbanistica dell'abitato di epoca romana. Tutti i capitoli sono introdotti da abstract in inglese e tutte le didascalie sono tradotte anche in inglese.The baths of Bakchias were known from a papyrus (BGU I 181) dating to the reign of Nero in 57 A.D. During the archaeological missions of 2007-2008, we were able to identify the actual structural ramains of the baths (BSO 313). The baths were mainly built from fired bricks, but it is worth noting that there were also some structures built from dried bricks. The baths of Bakchias were built during the reign of Augustus and a second phase of building has been found, which has been dated to the reign of Hadrian. During this time, the baths were profundly changed. Subsequently, the baths were used and, finally, abandoned during the Late Roman Period and the first Islamic Period
Groma Documenting Archaeology
No full textGroma is an open access peer-reviewed e-journal of the Department of History and Cultures (DISCI) of the University of Bologna focusing on the different methodologies applied to archaeology.
Particular attention is paid to Mediterranean archaeology and to specific methodological aspects such as archaeological documentation and landscape archaeology.The project Groma was started in 2007 as a means of enhancing the experimental activities of the University of Bologna's Laboratories, the learning structures of the University in which academic topics are faced with a methodological and practical approach. The use of the name of Groma, a Roman tool for land surveying, is intended to be a reference to both antiquity and technology.
The first publications were two books, Groma 1 and Groma 2, dedicated to Archaeology in Piceno, Dalmatia and Epirus and to the Non-invasive methodologies and diagnostics applied to archaeology. The focus of these previous volumes and the main research used in them were methodological themes in relation to the Mediterranean basin and mostly the Adriatic areas.
The new open access peer-reviewed e-journal will further expand the range of the contributions to a wider methodological scope
