AbstractEast Java Province consist of 446 islands, however only 53 islands are inhabited. One of them is Gili Timur Island which located in Java Sea, approximately 1.5 nautical miles from Bawean Island. This island has become a tourist destination in recent years due to its sandy beaches, clear water and stunning underwater view. This research is conducted to provide baseline information of the biophysical condition and to formulate strategies towards sustainable management of the island. High resolution satellite imagery and GIS were used to map the characteristic of the island and its surrounding water environment. Evaluation of the current biophysical state was then used to determine the influence of existing condition to the management strategies using SWOT and AHP methods. The result showed that Gili Timur island has several potential marine resources in form of good quality of coral reef ecosystems, marine aquaculture (mariculture) and fishing. On the other hand, the island is vulnerable to anthropogenic disaster due to destructive fishing. Sustainable management of Gili Timur Island can be achieved by combining ecotourism and modification of fishing method. Therefore, community empowerment trough education, provision of live supporting facilities and financial support from the government is essential to maintain environmental protection and enhance prospects for sustainable management of the island

Azoriella, a new name for Azoria López-González and Gili, 2001 (Octocorallia: Alcyonacea: Clavulariidae) preoccupied by Azoria Mulsant, 1850 (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)

1 pageLópez‐González and Gili (Citation2001) erected the genus Azoria for a stoloniferous octocoral type species, Azoria bayeri, found in shallow waters of Terceira (Azores Archipelago). Recently, Mr Christian Kammerer (University of Chicago) and Dr Helmut Fürsch (Univerität Passau, Germany) notified us that this genus name was preoccupied (Mulsant, Citation1850) by the genus of beetles Azoria Mulsant, Citation1850, of the family Coccinellidae, type species Azoria subviolacea Mulsant, Citation1850. According to Article 60 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (Citation1999), we propose to replace the preoccupied Azoria López‐González and Gili, Citation2001, by the name Azoriella, nomen novum. As Azoriella bayeri (López‐González and Gili, Citation2001) comb. nov. was recently described, we do not consider it necessary to duplicate here descriptions or illustrations of this stoloniferous octocoral speciesFinancial support was provided by projects BIOHAB (EVK3-1999-00072) of the European Union and ZOOTRANSFER (REN2001-1693/MAR) of the Spanish CICYT.

Recent developments in deca-nanometer vertical MOSFETs

We report simulations and experimental work relating to innovations in the area of ultra short channel vertical transistors. The use of dielectric pockets can mitigate short channel effects of charge sharing and bulk punch-through; thickened oxide regions can minimize parasitic overlap capacitance in source and drain; a narrow band gap, SiGe source can reduce considerably the gain of the parasitic bipolar transistor which is particularly severe in vertical MOSFETs. The work is put into the context of the ITRS roadmap and it is demonstrated that vertical transistors can provide high performance at relaxed lithographic constraints
