Striping Removal in MOS-B Data
MOS-B data corrected by standard calibration procedures are affected by "striping" in most channels. Striping arises because of the imperfect calibration of the detector characteristics. In this paper, we present a method for removing striping, in which the euqualization curves are estimated by explointing a data base of carefully selected homogeneous targets. We present the results obtained on sea target images. Such a case study is of great interest because it is related to ocean color applications, for which the MOS-B sensor was especially designed. We also estimate the reduction of striping noise in the equalized image by means of two appropriate indexes of quality

Spray Conditioning for the Preparation of Spray Dried Submicron Particles
[EN] Particle size reduction down to the submicron range (0.1-1 µm) is an effective option to increase the bioavailability
of low water soluble active pharmaceutical ingredients. According to the Nernst-Brunner equation, the preparation
of submicron sized particles increases the specific surface area, thus increases the dissolution rate. Conventional
spray drying devices for submicron particles show certain limitations. The main challenge is the preparation of
small and uniform droplets during the atomisation step. In this work, fine droplets were generated combining a
nozzle with a droplet separator. Therefore, the aerosol is generated with a pneumatic nozzle and is sprayed into a
cyclone droplet separator. Depending on the characteristics of the cyclone, droplets larger than the cut-off-size
were separated and returned into the liquid feed. The conditioned aerosol at the top of the cyclone separator can
then be introduced into the drying chamber. With this concept the usable part is separated, thus no classification
process after drying is necessary. The investigations show that the dependencies during atomisation of the
droplets size on the liquid-to-gas mass flow ratio µm and the liquid properties (e.g. viscosity) do not apply to the
separation step. The conditioned aerosol only depends on the separation characteristics of the cyclone droplet
separator. However, the amount of droplets separated is determined by the atomisation step. Hence, the amount
of droplets smaller than the cut-off-size can be increased by decreasing the droplet size of the primary aerosol.
This is realised by secondary droplet fragmentation. An impact surface causes breakup of the droplets of the
primary aerosol before separation. The investigations show an increased amount of droplets <2µm.Gorny, R.; Schaldach, G.; Walzel, P.; Thommes, M. (2017). Downregulation of the Na(+)-creatine cotransporter in failing human myocardium and in experimental heart failure.
BACKGROUND:The failing myocardium is characterized by depletion of phosphocreatine and of total creatine content. We hypothesized that this is due to loss of creatine transporter protein. METHODS AND RESULTS:Creatine transporter protein was quantified in nonfailing and failing human myocardium (explanted hearts with dilated cardiomyopathy [DCM; n=8] and healthy donor hearts [n=8]) as well as in experimental heart failure (residual intact left ventricular tissue, rats 2 months after left anterior descending coronary artery ligation [MI; n=8] or sham operation [sham; n=6]) by Western blotting. Total creatine content was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography. Donor and DCM hearts had total creatine contents of 136.4+/-6.1 and 68.7+/-4.6 nmol/mg protein, respectively (*P<0.05); creatine transporter protein was 25.4+/-2.2 optical density units in donor and 17.7+/-2.5 in DCM (*P<0.05). Total creatine was 87.5+/-4.2 nmol/mg protein in sham and 65.7+/-4.2 in MI rats (*P<0.05); creatine transporter protein was 139.0+/-8.7 optical density units in sham and 82.1+/-4.0 in MI (*P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS:Both in human and in experimental heart failure, creatine transporter protein content is reduced. This mechanism may contribute to the depletion of creatine compounds and thus to the reduced energy reserve in failing myocardium. This finding may have therapeutic implications, suggesting a search for treatment strategies targeted toward creatine transport
Interconnecting Product and Process Information to Enable Personalized Production
AbstractManufacturing paradigms are currently shifting from mass production towards mass customization and personalized products. Customers demand individual, high quality products that are tailored to their needs at a low cost and reasonable delivery times. The shoe and fashion industry is one example. Currently, mass customizing textile products is possible but comes with long delivery times due to fragmented supply chains that are distributed all over the world. Therefore, companies are under the pressure to reduce their time to market and to respond to the dynamic requirements regarding lot sizes, lead times, and cost. Moreover, companies will shift to regional production to be closer to the customer to flexibly react to the market and reduce delivery times. This paper presents an approach to model personalized products and interconnect this knowledge with information about the manufacturing system and production processes. The approach allows using product information to assist the worker during the manufacturing process to enable quickly switching between different products. Connecting the shop floor with the supervisory control facilitates adapting to new products. The approach is evaluated using an experimental setup. Results and future research directions are illustrated here
