Naturalistic Fallacy and Natural Law. Josef Fuchs᾽ Critique of the Thomistic Theory of Natural Law
In the paper the author analyzes the critique of the Thomistic theory of natural law put forward by a German theologian Josef Fuchs. The question Fuchs seeks to answer can be formulated as follows: ᾿In what sense nature can be called the basis of morality?᾽ Fuchs distinguishes three possible meanings of the term „nature”:1) biological structure of man,2) the specific essence of a given human act (e.g. a sexual act),3) personal nature of man defined by his freedom and rationality.According to Fuchs, the Thomistic theory of natural law contains, at least in some of its modes of argumentation, an error called − after G. E. Moore − naturalistic fallacy. It consists in deducing normative conclusions from descriptive premises. Fuchs distinguishes three forms of this error. In the first form, biological laws are taken for moral norms. In the second, normative conclusions are inferred from the description of the specific essence of a given act. The third form of the same error can be called „theological fallacy”: it consists in not distinguishing between God᾽s creative will and God᾽s moral will. The present paper is focused on the distinction between different forms of the naturalistic fallacy objection. In his next paper the author will investigate to what extent this objection is valid as far as the structure of Thomistic ethics is concerned
Investigation of a flow field generated by a fractal grid based on experimental data and CFD simulations
Fractal grids generate turbulence by directly exciting many length-scales of different sizes simultaneously, rather than using the nonlinear cascade mechanism to obtain multiscale excitation, as it is the case for classical grids. These scales influence each other and show very different properties compared to all previously documented turbulent flows. In this work we present experimental wind tunnel and computer fluid dynamics (CFD) studies of the turbulent flow generated by a fractal grid under the same conditions. We did an extensive statistical study and a direct comparison between the experimentally and numerically acquired time series in order to investigate and compare one-point- and two-point-statistics. In addition we present an application of a stochastic method, so-called Langevin approach, to the experimentally and numerically acquired velocity increment time series to examine three-point-statistics in terms of Kramers-Moyal coefficients
The Lists of W. G. Sebald
Since the late 1990s, W. G. Sebald’s innovative contribution to the genre of prose fiction has been the source of much academic scrutiny. His books Vertigo, The Rings of Saturn, The Emigrants and Austerlitz have provoked interest from diverse fields of inquiry: visual communication (Kilbourn; Patt; Zadokerski), trauma studies (Denham and McCulloh; Schmitz), and travel writing (Blackler; Zisselsberger). His work is also claimed to be a bastion for both modernist and postmodernist approaches to literature and history writing (Bere; Fuchs and Long; Long). This is in addition to numerous “guide to” type books, such as Mark McCulloh’s Understanding Sebald, Long and Whitehead’s W. G. Sebald—A Critical Companion, and the comprehensive Saturn’s Moons: A W. G. Sebald Handbook. Here I have only mentioned works available in English. I should point out that Sebald wrote in German, the country of his birth, and as one would expect much scholarship dealing with his work is confined to this language

Psapharochrus flavitarsis Fuchs 1962

Fuchs (1962) deposited the holotype of this species in the G. Frey collection, which is presently part of the NHMB, contrary to Monné (2005) who considered it to be in ZSMC. This species is illustrated for the first time by the photograph of the female paratype (CHSV). Specimens examined. BRAZIL, Bahia: Ilhéus, female, XII. 1978 (W. Giocomo) (MNRJ). Der künstlerische Widerspruch eines politisierten Autors Anmerkungen zum literarischen Werk von Jürgen Fuchs im 21. Jahrhundert
Jürgen Fuchs (1950–1999) was born in the GDR and was a writer, journalist, essayist, peace movement activist and psychologist. Before the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 Fuchs was the most important author living in the forced emigration. In 1976 Fuchs was arrested by the Ministry for State Security. The reason for prosecution was political. The government deprived of his citizenship and send him to the West Germany. The basis of the exile was connected with long conflict between authorities and Fuchs litetature. The article shows the biography, creation and political activity of J. Fuchs who was known in the 21st century mainly as a dissident and political author meanwhile he was a writer focused on GDR and the settlement with German dictatorship. This contribution explains the reason of difficult reception of his heritage and encourages the thinking about East Germany legacy
