Author ID’s: enhance visibility and accessibility: Workshop 2
Papers presented at the second workshop on Author ID’s: enhance visibility and accessibility , Auditorium, Merensky Library, University of Pretoria, 28 October 2015Follow up on the first workshop (Researcher ID Workshop), the aim of this workshop was to continue discussion on the information specialists' role in enhancing research visibility and accessibility. A large part of the workshop was devoted to a discussion and practical demonstration of ORCID ID by Mr Matthew Buys, the Regional Director of ORCID. Author IDs were also discussed from different perspectives, including a junior information specialist (Ms Lesego Makhafola); a cataloguer (Ms Martha De Waal); a researcher (Prof. Estelle Venter) and a case study at GIBS (Ms Beulah Muller).mn201
Time trends in the prevalence of peanut allergy: three cohorts of children from the same geographical location in the UK.
Background: This article investigated the prevalence of peanut allergy in three cohorts of children born in the same geographical location, Isle of Wight, UK and seeks to determine whether the prevalence of peanut allergy has changed between 1994 and 2004. Methods: Three cohorts of children (age 3-4 years) born on the Isle of Wight, were assessed for peanut allergy and the outcomes compared: Cohort A: Born in 1989; reviewed at 4 years of age (n = 2181). Cohort B: Born between 1994 and 1996; reviewed between 3 and 4 years of age (n = 1273). Cohort C: Born between 2001 and 2002; reviewed at 3 years of age (n = 891). Results: Peanut sensitization increased significantly from 1.3% in Cohort A to 3.3% (P = 0.003) in Cohort B before falling back to 2.0% in Cohort C (P = 0.145). Similarly, clinical peanut allergy increased significantly from 0.5% in Cohort A to 1.4% (P = 0.023) in Cohort B, with a subsequent fall to 1.2% in Cohort C (P = 0.850). Conclusions: Our data from three cohorts of 3- to 4-year-old children born in the same geographical area shows that peanut allergy prevalence has changed over time. Peanut sensitization and reported allergy in children born in 1994-1996 increased from 1989 but seems to have stabilized or slightly decreased since the late 1990s, although not significant

New Advances in the Modelling of Pulsar Magnetospheres
The wealth of high-energy (E &50MeV) and very-high-energy (E >100 GeV) data accumulated
over the past few years have provided unprecedented opportunities to probe pulsar emission models.
The Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) has now detected over 200 g -ray pulsars of vastly
different ages, providing an extensive dataset of spectra and light curves compared to a mere
decade ago. Ground-based Cherenkov telescopes deepened our appreciation of the mysterious
richness of the pulsar mechanism by a surprise detection of pulsed emission up to 1 TeV from the
Crab pulsar. These discoveries position us to make real progress in pulsar theory. A number of
studies have developed new and enhanced existing dissipative magnetohydrodynamical (MHD)
and particle-in-cell (PIC) codes to solve the global electrodynamics and pursue fundamental questions
about magnetospheric particle injection, acceleration, and radiation. While MHD models
capture the global aspects of pulsar magnetospheres, the microphysics need to be probed selfconsistently
by PIC simulations. Some dissipative MHD models consider the current sheet (CS)
as an important site for high-energy curvature radiation (CR), while early PIC results point to
energy dissipation taking place in the CS, where particles are accelerated by magnetic reconnection
and may possibly emit g rays via synchrotron radiation (SR). This is in marked contrast to
some older local emission models that studied CR g rays produced in gaps nearer to the spinning
neutron star. The universality of these results should become clearer as current computational
restrictions are overcome and boundary conditions are refined. Continued and combined polarimetric,
spectral, and temporal measurements should aid us in scrutinising these new emission
models in our persistent pursuit of a deeper understanding of the pulsar marve

This review article of the collection of essays edited by M Van Campen and G C den Hertog deals with the question of the relationship between Jews and Christians. The publication, Israël, volk, land en staat, by the Centre for Israel Studies in the Netherlands is discussed. This article also summarises and comments on the views in the publication regarding the need for a dialogue between Christians and Jews, the election of Israel, its identity and alienation, the role of history and the meaning of the land and the State of Israel
Raphionacme moyalicus (Periplocaceae), a new species from Kenya
Raphionacme moyalicus Venter & R.L. Verh., a new species from Moyale, Northern Frontier Province, Kenya, is described and figured. A map with its known distribution is also provided. R. moyalicus shows affinity with R. michelii De Wild., R. borenensis Venter & M.G. Gilbert and R. arabica A,G. Mill. & Biagi. These species all have in common filiform corona lobes and stamens with fleshy, laterally dilated filament bases. All are erect to spreading, single- or few-stemmed, geophytic herbs. R. moyalicus is distinguished by its long corona lobes, twice as long as the corolla lobes, the small flowers and the dense, scaberulous indumentum

Experimentally determined material parameters for temperature prediction of an automobile tire using finite element analysis

Uni-axial tensile tests were performed on tire samples. The force displacement response of each was used to determine material properties by means of direct curve-fitting and iterative numerical procedures. Equivalent finite element simulation models were used to validate the properties. Hysteresis behaviour of the rubber regions were identified by dynamic mechanical analysis. Material definitions were incorporated into a finite element model to predict the steady-state heat generation and temperature distribution within a tire due to hysteresis. Experimental rolling tire temperature measurements were taken on a test bench.
