    No full text
In this paper, Gloria Politi embarks upon an analysis of Goodnight, Mister Lenin seen as an interpretation of the genre of reportage in the peculiar way by its author Tiziano Terzani. In terms of methodology, this approach draws on theories of literary criticism, textual hermeneutics and narratology. The analysis shows how the depiction of the flow of events before the reader’s eyes reveals an inner gaze that, according to Pavel Florensky, almost creates a figurative mark, just like the impressions conveyed by poetry. Terzani’s word thus expresses all its evocative potential as a narrative transfer of the rendering of space in the visual arts

Playing with autism. Encountering Simona Concaro by her music. Vol. 1.1

    No full text
Playing with Autism contains twenty-four original pieces for piano, recorded and carefully transcribed in current music notation by Pierluigi Politi and Hanna Shybayeva. Simona Concaro, the author, is a young woman suffering of low-functioning autism. She lives in Cascina Rossago, a farm-community, designed to meet the needs of people with autism, in Oltrepo pavese (Italy). Since she was three, Simona Concaro has created original compositions on piano, instrument she learned by herself, refusing any kind of musical education. In everyday life, Simona does not use verbal language and has low autonomy. Her music, on the contrary, contains interesting features – melodic, rhythmic and harmonic –, even in the presence of some iterative elements, typical of the autistic spectrum

The Presence of the Great Goddess in Contemporary Polish Literature (and Beyond)

    No full text
In these most recent years the figure of the Great Goddess has conquered the covers of magazines and was the protagonist of an acclaimed film, such as: God Exists, her Name is Petrunija (2019). Its presence in contemporary Polish literature can be observed starting from a poem by Wislawa Szymborska, A Paleolithic Fertility Fetish (from the collection No End of Fun, 1967), up to the most recent books by Nobel laureate Olga Tokarczuk, such as Anna In in the Underworld (2006) or Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead (2009). Along this path, the Great Goddess “strengthens” her presence in Polish literature to the point of also appearing in Szczepan Twardoch’s novel The King of Warsaw (2016) where the point of view is mainly male, when not macho
