Early treatment with ACTH-(1-24) in haemorrhagic shock in humans: futher data
No full textIntroduction. We have previously shown that in patients with aortic dissection-induced haemorrhagic shock, the addition of an early intravenous injection of the melanocortin peptide ACTH-(1-24) (10 mg) to the standard treatment significantly increased survival rate (75% reduction in mortality) (1). Here we present the results obtained in a larger patient population, that confirm and strengthen the previous data. Materials and Methods. In our Cardiac Surgery Unit of Villa Maria Cecilia Hospital, all patients in haemorrhagic shock were consecutively enrolled in this study during the period 2002-2004 (112 subjects in all): 105 patients had aortic dissection (95 type A, 10 type B) and 7 patients had massive post-operative haemorrhage (mean estimated blood losses >5L). The European score was >15 and systolic blood pressure was 25% and neurologic complications in more than >20% of these patients, when subjected to the standard treatment alone.

No full textLa Sicilia del Seicento nella storiografia guariniana appare oggi un mondo ancora poco conosciuto e condizionato dalla percezione di una lontananza dalle capitali dell'avanguardia artistica, i presunti ritardi, il sociologismo schematico che delinea per il XVII secolo decadenza e perifericità. In realtà nei quattro anni di soggiorno a Messina (1657 e il 1662) e in Sicilia bisogna rintracciare una consistente parte di formazione, attività, produzione che può essere spiegata attraverso l'intreccio di tre argomenti diversi da esaminare: i progetti elaborati dall’architetto teatino in questo intervallo (la chiesa della Santissima Annunziata e la chiesa dei Padri Somaschi a Messina); le suggestioni desunte dal contesto che hanno colpito e influenzato Guarini durante e dopo l'esperienza siciliana attraverso la conoscenza di opere significative (la facciata piramidale di San Matteo a Palermo; l'impianto centrico con deambulatorio della scomparsa chiesa di Santa Lucia al Borgo a Palermo; la soluzione ad archi intrecciati della cupola e la struttura telescopica della composizione della chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Paolo a Forza D'Agrò); infine, lo studio della sua eredità in ambito locale

Two members of the class of 1995, Robert Guarini and Christian Arakelian, were presented the 2007 Distinguished Alumni Award by President Kevin M. Ross on March 31, as part of Lynn’s 2007 Alumni Weekend festivities.
Guarini is the co-owner of Boynton Beach-based Green Park Management, the construction and management company for Hampton Inn hotels in South Florida. He sponsored the Lynn Parents and Families Weekend 2006 and has supported the College of Hospitality Management, the Alumni Association, alumni and parents weekends, and the annual Frank A. Robino Golf Classic.
Arakelian is a member of the management team at Troy, N.Y.- based Standard Manufacturing Company, the parent company of Sportsmaster Apparel, American Image and Zurich-based Great for Image. No full textNell’ambito della progettazione Architettonica, il BIM (Building Information Modeling) è una procedura sempre più presente e, nel caso di appalti pubblici sopra un determinato importo, richiesta obbligatoriamente dalle pubbliche amministrazioni. È un importante strumento per condividere le informazioni tra i professionisti dei diversi settori implicati nel progetto: architettonico, strutturale, impiantistico. Purtroppo, tra questi la progettazione illuminotecnica non è ancora perfettamente integrata e sono disponibili più soluzioni alternative di cui il progettista dovrebbe essere a conoscenza. In questo testo, dopo aver introdotto il concetto di BIM, il professionista può trovare indicazioni su come sia possibile integrare il progetto illuminotecnico in uno dei software di riferimento del settore, Autodesk Revit, nativamente o tramite l’utilizzo di Plugin o esportazioni verso applicazione dedicate come DIALux EVO. Verrà anche introdotto il tema del Colore all’interno dei sistemi CAD, strettamente legato alla illuminazione, e sarà anche dato ampio risalto all’utilizzo al suo interno del motore di Rendering VRay Next, per una previsualizzazione fotometricamente corretta del progetto
Financial crises and cyclic development according to the approach of Paolo Sylos Labini
No full textIn his “Le prospettive dell’economia mondiale” (“Prospects for the world economy”) of 2003 Paolo Sylos Labini analyses the real and financial factors of the American economy and expresses pessimistic forebodings on the future economic trends in the USA and other parts of the world which, in the light of the events occurring as from 2007, can now be seen to have been justified. The aim of this paper is to provide his ideas with a place in the present debate on the American financial crisis and, to this end, the paper is divided into three parts. To begin with we will delineate the approach taken by Paolo Sylos Labini in examining the links between the financial system and economic system, highlighting the classical, Schumpeterian and Keynesian elements contained in it. We will then turn the focus on the four key elements of financial crisis according to Sylos: income distribution, innovation, market forms and debt sustainability. Finally, we will recall some considerations by Sylos on the three themes central to the present debate on the American crisis, namely the rate of interest in monetary policy, the role of the managers, and expectations
