Air quality and worker health effects in materials recovery facilities (MRFs) in England and Wales.
There are varying types of Materials Recycling Facilities (MRFs, also known as Materials
Recovery Facilities, or Materials Recycling Factories) in operation in the UK and throughout
Europe. A full outline of the various types of MRF operations is given by the Institute of Wastes
Management (IWM 2000). This review concentrates on MRFs used to sort and process sourcesegregated
household and commercial waste, the most common type. A MRF that deals with
household and commercial waste is defined as a central operation where source-segregated, dry,
recyclable materials are sorted, mechanically or manually, to market specifications for
processing into secondary materials
Aerial view of the Gladding, McBean & Co. pottery (the former Tropico Pottery Works) in Los Angeles, California, 1924
Photograph of an aerial view of the Gladding, McBean & Co. pottery (the former Tropico Pottery Works) in Los Angeles, California, 1924. Buildings jut up against one another at the works: first, there is a long, one-story building backed by what appears to be a warehouse, and a manufacturing building. Several other long, low, flat-roofed buildings are also seen. Towards the back of the site smokestacks reach above the buildings, at least twice their height, expelling nothing. Cylindrical domes a quarter of the average building on the lot's size are laced in between them. A lawn with winding and circular tracks is visible behind this, along with a clump of trees. A water tower stands in the extreme foreground.; "The former Tropico Pottery was located in the city of Los Angeles (the dividing line between Glendale and Los Angeles was the SP railroad tracks). GMcB had two plants in Los Angeles. When GMcB acquired the Tropico Pottery in 1923, the company referred to the former Tropico Pottery plant as the Glendale plant so as not to confuse the plant with their already existing LA plant. GMcB never had a plant in the city of Glendale. Unfortunately by calling the plant the Glendale plant, this only confused the actual location of the plant" -- James Elliot-Bishop, author of "Franciscan, Catalina and Other Gladding, McBean Wares 1875-1942"

Photograph of an aerial view of the Gladding, McBean & Co. pottery (the former Tropico Pottery Works) in Los Angeles, California, May 1928. At center, a large cluster of buildings and small structures can be seen. To the immediate left of the buildings, two large lines of small, flat cylindrical tanks are visible. On the perimeter of the buildings, at least eleven large smokestacks can be seen. In the foreground, two additional long buildings are visible. Small unidentifiable objects completely surround the lower building, and groups of these objects are seen to the further left. In the extreme foreground to the right, a cluster of buildings and trees sit adjacent to several railroad tracks. In the extreme background to the left, winding dirt roads can be seen moving past large groups of trees. To the far right, several small houses and trees are visible.; "The former Tropico Pottery was located in the city of Los Angeles (the dividing line between Glendale and Los Angeles was the SP railroad tracks). Measurement of direct CP asymmetry in B± → J/ K± decays produced in pp̅ collisions at √s = 1.96TeV
A measurement of direct CP asymmetry is performed using 6fb−1 of pp̄ collisions at
√s = 1.96TeV from the
CDF detector at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. Approximately 80,000 B− → J/ K− (and charge conjugate) events were selected on the dimuon trigger and the yields were determined using a simultaneous mass and lifetime
fit. After corrections, a measurement of ACP = 0.0034 ± 0.0043(stat.) ± 0.0060(syst.) is obtained, which is
consistent with the SM prediction and previous measurements at DØ and the B factories.Item withdrawn by Mark Zulauf ([email protected]) on 2011-06-06T13:22:55Z

Façade cladding affect on residential buildings cooling need
Magistritöö
Maaehituse õppekavalEnergiatõhususnõuded on tänapäeval aina aktuaalsemad, kuid hoonete energiatõhususe sertifitseerimine määruste järgi on küllaltki üldistav. Sellest tulenevalt uuritakse kuidas mõjutab hoone fassaadikattematerjal hoone jahutusvajadust. Mõõdeti ühe eramu puit- ning kivifassaadi tuulutusvahe temperatuure suve perioodil erinevates ilmakaartes ning teostati saadud tulemiga dünaamiline energiasimulatsioon programmis IDA ICE 4.8. Autor püsitas kaks hüpoteesi, mis said kinnitust, ehk vaatlusperioodil on temperatuur kivifassaadi taga vähemalt kõrgem 20%, mis omakorda mõjutab hoone jahutusvajadust vähemalt 10%.Energy efficiency is becoming more timely nowadays but energy efficiency calculation regulations are quite generalizing. The main goal of this study is to understand how different faccade gladding affect the cooling need of a residental building. In this study the ventilation gaps of stone and wood cladding were monitored in different cardinal directions and used in energy simulation with IDA ICE 4.8. The author hypotheized that temperature under stone gladding is 20% higher and the cooling need with monitored temperatures is atleast 10% higher. Both of the hypthothezis were confiremd

D/sup 0/ /minus/ /bar D//Sup 0/ mixing: The experimental situation
D/sup 0/ /minus/ /bar D//sup 0/ mixing, the extent to which the flavor eigenstate D/sup 0/ is not a mass eigenstate, is expected to be quite small in the standard model. Consequently, any evidence for the existence of D/sup 0/ /minus/ /bar D//sup 0/ mixing at the currently experimentally accessible levels would indicate the need for explanations invoking new physics. In this report, I will review the current experimental situation. 8 refs., 8 figs
