Experimental investigation vs numerical simulation of the dynamic response of a moored floating structure to waves

    No full text
A combined experimental/numerical investigation of a moored floating structure response to incoming waves is presented. The floating structure consists of three bodies, equipped with fenders, joined by elastic cables. The system is also moored to the seabed with eight mooring lines. This corresponds to an actual configuration of a floating structure used for ships and submarines in special docking operations. The dynamic wave response is investigated by performing experiments in a towing tank equipped with a wave maker. Experimental results are compared with numerical simulations in regular and irregular waves, showing a good agreement. The predicted time histories of pitch, heave and surge motions of the three-body structure and of the mooring line forces bear very satisfactorily the experimental results in regular head waves. The case of irregular waves is also encouraging, since the statistics of the response is correctly kept up to the fourth-order statistical moments. This confirms that the theoretical model proposed in this paper is a suitable tool to predict the actual behaviour of a complex moored structure at sea

Georges Gurvitch e la libertà situata

    No full text
The topicality of Georges Gurvitch's thought can be identified in the concept of “situated freedom”. This is a kind of solution proposed by the author, as the freedom of the subject in a certain society, in interaction with others; as such, it cannot be absolute but mediated on the basis of the situation in which the subject and the system are confronted from time to time

Le folle di Gustave Le Bon

Gustave Le Bon's theory of crowds is one of the first theories which - in the sociological field - bridges holistic and individualistic approaches. In fact, the author analyzes the action of the crowds, but always as a collective impetus and with the hope of constructive actions. There is also a strong topicality in the reflection of the role played by instinct as a catalyst for action towards homologation in a crowd / mass and its strength, in moments of social uncertainty. Spaghetti-like structures made of fibers whose diameter are of about 1-2 mum, straight structures from about 10-20 mum and optically semitransparent particles, with linear dimension up to about 0.3 mm, were obtained from fine graphite powder in water subjected for 20 h to acoustic cavitation at a frequency of 19.5 kHz
