A Matrix Transformation for the Calculation of Mutual Inductances in Presence of Passive Conductors

    No full text
The problem of the calculation of the "equivalent" mutual inductance matrix of an axisymmetric system of "active conductors", in presence of one or more "passive conductors" has been encountered during the design phase of RFX fusion experimental device [1] and has already been solved [2]. More recently, during the characterization of the electromagnetic parameters (L, M) of the RFX poloidal field system, a more simple method, described here, has been developed and used for a comparison between measured parameters and design parameters. The method can only be adopted if the time-scale considered is short enough or the conductivity of the passive conductors is high enough. In this case the eddy currents induced on the passive conductors prevent any penetration of flux through their surfaces, which therefore are not crossed by induction field lines and can be considered as constant-flux surfaces or virtually "superconductive surfaces".
