Comparison study on AIS data of ship traffic behavior

    No full text
AIS (Automatic Identification System) data provides valuable input parameters in ship traffic simulation models for maritime risk analysis and the prevention of shipping accidents. This article reports on the detailed comparisons of AIS data analysis between a Dutch case and a Chinese case. This analys is focuses on restricted waterways to support inland waterway simulations, comparing the differences between a narrow waterway in the Netherlands (the Port of Rotterdam) and a wide one in China (wide water way of Yangtze River close to the SuTong Bridge). It is shown that straightforward statistical distributions can be used to characterise lateral position, speed, heading and interval times for different types and sizes of ships. However, the distributions for different characteristics of ship behaviours differ significantly

Assembly FG: An Education Case Study Using QuickBooks as the AIS for a Small Manufacturing Business

    No full text
ABSTRACT This education case is the first to use QuickBooks Premier Accountant to teach students foundation functionalities common to all Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems that support discrete manufacturing. Students learn how to configure QuickBooks so that direct materials, direct labor and applied manufacturing overhead costs charged to work-in-process parts manufactured at lower levels of the BOM are rolled up into the costs of higher-level work-in-process parts and, ultimately, into the costs of the finished goods parts. Students set up raw materials, work-in-process and finished goods part numbers so that quantities and costs of parts on-hand are tracked in inventory on the Perpetual Inventory System to provide an inventory subsidiary ledger that continuously matches the manufacturing inventory account balances in the Chart of Accounts. Students learn the importance of configuring Off the Shelf (OTS) manufacturing systems in accurately costing manufactured discrete products, including setting up manufacturing accounts, employees, part numbers, and the BOM. As such, the case is designed to be used in Accounting Information Systems (AIS) courses that are already using QuickBooks to help students' better understand the general concepts covered in AIS textbooks on the Production Cycle that are not addressed in extant textbooks on QuickBooks.</jats:p

Merchandise Hardware: A Case Designed to Teach Students Generalized Audit Software Using Microsoft Access

    No full text
ABSTRACT This paper provides an educational case wherein students learn how Microsoft Access (“Access”) can be used as Generalized Audit Software (“GAS”). Students export data from an Access database provided in the case that simulates a portion of the Expenditure Cycle in the Accounting Information System (“AIS”) used by the case company. Students then import the downloaded data into another Access database where Queries and a Module are used as GAS to analyze and audit the data. In the case, students assume the roles of accounts payable manager, general ledger accountant, procurement manager and internal/external auditor, thereby learning that not only auditors but also accountants and managers can use GAS. Once the students have created and executed the Access GAS procedures illustrated in the case, they are given an assignment that includes modifying a case GAS procedure, documenting GAS procedures, and recommending and implementing improvements in the case AIS based on GAS results. The case is designed to teach students general concepts for planning and performing GAS procedures and software skills in using Access as GAS. This paper is the first educational case that illustrates how Access Modules can be used as GAS.</jats:p

<p>Confocal microscopy photomicrographs show that interference RNAs against ankyrin G impair the concentration of Kv1.2 and Kv2.2 at the AIS. Before plating, hippocampal neurons were nucleofected with plasmids expressing scrambled shRNA (<u>A</u>–<u>C</u>, <u>G</u>–<u>I</u>) or ankyrin G shRNA (<u>D</u>–<u>F</u>, <u>J</u>–<u>L</u>), and subsequently cultured until 18 DIV. The neurons were then double stained with antibodies against ankyrin G or pIκBα (14D4 blue) and Kv1.2 or Kv2.2 (red). Nucleofected neurons were identified by GFP fluorescence. Ankyrin G, the protein recognized by 14D4 antibodies, Kv1.2 and Kv2.2 concentrated in the AIS of neurons expressing scrambled shRNA plasmids (<u>A</u> and <u>G</u>) and in non-nucleofected neurons (arrowhead in <u>D</u>–<u>F</u>). However, in the absence of ankyrin G in neurons nucleofected with ankyrin G shRNA (<u>D</u>–<u>F</u>, <u>J</u>–<u>L</u>), no Kv1.2 or Kv2.2 immunostaining was observed at the AIS. Note that patches of Kv2.2 immunostaining in the cell somata were not affected by ankyrin G interference (<u>K</u>). Scale bar = 25 µm. Arrows indicate AISs and asterisks indicate the somas of non-nucleofected neurons.</p

Norma Coverdale, B.A.: the treatment of women in selected works of Henry de Montherlant

The aim of this thesis is to determine how women are treated in selectedworks of Henry de Montherlant. This is explored by examining their relationshipswith other women as well as with men. Inevitably, this leads to an analysis ofthe multifaceted area of love. Part I researches Montherlant's prose work and included in this section is the investigation of the importance of 'l'ordre male' to the author and the influence this exerts over his early prose work in the areas of tauromachy, war and sport, and where the male adherence to this concept leaves women. The 'syncretisme et alternance' which is central to Montherlant's thinking is explored in this section.Part 2 is concerned with Montherlant's theatre in which the psychological development of the main characters is of great importance. It is in this section that a comparative study is made of the influence of Mme. Elisabeth Zehrfuss' written contribution to La Reine morte. Her unpublished notes are set out in full in the Appendix. The thesis also draws on the unpublished correspondence between Henry de Montherlant and Elisabeth Zehrfuss between the years 1934 and 1945. An investigation is made as to whether or not there are any differences between the way women are treated in Montherlant's prose and in his theatre and the conclusion is drawn that there are

manage 4D historical AIS data by Space Filling Curve

    No full text
This MSc thesis aims to research how to efficiently manage 4D AIS data (Longitude, Latitude, Time, and MMSI (the ID of the vessel)) to do the fast query by using the Space Filling curve in PostgreSQL. The AIS is the Automatic Identification System which is born because the frequent occurrence of maritime accidents has caused casualties and economic losses. AIS is intended to assist a vessel’s watchstanding officers and allow maritime authorities to track and monitor the vessels’ movement. For now, the AIS has been used in various kinds of fields because the AIS data is really important and useful. The AIS data contains lots of useful information such as the dynamic information (including ship location, speed, heading, and so on), the static information (including ship name, ship type...), and some other types of data. Because of the useful information that AIS includes, there a great many useful applications based on the AIS data. For example, the AIS data is used for detecting the vessels’ anomalies motions or tracking the vessels. While the studies mainly focus on the applications of the AIS data, The efficient management of the AIS data is neglected. Hence, I am going to study how to efficiently manage the multidimensional AIS data. Space Filling Curve (SFC) will be used to manage the multidimensional AIS data. The SFC is a great method for indexing the multidimensional data. The SFC can map data in multidimensional space to 1D space. There are lots of kinds of SFC, such as Morton curve, Hilbert curve, Gray curve, and so on. And the Morton curve and Hilbert curve are used in this thesis because of the property of the locality form the nD space is preserved in the location on the curve [Dai and Su, 2003] and both are so-called quadrant recursive curves [Meijers and van Oosterom, 2018] which is the very significant property. In my research, I proposed two kinds of methods to manage 4D AIS data. One is the 4D integrated approach that the 4D AIS data is encoded to SFC together. The other is the 3D integrated approach, only 3D AIS (Longitude, Latitude, and Time) data is encoded. To test the two approaches, bounding box query (to find the vessels in a given space and time range) and trajectory query (to find the position information of a specific vessel in a give time range) will be implemented in the database. To verify the usability and superiority of my approach, the benchmark is set. The comparison between the two approaches I proposed will be done. And results prove that the SFC approach I used to manage the 4D AIS data is great after comparing it with the benchmark I put forward.Geomatic

Predict Maneuvering Indices Using AIS Data by Ridge Regression

    No full text
Since Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) was widely used in navigation industry, it has not only greatly benefited ship operations to keep encountered vessels visible to each other, but also fosters the relevant researches. Because AIS message contain vessel's identity, position, course, speed and so on, the application of AIS data make it possible to investigate accurate and actual behaviors of ships during ship maneuvering. The ridge regression is presented for identify maneuvering indices in Nomoto\u92s model, and the result indicates that the method is robust and does not rely on initial estimation. For selecting appropriate AIS data for maneuvering indices predicting, a frequency domain identification method is presented. Integrated with the predicted indices, the ship maneuvering mathematical model can be used to simulate the vessel traffic flow and assess the risk of collision
