The matter of form: reasons of form in structural components
What is the role of the relationship between form and structure in contemporary architecture? Can this relationship be the basis for the creation of new forms? And in particular what does role do to the connection to the ground in this relationship?
The thesis aims to investigate form in its generative relationship with structure, within the contemporary Swiss cultural context, focusing on the connection to the ground.
It investigates how structure can be the founding element of the project in its aesthetic aspect and material concreteness, capable through variations, alterations, to become generative text of form. The material is intercepted in the structural, load-bearing, and therefore founding components of architecture, (Berlanda 2013; Berlanda 2014 a; Mosco 2012). For this reason the thesis focuses on the connection to the ground, which becomes the pivotal element around which to read the relationship between the formal component and the structural component. How the loads from the top arrive at the crucial point of relationship with the soil and how the soil relates to the project
Il Carcer nella produzione di Cardano
Alongside a larger analysis of Cardano's moral philosophy since the De consolatione (1542), the essay focuses on the dialogue Carcer, and suggests a relationship between the difficulties encountered by the author in the Duchy of Milan in 1560-61, and the trial of 1570 in Bologna. Special attention is devoted to the philosophical reasons that support in the Carcer the Plutarchean sera numinis vindicta, one of Cardano's favorites topics
Supporting evidences for potential biomarkers of endometriosis detected in peripheral blood
AbstractIncidence of endometriosis is very high in women in the reproductive age (around 10%). To date, a reliable non-invasive diagnostic test for early diagnosis of endometriosis is not available. In this article we describe the potential value as diagnostic markers for endometriosis of two proteins (serum albumin and complement C3 precursor), previously identified as differentially expressed in women with endometriosis respect to healthy control by 2D gel analysis. A detailed description of the results obtained with this proteomic approach can be found in Signorile and Baldi [1]. ELISAs were performed on a large cohort of endometriosis (n=100) and healthy patients (n=10) to establish the differential expression of the identified proteins. ROC analyses confirmed the statistical significance of the differential expression of these proteins: serum albumin (p=0.028) ad complement C3 precursor (p=0.082). Evaluation of these two proteins, together with the already described Zn-alpha2-glycoprotein [1], could help in the early identification of endometriosis patient
Exact controllability for quasilinear perturbations of KdV
We prove that the KdV equation on the circle remains exactly controllable in arbitrary time with localized control, for sufficiently small data, also in the presence of quasilinear perturbations, namely nonlinearities containing up to three space derivatives, having a Hamiltonian structure at the highest orders. We use a procedure of reduction to constant coefficients up to order zero (adapting a result of Baldi, Berti and Montalto (2014)), the classical Ingham inequality and the Hilbert uniqueness method to prove the controllability of the linearized operator. Then we prove and apply a modified version of the Nash–Moser implicit function theorems by Hörmander (1976, 1985)
