Allergic contact dermatitis due to a henna-tattoo with sensitization to p-phenylene diamine (PPD) and hydroquinone
Is there a future for treating allergy patients as inpatients? An update on recent changes in the political framework
While in 2003 dagnosis-related groups (DRG) in Germany were based on the Australian original, the new Version 2004 was generated from German hospital data. Hence, it is more likely to represent patient care in Germany. Including data from a number of university hospitals, it is anticipated that sophisticated medical care will be more justly paid for than before. These changes also affect payment for allergy patients. For example, reimbursement for specific immunotherapy in hymenoptera venom allergy has doubled when compared to 2003. When compared to classic dermatological cases like erysipelas or atopic dermatitis on the basis of profitability, care for allergy inpatients appears to be worthwile considering and should not be neglected when defining the portfolio of the department. However, it must not be overlooked that shifts in the political framework will have a pronounced effect on future inpatient care and must be taken into consideration when defining future admission strategies
