Near and mid-IR spectroscopic properties of Er3+ doped and Er3+/Nd3+ codoped lutetium lithium fluoride single crystal

    No full text
High quality Er3+/Nd3+ co- doped Lutetium lithium fluoride (LiLuF4) single crystals with a size of 10 mmx90 mm were grown by a Bridgman method. XRD, absorption spectra, and fluorescence spectra of these single crystals were studied. Enhanced mid- IR emission of 2.7m, and weakened up-conversion emission of 550 nm and down-conversion emission of 1.5 mu m emission were observed in Er3+/Nd3+ co-doped LiLuF4 single crystals under an exciting light of 808 nm, as compared with Er3+ singly-doping. Meanwhile, Mid-IR emissions of 3.6 mu m and 4.2 mu m were also observed in Er3+/Nd3+ co-doped LiLuF4 single crystals. Energy transfer efficiencies between Nd3+ and Er3+ ions were calculated and the decay curves of the 1.06 mu m for Nd3+ emission and 1.5 mu m for Er3+ emission were analyzed with a modified Inokuti-Hirayama model. The large energy transfer efficiency of 95.6% and excellent optical properties indicate that this Er3+/Nd3+ co-doped LiLuF4 single crystal is a potential candidate for the applications in mid-IR laser

White Light Emission From Tb3+/Sm3+ Codoped LiYF4 Single Crystal Excited by UV Light

    No full text
LiYF4 single crystals codoped with Tb3+/Sm3+ ions were synthesized by the vertical Bridgman method. When excited by 374-nm ultraviolet light, the crystals emit violet-blue, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red light. The white light as a result of a combination of these emissions can be achieved from Tb3+ (1.25 mol%) and Sm3+ (2.22 mol%) codoped LiYF4 crystal with chromaticity coordinates of x = 0.3143, y = 0.3484, and color temperature T-c = 6322 K by 374-nm excitation. Both chromaticity coordinates and photoluminescence intensity vary with the concentration of rare earth dopants and the excitation wavelengths. This crystal may be a potential candidate for the UV-light excited white LED device

Mechanical performances of track-shaped rebar stiffened concrete-filled steel tubular (SCFRT) stub columns under axial compression

    No full text
This paper presents a combined experimental, numerical, and theoretical study on the mechanical behaviors of track-shaped concrete-filled steel tubular (SCFRT) stub columns stiffened by rebars under compressive load. A total of 18 track-shaped concrete-filled steel tubular specimens including 12 specimens stiffened by rebars and 6 non-stiffened counterparts are tested, with consideration of parameters including flakiness ratio, concrete strength, and stiffeners. Failure pattern, bearing capacity, and ductility are all analyzed and discussed based on the experimental results. The numerical simulation by finite element (FE) software ABAQUS is also conducted. Based on both experimental and numerical results, theoretical formula to predict the load-bearing capacity of SCFRT stub columns subjected to axial compression loading is established according to the superposition principle of ultimate load-bearing capacity with rational simplification. The proposed theoretical method provides accurate predictions on the load bearing capacity by comparing with experimental results from 18 groups of specimens

Upconversion luminescence from terbium and ytterbium codoped LiYF4 single crystals

Upconversion (UC) luminescence and its pump power dependent on UC emissions were investigated under excitation of near infrared light at 960 nm for the Tb3+/Yb3+ codoped LiYF4 single crystals. UC emissions at 488, 541, 654, and 669 nm and 382, 413, 436, 465, 477, and 484 nm arise transitions D-5(4) --> F-7(J) (J = 6, 5, 3, and 1) and D-5(3) --> F-7(J) (J = 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1) of Tb3+, respectively. UC mechanisms are proposed by analyzing the pump power dependent UC emission. The yellowish green light can be achieved from 0.32 mol% Tb3+ and 7.98 mol% Yb3+ codoped LiYF4 crystal with chromaticity coordinates of (0.2874, 0.6733) and color temperature T-c = 6280 K. A cooperative energy transfer process from excited Yb3+ to Tb3+ in main form of two-photons has been presented in LiYF4 at room temperature. The green and red emissions originating from upper D-5(4) state of these Tb3+/Yb3+ codoped single crystals may be considered as a promising potential application in the field of photonics, solid state lasers, and light emitting devices. How habit moderates the commute mode decision process: integration of the theory of planned behavior and latent class choice model

    No full text
This study attempts to develop a comprehensive framework by integrating the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and latent class choice model, with aim to understanding how mode-use habits moderate the process underlying commute mode choice. By designating habit as the covariate in the class membership model, three segments with unique mode-use habit style are obtained. First, heterogeneity in the effects of socio-demographic variables and TPB-related cognitive factors on commute mode choice across segments are empirically confirmed. Second, by directly including the whole TPB framework into the choice model, the decision-making mechanism underlying commute mode choice is explicitly reflected, which significantly varies with respect to specific mode choice in each segment. Either “a habitual and automatic behavior” or “a deliberate and rational decision” is finally determined. This study provides an empirical support to the moderating role of mode-use habit in the commute mode choice process, with a particular focus on its moderating role in the effect of TPB-related factors. The findings suggest that strategies to manage transport modes ownership and usage must be targeted towards specific population groups in order to gain effectiveness

Exploring the psychosocial factors associated with public transportation usage and examining the “gendered” difference

    No full text
Understanding the psychosocial factors that influence public transportation usage behavior can provide important implications for transport policies aimed at managing travelers’ mobility behavior. In the current study, a four-step analysis approach is developed to investigate the psychosocial determinants of public transportation usage behavior within the background of a small-sized Chinese city. The results suggest that public transportation specific factors including attitude, subjective norm, satisfaction, habit, and behavioral intention, as well as perceived car control, all contribute to explaining the target choice behavior. Behavioral intention is confirmed to be the most critical factor that influences public transportation usage behavior, while habit and satisfaction are important mediators in the process defined by the theory of planned behavior. Moreover, an examination upon “gendered” difference reflects that effects of both perceived car control and satisfaction vary distinctively across men and women groups, which demonstrates the necessity of demand management differentiation

Drivers of transit service loyalty considering heterogeneity between user segments

    No full text
Users’ loyalty to public transit service is fundamental to promote its popularity in the transportation market. A four-step analytical framework is advanced to investigate the importance of service attributes that heterogeneous transit user segments place on their public transit service loyalty, measured in terms of overall satisfaction and re-use intention. Critical service attributes perceived by transit users that are relevant for loyalty enhancement are explicitly determined, which vary between user segments. It is suggested that the design of strategies aimed to promote the use of public transit by increasing user loyalty towards transit service be targeted at specific attributes that contribute most to loyalty and specific user segments whose original loyalty level is significantly different to others

    No full text
The absorption spectra and up-conversion (UC) luminescence of Er3+/Yb3+ ions co-doped LiYF4 single crystals synthesized by vertical Bridgman method were investigated. Up-conversion emissions at 519, 522, 529 nm, and 541, 550 nm, and 649, 655, 669 nm were observed. The yellowish green light can be achieved from 2.14 mol% Er3+ and 4.04 mol% Yb3+ co-doped LiYE4 crystal. The mechanisms of UC emissions are proposed based on the pump power dependent UC spectra. A cooperative energy transfer process from excited Yb3+ to Er3+ in the form of two-photons has been presented in LiYF4 at room temperature
