The publication compounds the specialized terminology associated with Lower Franconian sheep farming in an alphabetically ordered dictionary. Included are lexemes from both Standard German and local dialect(s) as used contemporarily and in the recent past. The respective dictionary articles include, depending on relevance, further semantic, grammatical and etymological information alongside documented examples as well as details for the situational usage of those words. Special indexes are dedicated to dialect words as well as specific areas of shepherds’ work (handling of working dogs, herding and penning, diseases). The introduction outlines the structure of the dictionary as well as its genesis, along with the guidelines that underly the creation of the dictionary articles. Numerous illustrations and maps further relate to specific lemmas and expand the scope of information on Lower Franconian sheep farming and its jargon. The dictionary originated as a citizen science initiative and was developed in cooperation with the Lower Franconian Dialect Institute (Unterfränkisches Dialektinstitut) at the University of Würzburg
