Meliturgula (Meliturgula) Friese: Patiny 1999 a: 244, 248– 249. Poecilomelitta Friese, 1913 a: 585. Type species: Poecilomelitta flavida Friese, 1913, by designation of Sandhouse 1943. Meliturgula was described by Friese (1903), Meliturgula braunsi Friese (1903) being the only originally included species. Thereafter several species were described from sub-Saharan Africa. They are: Meliturgula (Poecilomelitta) eardleyana Patiny, Meliturgula (Poecilomelitta) flavida (Friese), Meliturgula (Poecilomelitta) fulginosa (Friese), Meliturgula (Meliturgula) haematospila Cockerell, Meliturgula (Poecilomelitta) rozeni Eardley, Meliturgula (Meliturgula) scriptifrons (Walker), Meliturgula (Popovmeliturgula) senegaliae Patiny, and Meliturgula (Meliturgula) wilmattae Cockerell. Five of these were included in a revision of the southern African Panurginae by Eardley (1991) (M. eardleyana and M. senegaliae were excluded) and six were included in a key by Patiny (2004) (M. senegaliae was excluded). One species occurs in Madagascar, namely Meliturgula insularis Benoist; it is not included in this article.Published as part of Eardley, Connal, 2009, A revision of the Southern African species of Meliturgula Friese (Hymenoptera: Andrenidae: Panurginae), pp. 39-51 in Zootaxa 2261 on page 41, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.27523
