An investigation of supply chain operational improvements for small and medium enterprises (SMEs): A UK manufacturing case study
Get PDFIn an increasingly turbulent business environment and intensive market competition and globalisation, manufacturing organisations of the 21st century have been forced to continuously seek improvements in their supply chain operations to increase productivity and quality. Therefore, making competition no longer between organisations but rather among its supply chains by seeking to reduce costs and improve quality as an alternative to gain higher market share. This paper investigates different aspects of operations and supply chain improvement of a small and medium manufacturing organisation in UK. The main objective of this paper is to help SMEs to identify deficiencies in their operations and take necessary steps to correct them to enhance performance and productivity in their supply chain operations. For this to happen, the current study has implemented lean approach as a method to improve the organisation’s supply chain, enhancing the quality of processes and products. By conducting interviews and observations together with gathering company internal records, it remarks some potential problems of the manufacturing company. Finally, several recommendations (such as introducing ERP system) are made for future improvements

The details of these varieties can barely be noticed by a non-professional and a non-Gypsy. Nevertheless, these details play an important role in group identification and in the differentiating between Gypsy groupings. Strategic Leadership Practices on Organizational Performance: A Case Study of Kenya Ports Authority
No full textOrganizations like Kenya Ports Authority were set up to achieve specific goals. For instance, one of the goals of the Kenya Ports Authority is to facilitate seaborne trade both for Kenya and other land-linked countries worldwide. This will lead to the improvement of Kenya\u27s economy and the creation of business. Part of the reasons for this failure has been inefficiencies in operations, berthing congestion, loss of cargo, mismanagement of funds, poor utilization of resources, and political wrangles. Most of the research done on Kenya, especially Kenya Ports Author researched on the effects of strategic leadership on organizational performance and that is why this research would like to study. The research used a descriptive survey method with a target population of 2021 which was withdrawn from the seven divisions of Kenya Ports Authority namely: Legal service, Human Resource and Administration, Operation, Engineering service, Finance, Corporate Service, and Infrastructure Development divisions where data was analyzed from the Kenya Ports Authority performance report from 2014 to 2021 on the financial reports from the year 2014 to 2019. The study concluded that communication of the strategic direction affects the performance of an organization positively, Core competence is the major booster in organizational performance; Proper human capital development indeed leads to an increase in organizational performance and Organizational culture is also crucial in organizational performance. The study recommends that Kenya Ports Authority should apply strategic leadership in their organization to increase performance positively
Assessing people-driven factors for circular economy practices in small and medium-sized enterprise supply chains: business strategies and environmental perspectives
Get PDFGlobalisation and technological advancements have increased the pressure on small businesses to increase their productivity and to gain competitive advantages. That pressure has been placed on the resources available, resulting in increased environmental degradation as a result of the traditional linear model of make-use-dispose. Circular economy (CE) practices offer the opportunity for sustainable production based on the reuse-remanufacture and recycling of resources for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to increase their sustainability, resulting in enhanced performance levels in terms of business strategies and environmental perspectives. But in academic literature, the role of people-driven factors (PDFs) in the adoption of CE practices in the supply chains (SCs) of SMEs is limited. Therefore, to fill this literature gap, this research looks at analysing PDFs for the implementation of CE in the SMEs in developing countries in two phases. PDFs are identified from an extensive literature review; a DEMATEL technique is then employed to understand the significant influence of each factor in the adoption of CE practices in SCs by dividing them into cause-effect groups. The findings show that PDFs such as training and knowledge sharing, employee participation, leadership and management plus strategic alignment are considered to be the most important significant factors in the adoption. The findings of this study will help industrial managers to understand the significance of the role of PDFs for enhancing business strategies; these findings can reduce the negative environmental impact in the adoption of CE practices in the SCs of SMEs
