No full textAbstract: Met de overkapping van de ring komen nieuwe opportuniteiten vrij. Voor de onderbouw, voor de bovenbouw, voor de aanliggende wijken. De uitdaging voor de bouwheer is om de \u2018grote verbinding\u2019 niet enkel vanuit een infrastructurele dimensie te benaderen, maar ook vanuit een maatschappelijk-culturele dimensie. De langdurigheid van de werf is hierbij een kwaliteit om processen van (culturele) toe-eigening tot stand te laten komen, lokale baten te genereren en een duurzaam draagvlak waar te maken eerder dan als een hinderende werf ervaren te worden.Het onderzoeksproject Cultural Brokerage bracht 123 (lokale) actoren en 67 internationale voorbeeldpraktijken van ruimtelijke en culturele toe-eigening in kaart, op basis van hun toepasbaarheid in een context van langdurige werf. Gerangschikt volgens alfabet zijn deze referenties integraal terug te vinden in bijlage, een selectie wordt behandeld in dit begeleidend rapport. De inventaris vertrekt vanuit de principes van het \u2018verzoenen\u2019, \u2018plaats maken\u2019 en \u2018memorie maken\u2019. Onder \u2018verzoenen\u2019 worden tijdelijke en gerichte acties verstaan die als doel hebben potenti\ueble knelpunten tussen werf en wijk te ontzenuwen en lokale noden te anticiperen. Het \u2018plaats maken\u2019 is gericht op het uitzetten van sociale en ruimtelijke ankers voor de toe-eigening van een continu veranderend landschap. De inventaris reikt daarnaast ook voorbeelden aan die een geheugenfunctie installeren als katalysator bij het totstandkomen van nieuwe identiteiten (memorie maken).Het rapport volgt de structuur van het gelopen traject met tussentijdse \u2018foresight sessions\u2019 waarin opdrachtgever Lantis met de Design Sciences Hub in dialoog trad. Frederik Vandyck co\uf6rdineerde het onderzoek in overleg met Alexander D\u2019Hooghe en Sven Verbruggen. Marc Jacobs, Marleen Goethals en Johan de Walsche brachten kennis aan vanuit hun respectievelijke achtergronden inzake \u2018memorie maken\u2019, \u2018verzoenen\u2019 en \u2018plaats maken\u2019
Model-Based Reinforcement Learning with State Abstraction: A Survey
No full textModel-based reinforcement learning methods are promising since they can increase sample efficiency while simultaneously improving generalizability. Learning can also be made more efficient through state abstraction, which delivers more compact models. Model-based reinforcement learning methods have been combined with learning abstract models to profit from both effects. We consider a wide range of state abstractions that have been covered in the literature, from straightforward state aggregation to deep learned representations, and sketch challenges that arise when combining model-based reinforcement learning with abstraction. Periodic mesoporous organosilicas for application as low-k dielectric materials
No full textIn semiconductor manufacturing, a low-k dielectric is a material with a small dielectric constant relative to silicon dioxide. In digital circuits, insulating dielectrics separate the conducting parts from one another. As components have scaled down and transistors have gotten closer and closer together, the insulating dielectrics have thinned to the point where charge builds up and crosstalk adversely affects the performance of the device. Replacing the silicon dioxide with a low-k dielectric of the same thickness reduces parasitic capacitance, enables faster switching speeds and reduces the power consumption. Besides the low-k property, the materials must have a good mechanical strength and they have to be hydrophobic, because adsorbed water increases the dielectric constant of the material. In this contribution, periodic mesoporous organosilicas are synthesized and evaluated for their low-k applicability. Firstly, the best synthesis conditions and stabilities of these PMOs in powder form are investigated. Secondly, the PMOs with the best properties are processed as thin films and the synthesis procedure is further optimized to obtain good quality porous films with ultra low dielectric constants. Finally, because closed pores are required for a good reliability of the low-k material, two pore sealing methods are developed and evaluated for their pore sealing efficiency
Application of ecosystem modelling for decision support in marine fisheries management in Vietnam
No full textThe Vietnamese marine ecosystem is under threat from a wide range of human activities including fisheries. These activities can change the structure and functioning of the marine ecosystem. To achieve more sustainable fisheries, an ecosystem approach to fisheries management (EAFM) is needed. Therefore, the overarching aim of this thesis is to develop scientific tools that can support EAFM in the Vietnamese marine ecosystem. To do so, assessing fishing impacts on ecosystem structure and functioning of the Vietnamese marine ecosystem were performed using different methodologies. First, a time-series assessment of the fisheries was carried out based on reconstructed catch data (landing) between 1981 and 2012. Then, based on the landing data, fishery-based indicators were used to assess the impacts of fishing on the structure of the entire Vietnamese marine ecosystem. Next, inverse models and Ecopath with Ecosim (EwE) model were used to evaluate fishing effects on fish communities. Of those, the inverse models were performed to investigate human-induced changes on the functioning of fish communities in the Vietnamese coastal ecosystem. The EwE modelling tool was used to predict ecosystem-level consequences of various fishing scenarios, taking into account the trophic interactions and ecological, social and economic constraints of the Vietnamese coastal fisheries. The present results demonstrated that the Vietnamese ecosystem has experienced changes and stress the need for a closer inspection of the ecological impact of fishing
