Nymphalis vaualbum
Nymphalis vaualbum ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775) —A solitary specimen was observed by Bretherton (1973) near Crno Lake on Mt. Durmitor. Interestingly, the author observed a specimen in the same area more than 30 years later, on July 3rd 2000.Published as part of Franeta, Filip, 2018, Checklist of the butterflies (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea) of Montenegro, pp. 128-148 in Zootaxa 4392 (1) on page 140, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4392.1.6, http://zenodo.org/record/119549

Polyommatus admetus
Polyommatus admetus (Esper, [1783]) —Rarely observed in Montenegro and only reported by Sijarić & Mihljević (1972), Weiss (1975) and Sijarić (1984) and represented by one UTM dot in the distribution maps of Jakšić (1988). The author observed several specimens in the foothills of Mt. Rumija from the end of June to mid July, in areas where its host plant Onobrychis sp. grows abundantly.Published as part of Franeta, Filip, 2018, Checklist of the butterflies (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea) of Montenegro, pp. 128-148 in Zootaxa 4392 (1) on page 140, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4392.1.6, http://zenodo.org/record/119549
Thecla betulae
Thecla betulae (Linnaeus, 1758) —Another rare butterfly in Montenegro, mentioned only by Bulić et al. (2011). The species was observed by the author in the vicinity of Nikšić. The lack of data might be explained by its late emergence, and the fact that it is a reluctant flier spending most of the time in the canopy. Consequently, it is probably more widespread in Montenegro, especially in the northern part.Published as part of Franeta, Filip, 2018, Checklist of the butterflies (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea) of Montenegro, pp. 128-148 in Zootaxa 4392 (1) on page 138, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4392.1.6, http://zenodo.org/record/119549

Hipparchia fatua Freyer 1844

Hipparchia fatua Freyer, 1844

—Reported only by Jakšić (1988) for the western part of Montenegro, on the border with Herzegovina. It is not clear from where this record originated since the author has not found any other paper mentioning the presence of this species in Montenegro. Its occurrence needs to be confirmed.
Published as part of Franeta, Filip, 2018, Checklist of the butterflies (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea) of Montenegro, pp. 128-148 in Zootaxa 4392 (1) on page 141, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4392.1.6, http://zenodo.org/record/1195491
Cupido osiris

Cupido osiris (Meigen, 1829)

—Only recently added to the fauna of Montenegro (Bulić et al. 2011; Švara et al. 2015), this species has been overlooked in the past and it might have a much wider distribution. The author recorded it from the surroundings of Bar and in the Prokletije mountain range.
Published as part of Franeta, Filip, 2018, Checklist of the butterflies (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea) of Montenegro, pp. 128-148 in Zootaxa 4392 (1) on page 138, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4392.1.6, http://zenodo.org/record/1195491
Hyponephele lupinus O. Costa 1836
Hyponephele lupinus (O. Costa, 1836) —Reported only by Sijarić (1984) for Mt. Orjen, where the butterfly was described as common. There were no later sightings of H. lupinus from Montenegro, thus the species’ presence needs to be confirmed.Published as part of Franeta, Filip, 2018, Checklist of the butterflies (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea) of Montenegro, pp. 128-148 in Zootaxa 4392 (1) on page 143, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4392.1.6, http://zenodo.org/record/119549
Kretania sephirus
Kretania sephirus (Frivaldsky, 1835) —There are no published records for this species in Montenegro, although it occurs in the neighbouring countries of Serbia (Jakšić et al. 2013) and Albania (Verovnik & Popović 2013). The author observed the species in the Kučka Krajina mountain range (Fig. 4.1 and 4.3), flying in meadows near Veruša on June 13th 2017, and in the company of Martin Gascoigne-Pees at Mt. Volušnica and on the Čakor pass (Fig. 4.2 and Fig. 5) in the Prokletije mountain range on July 10th and 13th 2017. The species was relatively common and males were seen mud puddling, while females remained near the host plant, Astragalus sp.Published as part of Franeta, Filip, 2018, Checklist of the butterflies (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea) of Montenegro, pp. 128-148 in Zootaxa 4392 (1) on page 138, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4392.1.6, http://zenodo.org/record/119549
Pyrgus andromedae
Pyrgus andromedae (Wallengren, 1853) —Reported only for the Durmitor massif (Sijarić 1984; Sijarić et al. 1984; Jakšić 1988), where it inhabits mountain meadows at high altitudes. It is reportedly very rare in Montenegro, however, despite the lack of data, and the species may well occur on other mountain ranges, particularly in the northern parts of the country.Published as part of Franeta, Filip, 2018, Checklist of the butterflies (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea) of Montenegro, pp. 128-148 in Zootaxa 4392 (1) on page 136, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4392.1.6, http://zenodo.org/record/119549
