The Early Bronze Age III and IVA1 at Tell Mardikh/Ebla and Its Region : Stratigraphic and Ceramic Sequences
The site of Tell Mardikh, ancient Ebla, in north inner Syria, had three periods of flourishing: in Early Bronze IVA, the age of the State Archives, Early Bronze IVB and Middle Bronze I–II, between ca. 2400 and 1600 BC. The volume by Agnese Vacca explores the phases of formation of this great urban culture between ca. 2750/2700 and 2450 BC (EB III–IVA1) by means of an accurate and in-depth analysis of stratigraphy, architecture, ceramic materials and small finds.
The analysis was carried out in part on the field, but it is also the brilliant result of a painstaking work of study of excavation records and files from the archives of the Ebla Excavation, which allowed the author to collect consistent evidence from individual buildings – like Building G2 and Building G5 – and to relate it with scattered evidence from other sectors of the town, leading to the reconstruction of a coherent picture of pre-Palace G phases. As concerns specifically the ceramic repertory, Vacca, starting with the evidence from Ebla, enlarges her analysis, singling out a specific pottery horizon of the Ebla region, whose relations with other contemporary assemblages in the Northern Levant are presented in detail. The resulting picture from Ebla and its region has been related with the contemporary evidence from the Northern Levant and Upper Mesopotamia and has been framed in the general background of the process of state formation in this very important region of the ancient Near East
The Peptide Transporters of teleost fish, an emerging model in translational research: functional characterization and comparative study of SLC15A1a (PepT1a) and SLC15A1b (PepT1b) transporters
Translational research is the process that applies knowledge from basic biology to techniques and devices to solve critical medical issues. The aim of basic and translational research is to identify specific cellular and animal models for every single process, physiological or pathological, under study. To find out the adequate animal model, one of the best approaches is to study the orthologues of human genes in different species. The increase in the number of fully sequenced genomes offers important advances in comparative genomics and in translational research. The finding that in zebrafish genome there are orthologues for most human genes is particularly important. In fact, zebrafish are for many aspects an outstanding model organism for high throughput phenotyping and modeling human disease and disorders. The aim of the research work of this thesis is to understand and compare the function of proteins belonging to the SoLute Carrier family 15 member A1 (PepT1) in different fish orthologues. The intestinal transporter PepT1 represents a major route of peptides and drug intake. Besides the important role of PepT1 in the nutrient uptake and sensing, the study of the functional properties of this transporter is of great importance not only for the involvement in pathological states, but also for its double role in therapeutic approaches. Recently, PepT1 has become an attractive target for potential therapeutic models for developing and enhancing drug-delivery systems
Virtual Element Method for Second Order Elliptic Eigenvalue Problems
We study the virtual element approximation of elliptic eigenvalue problems. The main result of the article states that the virtual element method provides an optimal-order approximation of the eigenmodes. A wide set of numerical tests confirm the theoretical analysi
punti. Il questionario è stato applicato a 200 studenti
universitari fuori sede (81 maschi e 119 femmine; età
all'ambiente fisico ed a difficoltà pratiche. I fattori spiegano
sull'argomento. Pertanto, i risultati ottenuti incoraggiano
il proseguimento delle procedure di convalida

Sulphur vs NH Group: Effects on the CO2 Electroreduction Capability of Phenylenediamine-Cp Cobalt Complexes
The cobalt complex (I) with cyclopentadienyl and 2-aminothiophenolate ligands was investigated as a homogeneous catalyst for electrochemical CO2 reduction. By comparing its behavior with an analogous complex with the phenylenediamine (II), the effect of sulfur atom as a substituent has been evaluated. As a result, a positive shift of the reduction potential and the reversibility of the corresponding redox process have been observed, also suggesting a higher stability of the compound with sulfur. Under anhydrous conditions, complex I showed a higher current enhancement in the presence of CO2 (9.41) in comparison with II (4.12). Moreover, the presence of only one -NH group in I explained the difference in the observed increases on the catalytic activity toward CO2 due to the presence of water, with current enhancements of 22.73 and 24.40 for I and II, respectively. DFT calculations confirmed the effect of sulfur on the lowering of the energy of the frontier orbitals of I, highlighted by electrochemical measurements. Furthermore, the condensed Fukui function f − values agreed very well with the current enhancement observed in the absence of water
Development of roll-waves in power-law fluids with non-uniform initial conditions
This paper investigates the spatial evolution of a disturbance in an open-channel flow of a power-law fluid at non-uniform accelerated and decelerated
initial profiles, up to the occurrence of roll-waves in mild and steep slope channels. Both theoretical and numerical analyses are applied to the depthaveraged
continuity and momentum conservation equations, deduced from the von Kármán’s integral method. For the theoretical investigation, the
nonlinear near-front expansion technique was applied. Then, the full nonlinear problem in its conservative formulation was numerically solved.
Independently of the rheology of the flowing medium, non-uniform initial conditions strongly influence the perturbation celerity, the disturbance
evolution and the roll-wave development. For mild slope channels, an initially decelerated profile of shear-thinning fluids has a stabilizing effect,
while the opposite is found for accelerated profiles. For shear-thickening fluids, only the stabilizing effect caused by a decelerated profile is observed.
In steep slope channels, independently of the fluid rheology, decelerated initial conditions promote roll-wave occurrence, while accelerated conditions
inhibit the perturbation growth. Although experimental verifications are needed, the present results have to be properly accounted for in defining
roll-wave prediction methods and in assigning appropriate boundary conditions to enhance or to reduce their formation
