    This paper describes design and test of a new impedance-measurement system for nonlinear devices that exhibits a seven-decade range and works down to a frequency of 0.01 Hz. The system is specifically designed for electrochemical measurements, but the proposed architecture can be employed in many other fields where flexible signal generation and analysis are required. The system employs an unconventional signal generator based on two pulsewidth modulation (PWM) oscillators and an autocalibration system that allows uncertainties of less than 3% to be obtained over a range of 1 kΩ to 100 GΩ.     Proteins perform numerous tasks within living organisms, some act as structural support for cells and tissues, others are transporters of non-soluble molecules in water and others, such as lysozyme, are involved in defensive mechanisms against bacterial attacks. The growing ease of obtaining proteins in substantial quantities and purity, by means of increasingly sophisticated bio-engineering techniques (1), may lead to their use in pharmaceutical formulations as drug delivery mechanisms or in food as preservatives (2). However, given the chemical nature of these macromolecules, they are vulnerable to oxidative attacks that would lead to their denaturing resulting in loss of activity. Moreover, some of these, such as lysozyme, once denatured, can give rise to aggregation leading to the onset of amyloidogenic diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and transmissible spongiform encephalopathies. The proteins that cause these diseases have no common characteristics in their native state, but once converted into amyloid fibrils they have many analogies (3). The factors that induce the formation of aggregates remain obscure; a hypothesis is the malfunctioning of mechanisms that govern the folding of proteins and the elimination of erroneously folded ones, or even oxidative stress phenomena caused by a malfunction of superoxide dismutase mutation. Therefore, it is vital to be able to prevent the oxidation of these enzymes in order to maintain their activity unaltered before they can be used on a large scale. The aim of this study is to investigate, through Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, the interaction between a protein with potential industrial applications (lysozyme), with a molecule with known antioxidant potential, the catechin, which has no compatibility issues with the human body being a substance naturally occurring in numerous foods of natural origin. Subsequently, in order to verify the protective effect of catechin on the protein, the effect of an oxidizing system on lysozyme was assessed both in the absence and the presence of catechin. Finally, in order to estimate the magnitude of such protection, a comparison with another known antioxidant system, the ascorbic acid (4), has been carried out. The study begins with the chemico-physical characterization of the molecules employing advanced spectroscopic techniques such as 1H-1H COSY, TOCSY, NOESY and 1H-13C HSQC and HMBC bidimensional experiments as well DOSY. These experiments aim to evaluate the spatial structure and arrangement of isolated molecules, as well as evaluate their translational mobility. The study proceeds with the evaluation of the interaction based on the variation of the ligand self-diffusion coefficient, is continued by determining the binding constant by acquiring spectra at different concentration ratios and finally identifying the interaction site on the protein.     Gramatology as a positive science: Maurizio Ferrari\u27s Derrida Reception Maurizio Ferraris is developing a realist ontology that severely criticizes the main theses of postmodernity for philosophical, ethical, and political reasons. Paradoxically, however, Derrida plays an important role in his thinking. By distinguishing natural objects from ideal objects and, ultimately, from social objects, the author shows that, rather than a criticism of Derrida, Ferraris’ realist ontology aims to limit Derridean thought to the field of social objects, which are above all written and inscribed objects. Through arche-writing and the theory of the trace, Ferraris demonstrates that writing carries the social, because the trace exists only insofar as it is recognized and therefore in a relation. In this way, Derrida\u27s philosophy finds itself at the heart of a field from which we might have thought it had been excluded: contemporary realist ontology

    Adapting Active Learning in Presence to Distance Education: Effective Strategies from Four Cases in Higher Design Education

    From 2020, education had to rapidly adapt to the massive employment of distance learning. The adaptation of design teaching at the university level seemed to be particularly challenging because of its orientation towards project-based and active learning. Design students engage in learning by doing, being supported by the interrelation with teachers and classmates within the classroom. This approach is rooted in art and craft teaching, historically hinged on studio pedagogy where the direct teacher-learner relationship is a key element of learning. Besides, design education strongly relies on peer learning, which naturally occurs within the physical space. Also, design learners deal with concepts related to the perception of forms, colors and spaces, which can be critical when mediated by a screen. All these disciplinary and relational implications defy design teachers to adapt to distance learning. Through action research, this paper presents four design-related courses that were adapted to distance learning. Being originally in presence, at different programme levels (i.e. Bachelor, MSc), in two universities and countries (i.e. Politecnico di Milano, Italy; Universidad Diego Portales, Chile), these courses implemented different teaching strategies that make them succeed in keeping the active learning approach. They possibly achieved even better results than in the previous years, in terms of participation, engagement and outcomes. An analysis of the four courses, the teaching strategies implemented and results are described, with the aim of providing aid to teachers from project disciplines, for the adaptation to distance learning of courses with a strong focus on practice and presence
