    Ethnic identity, political identity and ethnic conflict: simulating the effect of congruence between the two identities on ethnic violence and conflict

    This thesis outlines and presents an alternative hypothetical process to the emergence of ethnic conflict. Ethnic conflicts, rather than being dependent upon pre-existing 'ancient hatreds', are instead the result of a congruence between ethnic and political identity which grants individuals the ability to use ethnicity to identify and eliminate political threats. This hypothesis is formed by the examination of three case studies of ethnic conflict: Lebanon, Northern Ireland and Croatia. This hypothesis is then formalised and tested using an agent based simulation in which agent interactions are dependent upon ethnic and political identity and the congruence between the two. As predicted there was a strong positive correlation between how accurately ethnic identity reflected political identity and the level of ethnically motivated violence in the simulation, although the relationship was not linear. Furthermore the effect of a shift in congruence was found to be roughly comparable to the effect of initialising agents with a moderate level of pre-existing ethnic antagonism

    Electronic commerce or commonly known as e-commerce is a trading activity carried out by sellers and buyers to offer or buy goods or services electronically using electronic payments. With e-commerce, it will certainly facilitate transactions because sellers and buyers do not need to meet in person, and the prices offered are cheaper because sellers do not need to pay rent. With the ease of this transaction, it certainly adds to the competition in the business because the target market is wider. Competition in business is an unavoidable part, now competition in business is getting tougher in various aspects both in terms of production, service and marketing. Many companies want to develop and their products are known by the public and potential buyers, including PT. Glucksindo Makmur, which until now is still using the offline marketing system, namely sales looking for customers from one place to another to offer products. So that an electronic-based sales system is needed. The software used to design this application are PHP, MySQL, and Laravel Framework. The method used in this test is UAT. The results of this study are the presence of an E-Commerce system that can assist customers in placing orders online, knowing information on the type of product they want to buy and a clear and complete company profile. This research has succeeded in implementing the Laravel framework in designing web-based E-Commerce.Perdagangan elektronik atau yang biasa dikenal dengan e-commerce merupakan suatu aktivitas perdagangan yang dilakukan penjual dan pembeli untuk menawarkan atau membeli barang maupun jasa secara elektronik menggunakan pembayaran elektronik. Dengan adanya e-commerce tentunya akan memudahkan transaksi karena penjual dan pembeli tidak perlu bertemu secara langsung, dan harga yang ditawarkan lebih murah karena penjual tidak perlu membayar sewa tempat. Dengan kemudahan transkasi ini tentunya menambah persaingan dalam bisnis karena target pasarnya lebih luas. Persaingan dalam bisnis menjadi bagian yang tidak dapat di hindari, kini persaingan dalam bisnis semakin ketat dalam berbagai aspek baik dalam hal produksi, pelayanan dan pemasaran. Banyak perusahaan yang ingin berkembang dan produk mereka lebih di kenal lagi oleh masyarakat dan calon pembeli, tidak terkecuali PT. Glucksindo Makmur yang sampai saat ini masih menggunakan sistem offline marketing yaitu sales mencari customer dari satu tempat ke tempat lainnya untuk menawarkan produk. Sehingga sistem penjualan berbasis elektronik diperlukan. Software yang digunakan untuk merancang aplikasi ini yaitu PHP, MySQL, dan Framework Laravel. Metode yang digunakan dalam pengujian ini yaitu UAT. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah hadirnya sistem E-Commerce yang dapat membantu customer dalam melakukan pemesanan secara online, mengetahui informasi jenis produk yang ingin di beli dan profil perusahaan secara jelas dan lengkap. The evolution of the system is usually governed by a set of di↵erential equations, so one concrete state of the system is, in fact, an element of an infinite dimensional space. In the presented thesis we show that the EnKF is well defined on a infinite dimensional separable Hilbert space if a data noise is a weak random variable with a covariance bounded from below. We also show that this condition is su cient for the 3DVAR and the Bayesian filtering to be well posed. Additionally, we extend the already known fact that the EnKF converges to the Kalman filter in a finite dimension, and prove that a similar statement holds even in a infinite dimension. Asimilace dat je sekvenční odhad stavu chaotického dynamického systému, jehož vývoj v čase je řízen soustavou diferenciálních rovnic. Z těchto důvodů je rozumné předpokládat, že dimenze stavu tohoto systému je nekonečná. V předložené práci je dokázáno, že je možné použít EnKF i když je systém definován na nekonečně rozměrném separabilním Hilbertově prostoru, a to za předpokladu, že šum v pozorováních je pouze slabá náhodná veličina se zdola omezenou kovariancí. Je též ukázáno, že za splnění těchto předpokladů je možné použít i jiné asimilační metody a to 3DVAR a Bayesovský filtr. Specifically, we prepared particles of cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4) and sodium yttrium fluoride (NaYF4) doped by Yb3+ a Er3+ from corresponding nitrates in the system of water - ethanol - oleic acid, and in modified systems. By this method, it is possible to prepare particles of narrow size distribution (monodisperse particles). Pre- pared particles of ferrite show superparamagnetism and particles of NaYF4 up-conversion, i.e. conversion of infrared (980 nm) to visible light. The certified thesis is available in the Institute Archives and Special Collections.This thesis describes the design, implementation, and benchmarking of a software prototype of EFECT [EFECT], a new certificate scheme that handles revocation more gracefully than do current schemes. This prototype includes a client browser, a certificate verification tree library, and a directory server. The thesis includes analysis, both mathematical and empirical, to determine the optimal values of EFECT's parameters in terms of both speed and space. Finally, the thesis includes a benchmark comparison of the optimized EFECT and a comparable X.509 [X509] system.     Muscarinic receptors in the regulation of vascular perfusion mechanisms in the rat and sheep salivary glands Author: Ondřej Soukup Supervisor: Gunnar Tobin, Sahgrenska Academy,Goteborg University, Sweden Formal supervisor: Ivan Tilšer, Faculty of Pharmacy, Charles University, Czech Republic This study constists of the functional experiments, the assesment of VIP in plasma and the immunohistochemistry. Functional experiments include investigation of muscarinic receptors subtypes, their occurence and function in the rat carotid artery and jugular vein using tissue bath and muscarinic receptors agonist (carbachol) and antagonists ( pirenzepine, methoctramine, 4-DAMP). Assesment of VIP was done in the sheep plasma samples collected during 8 Hz stimulation of chorda lingual using ELISA. Immunohistochemistry of rat carotid artery and jugular vein was done using specific muscarinic antibodies and evaluated udner the fluorescence microscope. Statistical significance was determined by Student's t-test for paired data. ANOVA test in cases of multiple comparisons and post-hoc test according to Bonferoni were applied. P-values of 0.05 or less were regarded as statistically significant. The results show that muscarinic receptors have direct and indirect effect on vessels affecting the blood flow over the..

    'Dead Letters': Impersonality and the Mourning of World Literature in Ivan Vladislavić's <I>Double Negative

    In his 2010 novel, Double Negative, South African author Ivan Vladislavić undertakes an ethico-political and literary project of impersonality. Impersonality is understood in four interrelated ways: as an ethos characterized by a paradoxically passionate indifference; as an operation of depersonalisation transforming individuated persons into eventalized singularities; as a poetics, employing such literary techniques as affectless prose or the deconstruction of realist regimes of character; and as an ontological indeterminacy, whereby something is simultaneously posited and subtracted or in which binaries are rendered indeterminate. These general features of impersonality become accentuated and frustrated under historical conditions of postcolonialism. In the case of Double Negative, impersonality falls prey to two dilemmas: the dilemma of postcolonial publicity and that of postcolonial mourning under conditions of rampant neoliberalism. The essay explores the novel's (partial) solutions to these dilemmas and concludes by suggesting that world literature might itself be conceived as a work – and object – of mourning
