No full textIl volume raccoglie 16 scritti e interventi della teorica e attivista femminista Liana Borghi, scritti o pubblicati tra il 1996 e il 2019, con ampia introduzione all'autrice da parte dei tre curatori. Il lavoro culturale e politico di Liana Borghi, in relazione stretta con il panorama anglofono dei femminismi contemporanei, delle teorie queer e del nuovo materialismo, è fondamentale per capire in che modo anche in Italia si è sviluppato un paradigma femminista e queer, e poi transfemminista. Il volume sceglie di concentrarsi sugli scritti a tema letterario di Liana Borghi, sempre animati da una tensione etica e politica, oltre che teorica. La curatela ha implicato un laborioso studio di tutta la bibliografia di Borghi, la selezione e la ricognizione di testi, alcuni dei quali in differenti varianti, oppure in versioni sia inglesi che italiane. I saggi sono stati annotati e quando necessario emendati, in modo da offrire uno strumento accurato per lo studio di questa studiosa, docente di Letteratura angloamericana per lunghi anni a Firenze, e inserita in reti di studio femministe e di studi di genere europei e internazionali

Sex-Specific Transcriptome Differences in Substantia Nigra Tissue: A Meta-Analysis of Parkinson's Disease Data
Full text linkParkinson's disease (PD) is one of the most common progressive neurodegenerative diseases. Clinical and epidemiological studies indicate that sex differences, as well as genetic components and ageing, can influence the prevalence, age at onset and symptomatology of PD. This study undertook a systematic meta-analysis of substantia nigra microarray data using the Transcriptome Mapper (TRAM) software to integrate and normalize a total of 10 suitable datasets from multiple sources. Four different analyses were performed according to default parameters, to better define the segments differentially expressed between PD patients and healthy controls, when comparing men and women data sets. The results suggest a possible regulation of specific sex-biased systems in PD susceptibility. TRAM software allowed us to highlight the different activation of some genomic regions and loci involved in molecular pathways related to neurodegeneration and neuroinflammatory mechanisms
AI that Matters:A Feminist Approach to the Study of Intelligent Machines
Full text linkn this chapter, Drage and Frabetti argue that computer code uses data to not only make statements about the world but also bring that world into existence. Drawing on the concept of performativity, arguably gender studies’ best-known export, they explain why we must view artificial intelligence (AI) as performative to understand how it genders and racialises populations even when it appears to be ‘unbiased’ or correctly functioning. In its reading of neural networks, ‘AI that Matters: A Feminist Approach to the Study of Intelligent Machines’ demonstrates that Facial Detection and Recognition Technologies and Automatic Gender Recognition never objectively identify or recognise a person (or their gender), as they claim to do. Instead, drawing on work by Judith Butler and Karen Barad, they merely comment on and annotate a person’s body in accordance with dominant social rules and perspectives. They present this framing as an intervention into misguided attempts to treat discrimination as an error that can be corrected by a better functioning machine
