Greedy walk on the real line

    No full text
We consider a self-interacting process described in terms of a singleserver system with service stations at each point of the real line. The customer arrivals are given by a Poisson point processes on the space–time half plane. The server adopts a greedy routing mechanism, traveling toward the nearest customer, and ignoring new arrivals while in transit. We study the trajectories of the server and show that its asymptotic position diverges logarithmically in time.Fil: Foss, Sergey. Heriot-Watt University; Reino UnidoFil: Trivellato Rolla, Leonardo. Sergey Witte and his Foreign Investment Policy in the studies by English-speaking scholars

    No full text
. The article discusses the development of the interest of English-speaking historians in the foreign investment policy of Sergey Witte. The paper also examines the role of the Secret Memorandum of Sergey Wittein the understanding of the foreign investment in the Russian economy. The author shows that Russian and English-speaking historians, despite the political upheavals of the 20th century, were engaged in a scholarly conversation in their discussion of the subject

Harris ergodicity of a Split Transmission Control Protocol

    No full text
Additive-increase multiplicative-decrease transmission control protocols are well known and have been studied in numerous papers. It is significantly more difficult to study systems of interacting protocols. We consider a queueing system where both the input intensity and the service intensity follow TCP protocols and the dynamics of the latter depends on both intensities. This type of stochastic system was proposed by Baccelli, Carofiglio and Foss in 2009, who have proved the positive recurrence of the underlying Markov chain and studied a number of statistical properties of the model. In this paper, we introduce a more general stochastic model and prove a stronger statement: the Harris ergodicity of the corresponding Markov chain

    An Overview of Economics

I assume that your objective of ’Economics 101’ is to try to understand how the economy works instead of going through an economic curriculum. If so you are guaranteed to have fun. I personally undertook a similar journey ten years back. I would say that it is better to understand the principles of economics and then try to understand the economy/economic situation of any given country. My recommendations (for BSc students and everyone who is interested in economics101) are based on my own readings: Sloman’s ”Essentials of economics;” Gwartney et al. ”Economics: Private Public Choice;” Jesus Huerta de Soto’s ”The Austrian School: Market Order and Entrepreneurial Creativity;” Rodrik’s ”Economics Rules;” Foley’s ”Adam’s fallacy: a guide to economic theology;” De Soto’s ”The mystery of capital: Why capitalism triumphs in the West and fails everywhere else;” Harford’s ”The Undercover Economist;” Levitt and Dubner’s ”Freakonomics.”This Paper should not be reported as representing the views of Central Bank of Armenia. The views in this paper are those of the author and should not be interpreted as those of Central Bank of Armenia

Plato’s Gorgius: an attempt to an axiological commentary

    No full text
In his new paper Sergey S. Avanesov (Tomsk State University) analyses the concepts of ‘intermediate’ being, ‘preference’ and the hierarchy of values developed in Plato’s dialogue against the background of Classical moral philosophy. This study of Ancient axiology continues a previous article by the same author, also published in this journal (vol. I, issue 2)

Limit theorems for two classes of Markov processes

    No full text
The thesis includes two Parts that analyse the asymptotic behaviour of two multicomponent stochastic processes. In both cases, the components of the processes are highly dependent, however dynamics of two processes are signi cantly di erent. Part I is devoted to the study of hierarchical models with local dependence: behaviour of the (i + 1)'st component is in uenced by the i'th component only. These processes are either null-recurrent or transient and, therefore, do not possess limiting distributions. We analyse the structure of these processes and obtain limit theorems under normalisation. Part II deals with another type of models that arise in the neural systems. We consider symmetric models: any permutation of the coordinates has the same type of dynamics. We analyse the structure of these processes and conditions for positive recurrence

Power Law Condition for Stability of Poisson Hail

    No full text
The Poisson hail model is a space-time stochastic system introduced by Baccelli and Foss (J Appl Prob 48A:343-366, 2011) whose stability condition is nonobvious owing to the fact that it is spatially infinite. Hailstones arrive at random points of time and are placed in random positions of space. Upon arrival, if not prevented by previously accumulated stones, a stone starts melting at unit rate. When the stone sizes have exponential tails, then stability conditions exist. In this paper, we look at heavy tailed stone sizes and prove that the system can be stabilized when the rate of arrivals is sufficiently small. We also show that the stability condition is, in a weak sense, optimal. We use techniques and ideas from greedy lattice animals

Modern creator in Sergey Samsonov\u27s novel The Kamlayev Anomaly

    No full text
The article is devoted to the novel of Sergey Samsonov – The Kamlayev Anomaly. The focus is on the issue of a creative man and his creations. The author maximizes the notion of creative work, going beyond the limits of the sphere of music and bringing it to the sphere of life itself. Samsonov is trying to analyze the state of being of the 21st century human and the cause of human spiritual crisis. Samsonov\u27s writing is considered in the context of the new realism. Author\u27s creative method is also compared with the debatable concept of metamodermism
