Hyper-dependence, hyper-ageing properties and analogies between them: a semigroup-based approach

    No full text
In previous papers, evolution of dependence and ageing, for vectors of non-negative random variables, have been separately considered. Some analogies between the two evolutions emerge however in those studies. In the present paper, we propose a unified approach, based on semigroup arguments, explaining the origin of such analogies and relations among properties of stochastic dependence and ageing

    Threshold copulas and positive dependence

Starting with a notion of positive dependence View the MathML source and with the family of the lower threshold copulas Ct associated with a bivariate distribution having copula C, we define different notions of positive dependence for C, reflecting the dependence properties of the copulas Ct for some t. Then, we analyze some structural aspects of lower threshold copulas and of the given definitions. Furthermore we consider several specific cases arising from relevant special choices of View the MathML source (e.g., PQD, LTD, TP2 and PLR). Our analysis, in particular, allows us to present a number of relevant examples and counter-examples, which can be useful in the study of the tail dependence for a bivariate distribution

Chemoselective synthesis of N-protected alkoxyprolines under specific solvation conditions

N-Protected hydroxyprolines (Hyp) were transformed chemoselectively into alkoxyproline derivatives by direct O-alkylation. The starting Hyp was transformed into the corresponding dianion in a mixture of dimethyl sulfoxide and tetrahydrofuran (1:16 v/v) as solvent. Under these conditions, the carboxy-anion showed reduced nucleophilicity because it was specifically solvated, and the more reactive oxy-anion was selectively alkylated. N-Protected trans-4-alkoxy-, cis-4-alkoxy- and trans-3-alkoxyprolines were thus obtained in a single step in very high overall yields and with complete stability of the stereogenic center configuration

Aesthetic recovery of the smile: a new integrated orthodontic-conservative method|Recupero estetico e funzionale del sorriso: un nuovo metodo ortodontico-conservativo integrato

OBJECTIVES The materials available today allow to rehabilitate, in a non-invasive way, teeth affected by serious imperfections. Often an orthodontic preparation is useful and, thanks to the use of clear aligners, is predictable and comfortable. A preliminary set-up offers to the clinician and patient an intuitive and understandable view of the expected final result. MATERIALS AND METHODS The new method proposed in the present work allows to integrate the set-up with the mokeup technique, simulating the aesthetic components of the planned restoration, in all details. RESULTS The clinical case presented, step by step, demonstrates the predictability and clinical reliability of the procedure. CONCLUSIONS The final clinical result coincides with the initial mock-up, demonstrating that the proposed method has proved to be predictable and reliable. The correct execution of the technique is rigorously customized and its success is operator-dependent. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The visualization of the objectives of the treatment constitutes a decisive support for the clinician and provides the patient the possibility of benefiting from an immediate improvement by making it easier for him to accept a treatment plan that also includes an orthodontic phase, which potentially lengthens the treatment but makes the realization more conservative
