Forner-Alcaide 5 and Forner-Alcaide 13: Two New Citrus Rootstocks Released in Spain
No full textThe search for new citrus rootstocks with better performance than those currently used is the major aim of the citrus industry in many countries. New diseases, the spread of known diseases, and citrus culture under different environmental conditions force the demand for new rootstocks. Carrizo citrange [Citrus sinensis (L.) Osb. x Poncirus trifoliata (L.) Raf.], the most used rootstock in Spain, frequently shows iron chlorosis and salinity problems. Other less common rootstocks, such as Cleopatra mandarin (C. reshniHort. ex Tan.), C. volkameriana Ten. & Pasq., Swingle citrumelo (C. paradisi Macf. x P. trifoliata), and C. macrophylla Wester, do not conveniently solve the problems. Forner-Alcaide 5 (F-A 5) and Forner-Alcaide 13 (F-A 13) are two interspecific hybrids obtained through traditional hybridization by the senior author in a program for breeding citrus rootstocks at the Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Agrarias (IVIA) in Moncada (Valencia), Spain. The goals of the breeding program were to obtain new rootstocks tolerant to CTV, salinity, and lime-induced chlorosis and resistant to Phytophthora sp. un soggiorno molto intenso, dedicato in parte alla vita mondana, ma nel
quale trovarono posto anche l’osservazione di preziose iscrizioni antiche e lo
studio di manoscritti latori d’opere d’alta erudizione. I codici recuperati fra le
indicazioni della schedina di lavoro del Maffei presentano testi che, tutti, trovano
una loro precisa giustificazione fra le letture del dotto veronese. Le opere
sopra ricordate ben si collocano fra i variegati interessi maffeiani e contribuiscono
a illustrarne la profondità e l’ampiezza: essi infatti, anche se talvolta
prendevano spunto da problemi di storia locale, veneta o veronese, subito trovavano
una loro proiezione in un universo più vasto ed elevato, nutrito da

No full textThe journals of Giovanni Lami and Angelo Calogerà are well known and studied. The private correspondence between the two scholars sheds new light on the cultural mediation work carried out by the two journalists with their journalistic enterprises. It was a complex mediation, not only between Italian Catholic and Transalpine Protestant culture, but also between pro-Jansenists and Jesuit supporters within a Catholic and Italian context. Lami and Calogerà in their journalistic activity found original solutions to support the authority of their newspapers. The use of the correspondence of two of the most important Italian eighteenth-century journalists allows us to better evaluate the line of their periodicals and to understand the reasons for some editorial choices. Calogerà’s position with regard to transalpine literature and periodicals, the subject of his first journalistic enterprises, is particularly interesting

No full textWe have studied tolerance to iron chlorosis of four citrus seedling rootstocks: the two hybrids Forner-Alcaide 5 (F-A 5) and Forner-Alcaide 13 (F-A 13), as well as their parents [Cleoptra mandarin (Citrus reshni Hort. ex Tan.) and Poncirus trifoliata (L.) Raf.]. Six-month-old potted plants were grown in four different iron concentrations (0, 9, 18 and 36 square M) and leaf iron content, dry weight, total chlorophyll content, catalase activity and root ferric chelate reductase (FCR) activity were measured after 60 days. F-A 5 had the highest FCR activity, total chlorophyll content, total dry weight and iron content in roots. P. trifoliata, a genus susceptible to iron chlorosis, showed the lowest total chlorophyll content, FCR activity and total dry weight. F-A 5 is an iron-chlorosis-tolerant rootstock which may be suitable for use in soils that cause this problem

Costantini era un autore sincero, ispirato da un suo genuino buon senso; gli mancava l’ars, ma era sicuro di una sua chiara verità; era un cattolico attento alle istanze dell’illuminismo, si potrebbe dire, nei fatti, perché, al di là d’ogni ideologia, vedeva in modo pragmatico il progresso civile non solo nella stabilità dell’antico regime e nel rafforzamento dei valori religiosi, ma soprattutto nel bene di quell’umanità d’umile condizione alla quale egli pur guardava con occhio severo. Nella sua ottica, la ricerca della verità e la sua diffusione tramite le belle lettere eran parte di questo progresso

No full textThere are many positive aspects that still make interesting the events that led to the print of the Quadriregio in 1725. This edition was not the result of marginal and local cultural interests, but of a cultural vision that was fully integrated into the Italian and European debate. The attention to the ecdotic problems shown by the promoters of the edition is not less than that found in the most renowned Italian scholars such as Ludovico Antonio Muratori. Interesting are the linguistic notes of Canneti that promotes the acceptance of new words in the Tuscan literary tradition, and the insistence, both of Canneti and of Muratori, on the moral purpose of their action as editors. The Dissertation of Canneti and the edition of the Quadriregio are therefore re-evaluated as non-secondary stages of the eighteenth-century literary history

Polemiche intorno a Muratori nell'epistolario Lami-Calogerà
No full texti riferimenti a Muratori nel carteggio Calogerà-Lami si distribuiscono su un lasso di tempo ampio, che non si interrompe con il 1750. Da essi emerge il riconoscimento della statura intellettuale e dell’enorme eredità culturale lasciata dal Modenese. Muratori è lodato per l’erudizione solidissima che è, però, anche l’origine di una libertà di pensiero tanto ampia da suscitare qualche disappunto in Calogerà e in Lami. Una libertà che non nasceva da prese di posizione momentanee e velleitarie, frutto delle convenienze del momento, ma dall’attenta valutazione di fonti che gli palesavano fatti e dati incontestabili
