Ocular drift along the mental number line
We examined the spontaneous association between numbers and space by documenting attention deployment and the time course of associated spatial-numerical mapping with and without overt oculomotor responses. In Experiment 1, participants maintained central fixation while listening to number names. In Experiment 2, they made horizontal target-direct saccades following auditory number presentation. In both experiments, we continuously measured spontaneous ocular drift in horizontal space during and after number presentation. Experiment 2 also measured visual-probe-directed saccades following number presentation. Reliable ocular drift congruent with a horizontal mental number line emerged during and after number presentation in both experiments. Our results provide new evidence for the implicit and automatic nature of the oculomotor resonance effect associated with the horizontal spatial-numerical mapping mechanism

I had long sought a copy of Fischer's outstanding work and was lucky to find it at an unusual price. As Bodemann's listing indicates, Fischer handles some fifty-five fables from across the twelve books. There is a larger frontispiece and then there are eighty-six beginning and ending illustrations, half a page at their largest. They are extremely stylized. Fine linear etchings, with figures often created without any interruption in the line, but the line does not give the figure's circumference but rather suggests characteristic body elements and binds these to each other. I believe that the lead set of illustrations, with texts, is on Velin du Marais, with a separate set without text on Chine. Compare with the set being offered now for $940. My prizes go to these outstanding illustrations: CW, DS, FK, DW, FC, FM, FS, GA, LM, The Old Cat and the Young Mouse, and The Stag in the Pool. I scanned a copy of each of those. The construction of Karen Karnak: The multi-author-function
This thesis is situated within the comparatively recent developments of Web 2.0 and the emergence of interactive WikiMedia, and explores the mode of authorship within a Read/Write culture compared to that of a Read/Only tradition. The hypothesis of this study is that the role of the audience has become merged with the author, and as such, represents new functions and attributes, distinct from a more conventional concept of authorship, in which the roles of audience and author are more separate. Read/Write and participatory culture, as defined by this study, is focused on collaboration, and includes the influences of D.I.Y. culture, Open-Source practices and the production of text by multiple authors. Multi-authorship presents a re-thinking of several concepts which support the notion of the individual author, since the focus of multi-authorship is not on attribution and ownership of a finished text, but on the continued malleability of a text. Modes of multi-authorship, demonstrated in the use of the pseudonyms Alan Smithee and Karen Eliot, represent declarative authors whose names signify multiple origins, whilst concurrently indicating a distinct body of work. The function of these names form an important context to this study, since primary research involves the construction of an experimental mode of multi-authorship utilising WikiMedia technology and the interaction of thirty nine participants, who are invited to create a body of work under the collective pseudonym Karen Karnak. The data generated by this experiment is analysed using aspects of Michel Foucault's author-function to identify and determine power structures inherent in the WikiMedia context. The interplay of power structures, including concepts such as identity, ownership and the body of work, affect the resulting mode of authorship and contribute to the construction of Karen Karnak, suggesting further areas of research into the emerging multi-author

A promising preparation method for highly active cobalt based Fischer-Tropsch catalysts supported on stabilized Al2O3
The effectiveness of the addition of diethylene glycol (DEG) to the impregnating solution in synthesizing highly dispersed Co-based catalysts supported on stabilized alumina (Al2O3(s)) is investigated. Both the properties and catalytic performance in the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) of the material obtained using DEG (CoDEG/Al2O3(s)) are compared with those of a catalyst with the same formulation but prepared without the addition of DEG in the impregnating solution (Co/Al2O3(s)). When using Co-nitrate as Co-precursor, the addition of DEG leads to a very fast and exothermic decomposition of Co-nitrate into Co oxides during the calcination step. This prevents the agglomeration of Co3O4particles, thus generating highly dispersed Co3O4crystallites on the support. In line with the decrease of the Co3O4crystallites size, the CoDEG/Al2O3(s)catalyst is more difficult to reduce than the Co/Al2O3(s)catalyst. As a result, the metallic surface of the two catalysts is very similar. Nonetheless, when tested in the FTS, the CoDEG/Al2O3(s)catalyst shows CO conversion higher than the Co/Al2O3(s)sample. This is attributed to the high intrinsic activity (i.e. high Turnover Frequency, TOF) of the small Co0crystallites of the CoDEG/Al2O3(s)catalyst. We explain this result assuming that the combustion phenomenon occurring during the fast calcination induced by the presence of DEG may generate structural defects on the catalyst surface that are beneficial for the FTS. Notably, the product distribution of CoDEG/Al2O3(s)catalyst is only slightly affected
