The Croatian Woman Philosopher Ivana Rossi on the Philosophy of Henry Bergson
Ovdje donosim gotovo nepoznatu biografiju Ivane Rossi, sažetak njezine disertacije i pregled recepcije Bergsonove filozofije u nas.The Croatian woman philosopher Ivana Rossi (1892–1963) was the first Croatian woman to defend a doctorate in philosophy in 1916 at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. The topic of her dissertation was „The Basic Thoughts of Henry Bergson’s Philosophy“ (Osnovne misli filozofije Henri Bergsona). This dissertation was written much before Henri Bergson’s death in 1941, while he was professionally still very active. Ivana Rossi’s dissertation is the first serious presentation of Henri Bergson’s philosophical thought among the South Slavs. For hitherto unknown reasons — mostly likely personal — Ivana Rossi did not even attempt to work as a professional philosopher in the Academia. (She spent her entire professional career as a high school teacher in Zagreb, working in three different gymnasia: the “Kraljevska ženska realna gimnazija”, the “Partizanska realna gimnazija”, and the “III. muška realna gimnazija”.) In 1929, she published the article, „Some of Henri Bergson’s Thoughts on Aesthetics“ in the journal Književnik. Her second published work is her translation of James Barrie’s „Peter Pan in Kensington Park“ published in 1922. This book is the first Croatian translation of a book on Peter Pan. In this article, in addition to the hitherto little–known biography of Ivana Rossi and the reception of Bergson’s philosophy in Croatia, the author also presents a summary of her dissertation

ABSTRACT Charles University, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biological and Medical Sciences Title of Thesis: Western blot analysis of markers of endothelial dysfunction in mice aorta following high-fat diet administration Supervisor: RNDr. Ivana Němečková, Ph.D. Author: Ivana Střelcová Background: High dietary fat intake is associated with increased risk of developing various metabolic diseases, including increased cardiovascular risk. The aim of this thesis was to investigate whether the administration of the high-fat diet containing 42 % kcal of fat affects expression of selected markers of endothelial dysfunction, the key mechanism in development of cardiovascular complications. Methods: In this thesis were evaluated changes in the expression of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), endoglin (ENG), endothelin-1 (ET-1), intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1). An experimental group of male C57BL/6J mice aged 7 months was fed the high-fat diet containing 42% kcal of fat for 12 weeks. The control group was fed a standard laboratory diet. Western blot analysis followed by detection using a chemiluminescent reagent was used to evaluate the observed markers of endothelial dysfunction Results: The results show that there were no..

ABSTRAKT Univerzita Karlova, Farmaceutická fakulta v Hradci Králové Katedra biologických a lékařských věd Název diplomové práce: Western blot analýza markerů endotelové dysfunkce v myší aortě po podávání vysokotukové diety Vedoucí práce: RNDr. Metody: V práci byly sledovány změny v expresi endotelové syntázy oxidu dusnatého (eNOS), endoglinu (ENG), endotelinu-1 (ET-1), intercelulární adhezní molekuly 1 (ICAM- 1) a vaskulární adhezní molekuly 1 (VCAM-1). Giants as Mythological Creatures in two Stories by Ivana Brlić - Mažuranić
This master's thesis is based on previous research concerning giants in which the characteristics of giants as mythological creatures were described. Based on those studies, this work analyzes giants in two tales by Ivana Brlić – Mažuranić – Regoč and Priča o Zorku Bistrozorkom i o Sreći. Most authors who have written about the literary opus of Ivana Brlić – Mažuranić wrote mostly on the influences of Slavic mythology on her inspiration, her Tales of long ago and the mythological creatures within them, while giants and the rest of her literary works were somewhat less researched. This thesis focuses on researching and describing giants from a psychological aspect and, in that manner, contributes to previous research concerning Ivana Brlić – Mažuranić. Giants appear in numerous mythologies around the world, but each one of them presents a different version of the creature and this thesis describes the characteristic of giants as presented by author in her unique way. The tales have been analyzed from a psychological viewpoint and the characters have been described using the Big Five personality traits theory
The symbolic value of water as a vector to the prenatal life or deities drives the choice to bury the bodies in underground environments. It can therefore be assumed that the disused wells of the theater have been considered the most suitable place for infants burial in a rural area.
Thus, the particularity of the deposition and the high concentration of perinatal deaths, are likely connected to cultural practices, involving a differential treatment of infants, in association with an high risk of mortality at birt
Animal Exploitation Strategies during the Uluzzian at Grotta di Fumane (Verona, Italy)
This paper contributes to the dataset regarding Uluzzian hunting and food sourcing patterns in northern Italy by presenting results of the archaeozoological and taphonomic study of a sample of an estimated 37,000 bone remains recovered in the
Uluzzian occupation levels (Layer A3-A4) at Fumane Cave (Grotta di Fumane). The aim here is to reconstruct subsistence
practices and to provide a basis for further study of the relationship between economic changes and the new human population through comparison with evidence for the latest Mousterian occupations at this important site
The role of nurses in managerial positions
Annotation: Title of the work: THE ROLE OF NURSES IN MANAGERIAL POSITIONS Author: Bališová Ivana Institution: Institute of Social Medicine LF UK in Hradec Králové, Department of Nursing Head of the work: Doc. Neanderthal scraping and manual handling of raptors wing bones: Evidence from Fumane Cave. Experimental activities and comparison.
Given the still scanty amount of data ascribable to the interaction between raptors and hominins, this
contribution aims to fuel the debate on the complexity of Neanderthal behavior during MIS3 in Western
Eurasia. Nowadays, large raptors in general are scarce in nature, due to being top consumers in the
trophic chain, and attracted hominins possibly as advantageous indicators of scavenging and feeding
opportunities. Nevertheless, a symbolic rather than alimentary significance was designed from several
taphonomic investigations, demonstrating various deliberate actions for removing wings, feathers and
talons from raptors of different sizes. Following the results of taphonomic examinations of four raptors'
(cf. Aegypius monachus, cf. Gypaetus barbatus, Clanga clanga and Falco columbarius) bones recovered from
layer A9 at Fumane Cave, Italy, the data produced are here compared and supported by experimental
butchering and contextualized within a wider context that ranges into the Early Upper Palaeolithic.
Comparable to previous examples from Fumane and from other sites, the traces impressed on the surface
of the wing bones suggest the recovery of the feathers or the wing tip adorned of the primary feathers,
but also more complex and insisted interventions aimed to prepare the bone for a possible functional
use
