Howard Finster Paradise Garden 2
About Reverend Howard Finster:
Howard Finster was born in Alabama in 1916. He was 1 of 13 siblings and was only educated to a sixth-grade level. He was born again at 13 and at 16 he began preaching. Finster realized that his flock had trouble remembering his sermons, so he published religious themed songs in local newspapers and hosted a radio show to make his messages more accessible. He became an official pastor in 1940. He also hosted tent revivals. He had five children, and to make ends meet worked as a bricklayer, carpenter, plumber, and minor repairman. He didn\u27t sign contracts because “God is a free agent”.
In the 1960s, he started work on what would become known as Paradise Garden, his homemade art environment/ sculpture. He created biblical imagery from found objects including glass bottles, toys, and old bits of sculpture. Finster claims that in 1976, he experienced a religious moment while dipping his finger in paint. This led to him saying \u27How do I know that I cain\u27t paint.\u27 He proceeded to freehand a painting based off of a 1 dollar bill and from then on he would incorporate paintings into Paradise Garden. Finster also lined the area in these paintings and plywood cutouts of famous American historical figures, mythological figures such as Santa Claus, and characters from the Bible.
In 1983, Finster became famous due to allowing the band REM to film a music video in his garden. He would also go on to paint the album cover for the album Little Creatures by The Talking Heads. Finster died in 2001. His garden began to deteriorate but in 2012, the Paradise Garden Foundation took over and is currently reviving the site
The Finsters: From the Beginning of the 14th Century to the Present: An English Translation
This history of the Finster family beginning in the 14th century is a translation of an original 1921 work in German by Carl Hermann Arthur Finster. C.H. Arthur Finster was inspired to write this history following the success of Max Finster's beautiful Finsters in Görlitz family tree, reproduced at the rear of this publication. The significance of those 20th-century publications to the Finsters family has prompted this reproduction, which will help to preserve the family history and provide greater access to the history, particularly for descendants, but more generally for the German diaspora throughout the world. This English edition includes a new Australian section by Lorraine Dooley, which adds the Australian story of the Finster family, from 1849 when Arthur Guido Finster emigrated from Görlitz, Germany, to Melboure, Australia

FINSTER : FORMAC interactive system for terminals
FINSTER is a time-shared version of FORMAC and was developed to provide symbolic rnathernatical cornputations under the control of the user. It is an interactive system on a statement-by-staternent basis, i. e. the statements are executed immediately as they are typed in by the user. Although it is not possible in FINSTER to establish various paths of program flow in the stored prograrn sense, there is a loop statement to facilitate the handling of vector operations. FINSTER is based on OS/360-PL/l-FORMAC [1] , but we reduced the language to its pure FORMAC components: all variables occurring in FINSTER statements are FORMAC variables. Thus the systern can be used without knowledge in PL/l prograrnming. A prototype of FINSTER is running on the IBM/360-75 computer at the KFAJülich since April 1970. In a partition of 160 K bytes under OS-MFT it is serving four IBM-2260 display units. Other interactive FORMAC systems have been developed by Lipson and Tobey [2] and Stone [3]. Our thanks are due to Mr. Klaus Klingen who has inspected parts of the request handler with great care and in doing so has shortened the program considerably
