Global Optimization of Low-Thrust Interplanetary Trajectories Using a Machine Learning Surrogate
In this work, we propose a new method to approximate the cost function of Low-Thrust, Multiple-Gravity-Assist interplanetary trajectories using a Machine Learning surrogate. We identified the computation time required to obtain training data as the main limitation when using Machine Learning methods for this purpose so we present a strategy to build the surrogate with limited training data. We built an Online-Sequential Extreme Learning Machine Multi-Agent System (OS-ELM-MAS) surrogate due to its theoretical good performance when the training data is limited. In addition, we define a method to include the surrogate during the optimization process that can be used with any gradient-free algorithm, and study the effect of several surrogate parameters on the optimization results. Finally, several interplanetary trajectories are optimized with and without the surrogate. Employing the surrogate results in up to 12% lower fuel cost values after a fixed optimization time. The parameters that control the interaction have to be carefully selected to achieve this improvement, and we show that the optimal value of these parameters can be narrowed down based on the characteristics of the transfers.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Astrodynamics & Space Mission
Improving the Evolutionary Optimization of Interplanetary Low-Thrust Trajectories Using a Neural Network Surrogate Model
Building on recent advances in the fields of low-thrust trajectory optimization based on shaping methods, Artificial Neural Networks, and surrogate models in Evolutionary Algorithms, an investigation into a novel optimization routine is conducted. A flexible Python tool to evaluate linked trajectories in a two-body model based on hodographic shaping is implemented and used to develop a novel evolutionary optimization approach where a Genetic Algorithm is assisted in finding new candidate solutions by an online surrogate. The algorithm and different surrogate designs are experimentally investigated on two example problems based on the Dawn trajectory and the GTOC2 problem. Employing the surrogate yields new candidate solutions that improve the population’s fitness especially when the surrogate is used to approximate the shaping computation. Additionally, the use of a surrogate pretrained on a general data set of low-thrust transfers is tested and found to considerably improve the initial quality of the model, meaning that more good candidate solutions are found early on, accelerating the algorithm’s convergence.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Astrodynamics & Space Mission

The Use of Regression Method on Simple E for Estimating Electrical Energy Consumption
The continuous increase in population growth has an impact on the electrical energy supply. Based on this increase, electric power producers serve customers using proper forecasts. Therefore, it is a necessity to select the right calculation method with easy implementation. In this study, the population forecasts and economic growth calculations using the GT (Growth Trend) regression method development on Simple E were obtained for the year 2028. Furthermore, electricity consumption estimation was carried out using the DL (Double Log) regression method with growth trend, R, AR, DW, and t values of 6.63%, 0.993, 0.992, 1.21, and 2.18, respectively. The results show that estimated energy consumption was 6.63% annually, with the achievable amount for 2028 being 19,839.83 GWh. Doi: 10.28991/HIJ-SP2022-03-06 Full Text: PD
PREACHING WITHOUT BOOK: THE RHETORIC OF RELIGION IN THE NOVELS OF GEORGE ELIOT
This dissertation examines George Eliot\u27s use in her fiction of telling, including voice and point of view, and showing, or the direct presentation of religious experience. Chapter One presents the subject of the dissertation, George Eliot\u27s ability to convince her readers she was religiously orthodox and yet not offend the non believers in her audience. Several explanations for this successful ambiguity are suggested. Chapter Two deals with George Eliot\u27s telling. Her skillful and varying use of voice is investigated. The various voices such as dramatized second self, self conscious narrator, first person intrusive, implied author and ironic voice are discussed and traced in her fiction. Her increasing skill in use of voice is demonstrated. In Chapter Three the focus is on George Eliot\u27s showing. Still dealing largely with her presentation of supernatural experience, the chapter discusses what her description of these events appears to say about them. William James\u27 The Varieties of Religious Experience is employed as a touchstone by which to objectively view George Eliot\u27s showing of the religious and supernatural experience. Chapter Four summarizes the techniques George Eliot utilized in her fiction so that both believers and non-believers found support for their own views. The lack of objectivity of the religious audience and the very ambiguity of much supernatural experience were inherent aspects from which George Eliot benefitted. Her use of transvaluation as an aid to her ambiguity is reiterated. The multiple voices she employed are again referred to. The ironic voice is discussed and George Eliot\u27s faith in the power of belief to determine consequences is referred to as a further enhancement for her ambiguity. This final chapter concludes with an observation that George Eliot\u27s religion of fellow feeling even for her had its limitations and her willingness to admit those limitations in her fiction further protected her from exposing a clearly identifiable religious or philosophic identity which might have offended her readers
MONEY CREATION IN AN ISLAMIC MONETARY SYSTEM: A COMPARATIVE STUDY, BETWEEN MUHAMMAD UMER CHAPRA AND MABID ALI AL-JARHI
The creation of money is the most important part of monetary policy, it determines
the supply and circulation of money with main goals to main the stability in the value of
money. The prevalent money creation system is still regulated on debt basis, and interest
rate is the most important instrument of it. This particular system is clearly against the
principle of Islamic economics which prohibits the use of riba and interest rate of any kind.
The use of interest rate in money creation system would cause inflation and instability
value of money. And yet most Muslim majority countries are still implementing such
policy that includes Indonesia.
Acknowledging the previous background of research, the author tends to conduct
its undergraduate thesis on money creation in an Islamic monetary system by comparing
the two renown Muslim economists Muhammad Umer Chapra and Mabid Ali Al-Jarhi.
The research aims to know and understand the concept and mechanism of money creation
according to Muhammad Umer Chapra and Mabid Ali-Jarhi and then to compare the
similarities and differences of their thoughts.
The research is a qualitative and literature-based research, the author would use
descriptive comparative method to analyse and understand the thoughts and ideas of
Muhammad Umer Chapra and Mabid Ali Al-Jarhi on money creation in Islamic monetary
system. The author would descript their thoughts and ideas and then compare the differences
and similarities of both.
The research revealed the similarities and differences between Chapra’s and Al-Jahri’s
thoughts on the concept and mechanism of money creation. The fundamental difference
could be found in the concept of money creation, where Chapra proposed and suggested
the use of monetary targeting framework, meanwhile Al-Jahri proposed inflation targeting
framework. However, they both in agreement that Islamic banks have the capability to
create a significant amount of broad money. Nevertheless, they have different approach of
implementation of Islamic monetary policy instruments to control the creation of narrow
by central bank and broad money by Islamic banks.
