No full textIn the dialect of Vagli di Sopra, a village in the Alta Garfagnana, the northmost part of the province of Lucca, in Tuscany, the three remaining unstressed final vowels /a e i/ become [a ə i] in internal position. The alternation between /e/ and [ə] has probably triggered a reanalysis of formerly invariable cardinal numerals, which nowadays largely show gender agreement in pre-pausal position. We briefly analyze this uncommon phenomenon from both a dialectological and a typological point of view
