= In conditions of market-transition economy the goal ofeach region is to maximize economic activity. One of the innovative directions in the development ofregions is the creation of techno zones which influence regional progress by radically changing the motives determining the movement of manpower and material and financial resources. To justify the creation of local techno zones in Brest region the author has estimated the socio-economic potential, competitiveness and innovative activity of particular industries and regions, thus making it possible to estimate the level of development of particular regions, to create zones and to determine the poles of their economic growth

A Remote Area Power Supply (RAPS) Training Facility utilising SMA Sunny Island Inverter technology and National Instruments measurement package
RAPS systems can sometimes be a cheaper alternative for supplying power than connection to a distant utility. Most assuredly it is a cleaner method of producing electricity than coal or gas constituents, provided the diesel generator is used minimally. A modern RAPS system will generally have several sources of generation, typically they might be; solar, wind and a diesel/petrol generator coupled with a battery to store excess power. The RAPS 2 system at Murdoch University was selected for an overhaul early in 2010. The system was redesigned to include new inverter technology from SMA. The new system relies on 3 separate inverters to convert the sources directly into grid quality electricity, as opposed to some traditional RAPS systems that would have most of its elements feed a DC bus that connected to a single inverter. This novel way of setting up a mini grid finds its niche in situations when the terrain or meteorological conditions make it impractical to have generation equipment all localised and a DC bus would have higher associated cable losses.
For such a system to be of educational benefit to tertiary students, the variables within the system must be able to be monitored. To this end an advanced measurement system has been designed and procured so that every measurable point in the upgraded system is available for display.
The measurement system was designed using National Instruments compact DAQ (data acquisition) hardware, one of the first of its type to be introduced to the university. The compact DAQ unit has been coupled with isolation equipment supplied by Dataforth, which already has an existing prevalence throughout the engineering department. The subsequent measurement program monitors 31 system variables at a high sampling rate to provide real time information on the state of the system. The measurement program also monitors relevant meteorological aspects such as the solar irradiance and local wind speed.
This report documents and details the steps taken to set up a new and novel RAPS system. Discussed are the approaches taken throughout the semester to project manage and facilitate progress. A detailed description is also given of the measurement and protection system that has been designed to allow students and the general public to get a good grasp on the performance of the system

WebWriter: A System to Author and Remix Explorables – Requirements & First Prototype
Active and personalized learning requires that teachers can remix a wide variety of sources into new learning resources, which in turn may be customized by students. While this is well-supported for paper-oriented resources, multimodal, interactive learning resources for digital use, called explorables, are much more difficult to author and remix. In this paper, we derive a set of requirements for a system to author such explorables from a workshop-based study. We further present a first prototype of such a system, called “WebWriter”
Un anello ebraico in bronzo da Porto Torres (sec. IV-V e.v.), e l'epigrafe di Anabatia rinvenuta a Gerace (sec. XIV), con una nota su una lucerna funeraria ebraica da Licata (secc. IV-V e.v.)
The study presents a number of new archaeological discoveries of Jewish artifacts and proposes a new reading of an already known inscription. Perani, author of Part I, describes a recently discovered Jewish bronze ring from Porto Torres, Sardinia, dating to late antiquity (4th-5th centuries e.v.), relating to similar Jewish rings, discovered in Sicily and Sardinia in the past. Colafemmina, author of Part II, presents his reading of the inscription of Anabatyya found in 1990 in Gerace, province of Reggio Calabria. Finally, M.S. Rizzo and A. Toscano Raffa describe a recently discovered Jewish funerary lamp with menorah from late Roman period (4th-5th centuries), just found in Licata (Sicily)
Controversies in the management of acute tonsillitis: an evidence-based review
BACKGROUND: Patients admitted with acute tonsillitis generate a substantial workload for the National Health Service (NHS), placing huge financial pressures on an already overstretched budget.OBJECTIVE OF REVIEW: Due to the difficulty of accurate diagnosis and varying practices across the UK, there exist a number of controversial areas and non-standardised practice. These will be highlighted and tackled within this article.TYPE OF REVIEW AND SEARCH STRATEGY: A literature review, last performed in September 2013, searched PubMed citing variations on the areas of controversies with 'tonsillitis', 'pharyngitis' and 'pharyngotonsillitis' - from 1956 to present with language restrictions. Excluded articles included those regarding sore throat after tonsillectomy and peritonsillar abscess.EVALUATION METHOD: Titles and abstracts were initially screened, and full text of potentially relevant articles obtained. The bibliographies of articles were searched for relevant references. The references were then compiled and reviewed independently by two authors (JB & TB), overseen by the senior author (EK).RESULTS: (i) Diagnosis and investigation: Use of the Centor criteria is inadequate within the secondary care setting. Blood testing is unnecessary in the majority of cases where patients do not require admission, as they are unlikely to change management. (ii) Antibiotics: Antibiotics are likely to be indicated in all those presenting to secondary ENT care, with penicillin being the antibiotic of choice for first-line therapy. (iii) Corticosteroids: Moderate evidence supports the benefit of steroid administration in this patient cohort, advocating a single dose initially followed by reassessment. (iv) Analgesia: Paracetamol and NSAIDs have good evidence of action. Codeine should be used with caution in the paediatric population. (v) Reduced admission rates and early discharge: There is evidence suggesting that a trial of medical therapy prior to admission is beneficial in reducing rates of admission and length of stay.CONCLUSIONS: Management of acute tonsillitis within a secondary care setting largely consists of anecdotal or relatively low-quality evidence. Thus, much evidence from management comes from expert opinion or practice within a primary care setting. Management across the UK can also vary greatly. An evidence-based review of best practice has been presented here, but further evidence will be required in the future examining the significance of corticosteroids and antibiotic administration in this patient cohort specifically, ensuring practice is evidence based and clinically relevant.</p
Estimating content quality in the world wide web
The World Wide Web is used by an increasing number of people as an everexpanding source of information on almost every topic imaginable. However, useful data is often buried in large quantities of low-quality content. Estimation of content quality is valuable for diverse applications, such as search result ranking and direction of crawlers. In this text an approach is described to automatically determine author identity of web pages and compile data on author reputation in order to better estimate the quality of new content. The results of preliminary studies are presented which show the viability of the author reputation approach
