Belief and Ageing: Spiritual pathways in later life
Based on 40 years' interviewing experience, this book illustrates the variety of religious, spiritual and other beliefs held by older people. It provides models of research procedure, especially in the context of bereavement. Participants include not only British Christians, but also Muslims, Humanists and witnesses of the Soviet persecution of religion. The author argues that both welfare professionals and gerontologists need to pay far more consideration to belief as a constituent of well-being in later life. The book looks to the future and increasing diversity of choice in matters of belief among Britain and Europe's older citizens as a consequence of immigration and globalisation
Electrically stimulated light-induced second-harmonic generation in glass: evidence of coherent photoconductivity
A strong electrostatic field applied to glass is spatially modulated by intense light at frequencies ω and 2ω. The phenomenon is explained in terms of photoconductivity being dependent on the relative phase of the light fields at different frequencies
Light craft: creating unusual properties in glass with light
Glass dominates modern optical technologies. Nonlinear optical processes, such as second-harmonic generation and parametric frequency conversion, are technological very attractive and require a second-order optical nonlinearity - a χ(2), which is normally absent in glass owing to its inversion symmetry. Thus, when light-induced frequency doubling was first discovered wide-ranging studies ensued into the mechanism and properties of this unexpected phenomenon. The mystery of self-organized χ(2) gratings was finally solved on the basis of a new physical phenomenon - the coherent photogalvanic effect, consisting in quantum interference between light fields at two different frequencies, ω and 2ω, which excites a phase dependent current (coherent photocurrent). Coherent photocurrent creates quasi-phase matching χ(2) gratings. Moreover in the experiments on electric-field second harmonic generation in optical fibres the first evidence of phase dependent modulation of a total cross-section of ionization due to quantum interference (coherent photoconductivity) in solid state materials has been obtained

In a certain time work agreement involving two parties, namely the P.G Mojo Sragen party and the worker, it is called a reciprocal agreement and therefore creates rights and obligations for the parties. If in the implementation of the rights and obligations between P.G Mojo Sragen and workers, one of the parties does not carry out their achievements, it will result in legal liability. The purpose of this study was to determine the process of agreement between P.G Mojo Sragen and workers, the applicable regulations and the rights and obligations of a certain time work agreement between P.G Mojo Sragen and workers, as well as legal responsibility if one of the parties made a mistake from the work agreement. The method used in this study is a normative approach because in this study, which are legal rules, legal principles in legal responsibility between P.G Mojo Sragen and workers. The type of research used by the author in this research is descriptive research to clearly describe the legal responsibility between P.G Mojo Sragen and workers. The results of this study indicate that in the process of implementing a work agreement for a certain time, prior to the occurrence of the agreement, the administrative requirements and legal requirements in accordance with Article 1320 of the Civil Code are: (1) Agreeing (2) Legal Capability (3) A certain matter (4) An lawful cause. At the time the agreement was signed with a certain time agreement P.G Mojo Sragen with workers that had been made by P.G Mojo Sragen based on a standard agreement. After the agreement, a binding legal relationship arises and gives birth to rights and obligations. If in the implementation one of the parties does not fulfill its rights and obligations, then it must be responsible on the basis of default in accordance with Article 1243 of the Civil Code and if one of the parties violates the applicable law, it can be accounted for based on unlawful acts in accordance with Article 1365 of the Civil Code
Fundamentals of glass poling: from self-organization to electric-field poling
One decade has passed since the discovery of self-organized (photoinduced quasi-phase-matched) second-harmonic generation (SHG) in optical fibers. This discovery has attracted considerable interest world-wide due to the unusually strong χ(2) (second-order susceptibility) gratings induced purely by optical fields in glass (10 m/V, which were 4-5 orders of magnitude higher than one could explain by known physical processes). In 1991 the value of χ(2) has been increased to a new level of 1pm/V by thermal poling. Towards practical second-harmonic generation in optical glass fibres
Recent advances in silica fibres exhibiting second-order optical nonlinearities as a result of both self-induced and thermal poling processes are reported. Efficient second-harmonic generation in silica fibre subjected to a strong electrostatic field via internal electrodes was observed. Spatial periodic modulation of the applied electric field, responsible for the second-harmonic signal, arises from the interaction of the intense light at fundamental and doubled frequencies with glass, which has its inversion symmetry broken by the applied field. The process could represent the first evidence of coherent photoconductivity in glass - conductivity being dependent on the relative phase of the light fields at different frequencies. Moreover, D-shaped silica fibres have been periodically poled at elevated temperature by applying high voltage via a patterned electrode fabricated an the planar surface and high quality quasi-phase-matching structures have been created. Efficient frequency doubling of picosecond pulses to the blue in periodically poled fibre was demonstrated

A Comparison of Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotropin and P.G. 600® to Improve Reproductive Efficiency in Sows
Three hundred and nineteen sows were utilized to study the effects of pregnant mare serum and P.G 600 on reproductive efficiency. Sows were randomly allotted to treatments. Sows were evaluated for age (# of parities), breed composition and body condition score. Three sows who shared all three fields in common were randomly treated with one of three treatments the morning after weaning: 1. (S) Controls: 5ml of Sterile Saline Solution 0.9% 2. (M) Treatment (PMSG): 12ml of Pregnant Mare Serum 3. (P) Treatment (PG600)® 5ml of P.G. 600 (Intervet America Inc., Millsboro, DE) No differences were observed for total number of pigs born among treatments (P\u3e.05). Neither parity, body condition or breed composition had a significant influence on total number born. However, treatments of pregnant mare serum and P.G. 600 to controls resulted in significantly shorter wean to estrus intervals (P\u3c.0002 vs. P\u3c.0001) than sows in the control group respectively) from weaning to estrus. Additionally, P.G. 600 treated sows had shorter weaning to estrus intervals than PMSG treated sows (P\u3c.0802)
