La Tavola di Giugurta. Un luogo sallustiano ai margini del Sahara
No full textLa Table du Jugurta è un rilievo tabulare sito nella Tunisia settentrionale, in prossimità del confine con l’Algeria; la sua posizione dominante l’ha resa da sempre un luogo di controllo e di rifugio per varie popolazioni: il suo nome fa riferimento ad un episodio della guerra tra Roma ed il re numidico Jugurta descritto da Sallustio nel Bellum Jugurtinum. Da un punto di vista geomorfologico il rilievo è una mesa calcarea con ampio tabulato sommitale, delimitata da scarpate, relitto erosivo di un ampia superficie regionale oggi smembrata. L’affioramento è in gran parte costituito da calcari nummulitici e presenta una giacitura sub-orizzontale; il sistema presenta una circolazione profonda di tipo carsico la cui efficienza è funzione del regime pluviometrico

No full textSingle-site recreation demand and dichotomous choice contingent valuation analyses are typically conducted by implementing models containing strong parametric assumptions, which are rarely underpinned by theoretical arguments. This work illustrates how these assumptions can be relaxed and the estimation conducted semiparametrically by using generalized additive models (GAMs). This approach directly estimates the degree of the variables’ nonlinearities from the data, thereby avoiding subjective choices on the smoothing parameters and offering many advantages when compared to the conventional modeling techniques that dominate the environmental.
