Guglielmo Ferrero e l'antiprotezionismo militante
No full textGuglielmo Ferrero (1871-1942), sociologo, storico, romanziere ed estensore del manifesto della Lega antiprotezionista, è stato uno dei principali intellettuali europei dell’epoca.
Negli ultimi anni del XIX secolo, dopo essere stato radicale e socialista, si avvicinò al “Giornale degli economisti” diretto da Antonio De Viti de Marco. Fu allora che portò a maturazione la sua adesione al liberismo. Ferrero, assieme ad altri liberisti quali De Viti de Marco, Giretti e Pantaleoni, ricondusse al protezionismo e a una politica fiscale classista e antipopolare la causa delle dimostrazioni e dei tumulti che scoppiarono in Italia fin dagli ultimi mesi del 1897.
In questo eBook vengono raccolti alcuni degli scritti più significativi di Ferrero, pubblicati tra il 1894 e il 1914, dai quali emerge con grande chiarezza la sua impostazione favorevole al libero scambio e la sua avversione verso politiche doganali di stampo protezionistico. Pare tuttavia possibile, con Luciano Canfora, individuare una forte suggestione da parte del pensiero 'elitista'. Il presente articolo conferma tale linea di lettura, individuando, per la prima volta, l'opera che avrebbe influenzato il giovane Gelzer. Si tratta di 'Grandezza e decadenza di Roma' di Guglielmo Ferrero, scritto maturato sotto l'egida di Gaetano Mosca, di taglio non scientifico ma non per questo meno influente e citato più volte dallo stesso Gelzer, nonché da buona parte della storiografia europea

An assessment of the impact of possible CAP reform scenarios on Romanian agriculture
No full textUsing a simplified model, with key-variable the prices of two different possible scenarios of CAP reform after 2013 (moderate and radical), this paper present a comparison between the price effects of implementation of each reform scenario at 2015 horizon on Romanian agriculture. This short analysis shows that, under the presented hypotheses, the net welfare effect, due to the price changes, for the selected products, is positive in both reform scenarios, yet greater in the case of the radical reform. Integrated in the large context of Romanian development, it seems that the influence of CAP reform upon agriculture and rural areas will be most likely a gradual one: an interpenetration between the two scenarios is foreseeable, starting with the moderate reform that will dominate the period around 2013, the reform measures acquiring a more radical character afterwards.CAP reform, Romania, welfare effects, Agricultural and Food Policy,
Rich, Sturmian, and trapezoidal words
No full textIn this paper we explore various interconnections between rich words, Sturmian words, and trapezoidal words. Rich words, first introduced by the second and third authors together with J. Justin and S. Widmer, constitute a new class of finite and infinite words characterized by having the maximal number of palindromic factors. Every finite Sturmian word is rich, but not conversely. Trapezoidal words were first introduced by the first author in studying the behavior of the subword complexity of finite Sturmian words. Unfortunately this property does not characterize finite Sturmian words. In this note we show that the only trapezoidal palindromes are Sturmian. More generally we show that Sturmian palindromes can be characterized either in terms of their subword complexity (the trapezoidal property) or in terms of their palindromic complexity. We also obtain a similar characterization of rich palindromes in terms of a relation between palindromic complexity and subword complexity

No full textLa crisi economica internazionale ha modificato struttura e tendenze di molti mercati. Pochi sono gli studi finora condotti sulle conseguenze per le funzioni di marketing e di vendita. Questo articolo presenta i risultati di un’indagine svolta presso un campione di medie imprese, rivolta a comprendere i cambiamenti in atto nelle strategie di mercato e nel ruolo e nell’importanza attribuita a queste funzioni. I risultati evidenziano il progressivo affermarsi in queste imprese di un più deciso orientamento al mercato, a cui si associa una maggiore valorizzazione di queste funzioni. La funzione di vendita viene a svolgere un ruolo importante anche per l’analisi dei clienti e dei mercati, in una quadro di crescente collaborazione con la funzione di marketing. Water Tank Simulation of a Dense Fluid Release
No full textThe turbulent velocity field of a dense fluid release has been measured in a water tank experiment carried out in the TURLAB laboratory in Turin (Italy). A vertical density driven current was created releasing a saline solution in a water tank with no mean flow. The experiment reproduces in physical similarity, based on the density Froud number, the release of a dense gas in the atmosphere and the PIV technique has been used to analyse the buoyancy generated velocity field. The high temporal and spatial resolution of the measurements gives a deep insight to the problems of the bouncing of dense gases and of the creation of the outflow velocity at the ground. The experimental findings are used to test and improve an original method for the dispersion of a positively and negatively buoyant plume. The method is based on the idea of Alessandrini and Ferrero (Phys. A 388:1375–1387, 2009) for the treatment of a background substance entrainment into the plume and it consists on the introduction of two fictitious scalars inside the Lagrangian Model SPRAY. The fictitious scalars represent the density and momentum difference between the plume and the environment air that naturally takes into account the interaction between the plume and the environment. As a consequence, no more particles than those inside the plume are released to simulate the entrainment of the background air temperature. In this way the entrainment is properly simulated and the plume sink is calculated from the local property of the flow. The approach is wholly Lagrangian
