PRE-SERVICE SPORT SPECIALISTS’ PERCEPTIONS OF ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
Academic integrity is fundamental value of pre-service sport specialists’ professional competence developing, which promote public confidence in coaching and teaching as a process for professional and personal development. There is an ethical dissonance that the distribution of all dishonesty types was significantly higher than the perception of their legitimacy and that students conduct academic dishonesty despite its perception as unethical (Blau & Eshet-Alkalai, 2017). The research aim is to reveal the pre-service sport specialists’ perceptions of academic integrity and to find out the ways for promotion of academic integrity. The methods: a theoretical analysis of scientific literature, an interpretative phenomenological semi-structured interview, open and axial coding. The research sample 135 pre-service sport specialist, voluntary participants, 47% – female, 53% – male. The main research results: academic integrity perception is important for the development of pre-service sport specialists’ professional competence. Pre-service sport specialists\u27 main opinion about benefit of being academically dishonest is time saving and personal gain. The main causes of academic dishonesty are laziness, lack of knowledge and competence, searching for an easy way.
HORSE AND RIDER FACTORS OF PERFORMANCE IN SHOW - JUMPING DISCIPLINE
Success in each sport is made up of certain factors. Therefore, it is necessary to be acutely aware of the factors and criteria that influence performance in a particular sport. Horse riding is a very unique sport as it is a sport where two different organisms cooperate in terms of mass, size, thinking, and physical, psychological, tactical abilities and skills, as well as characteristics. It is a sport where there is practically no age limit, and where women compete alongside men. Therefore, it is difficult to find literature where several authors come to an agreement. There are often several different opinions, including on the performance-enhancing factors in the equestrian show-jumping discipline. It is quite important to evaluate the possible factors and reach a consensus in order to crystallize a possible unified system. The aim of the research is to determine the factors contributing to the performance of the rider and the horse in the show jumping discipline in different age groups. Research methods: Scientific literature review and analysis. Main results and conclusions. By theoretically researching and analysing the literature, it should be concluded that there are no concrete factors contributing to the attributed performance in the specific age stages, which can basically create uncertainty as well as consensus of opinions in future studies due to the influence of the generalization of these factors. From the context of the studied materials, it should be concluded that there is an insufficient theoretical basis, which is evidenced by a relatively narrow spectrum of topical issues. Therefore, the obtained theoretical information allows to create a basis for further practical research, thus expanding the theoretical base in the context of the current issue.
AIM AND MEANING OF BREATHING EXERCISES: INTERDISCIPLINARY LITERATURE REVIEW
Respiration is an indispensable aspect of life that significantly influences both the physical and mental well-being of individuals, depending on such factors as depth and rhythm. Exploring the distinctions between chest and abdominal breathing is crucial for understanding their profound impacts, and embracing appropriate breathing exercises has proven to be advantageous for short-term relief and long-term holistic health. While acknowledged for diverse therapeutic applications, such as mitigating vocal cord fatigue, a comprehensive exploration of breathing exercises remains essential. Sport scientists and coaches are encouraged to acquire a set of breathing exercises for future implementation in the training routines. This study strives to conduct an interdisciplinary literature review to shed light on the aims, meaning, and classification of breathing exercises. Employing a literature review methodology, were analysed peer-reviewed articles from PubMed and ScienceDirect published during the years from 2000 to 2023, focusing on such keywords as breathing exercises, deep breathing, nasal breathing, abdominal breathing, thoracic breathing, pursed-lip breathing, breathing control, and respiratory muscle training. The research findings illustrate the multifaceted definitions, components, aims, and classifications of breathing exercises. This study establishes a foundation for identifying distinct subtypes, contributing to a more nuanced understanding of the significance and purpose of breathing exercises in enhancing overall well-being.
S07-4: The Impact of Physical Fitness Levels on Student Engagement in Physical Education: Study Across Different Age Groups
Purpose: To analyse the engagement and participation of students with varying levels of overall physical fitness in physical education and health classes in different age groups. How does students’ overall physical fitness level influence their engagement and participation in physical education and health classes over the course in different age groups? The study provides insights into how physical fitness and engagement evolve over time and it differs from other studies that focus solely on physical performance.
Methods: Quasi-experimental research design was used. A total of 76 students participated in the study. The combination of scientific literature analysis, surveys, fitness assessments, pedagogical observations, and statistical analysis (descriptive statistics and the inferential statistics) offers a multi-dimensional perspective on the relationship between physical fitness and engagement. The respondents provided data anonymously, the study was conducted with the permission of the Research Ethics Committee of Latvian Academy of Sport Education.
Results: The results indicated that students’ overall physical fitness improved over the semester, which correlated with increased engagement in physical education classes (rs = –.575; p < 0.05). Fitness assessment data showed that better-conditioned students participated more actively and exhibited more positive emotions (rs = .380; p < 0.01). In contrast, students with lower physical fitness levels were more likely to miss classes, showed lower motivation (rs = –.554; p < 0.01), and demonstrated less emotional involvement (rs = –.473; p < 0.01).
Conclusions: Mostly in all ages, students with higher general physical fitness scores are more actively engaged in physical education and health lessons, which indicates that more inclusive pedagogical approaches are needed to promote the development of physical literacy in students. The findings highlight the need for tailored physical education approaches to support students with lower fitness levels, offering actionable insights for teachers to foster greater inclusivity and motivation of the engagement in physical education classes.

Women\u27s in Fitness Social Belonging and Physical Activity in the Context of Quality of Life
Forming as many interpersonal relationships as possible is one of the most important goals in peoples’ lives. Mutual physical activities create a basis for social belonging. Therefore, the goal of the study is to determine the correlation between the components of social belonging and physical activity among women in fitness. The social belonging analysis was conducted with the use of questionnaires (adopted in Latvian), and a shortened version of IPAQ to determine the levels of physical activity. The components of social belonging were defined, and several weak, but significant, correlations between these components and the level of physical activity were found. According to the data obtained in the current study we can conclude, that social belonging has positive impact on PA. Those, who more often feel the relatedness, satisfactory from interpersonal relationship and inclusion in the social groups are more physically active. In order to evaluate, how the quality of life aspect of social belonging for women in fitness correlates with physical activity, they must be taken into account.
ANALYSIS OF THE SELF-REPORTED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY QUESTIONNAIRES INDICATORS
“Global action plan on physical activity 2018–2030” emphasizes the need for weekly moderate physical activity for ensuring human health. Physical activity can be measured by a variety of objective and subjective methods, but one of the prerequisites for understanding the connection between active lifestyle and health certainty that the measuring instrument measures the feature for which it has been created and that it can be used in many countries. The goal of the research is to determine the correlations between measurement properties of fitness club clients’ self-reported physical activity indicators in the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ), International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), European Health Interview Survey-Physical Activity Questionnaire (EHIS-PAQ), and to evaluate their concurrent validity. Methods: participants (volunteers) were 70 fitness club visitors (age 18-79). This research is preparative part for the further research of the project “European Physical Activity and Sports Monitoring System (EUPASMOS)”. The type, involvement and amount of physical activity was determined by the GPAQ, IPAQ and EHIS-PAQ adapted into Latvian. The research results showed that questionnaires allowed to determine the respondents’ physical activity indicators in and out of fitness club activities. Statistically significant correlations were determined between indicators obtained in all physical activity questionnaires applied in the research (p<0.05). This confirms that all three physical activity determination questionnaires can be used for physical activity research in Latvian environment.
CHARACTERIZATION OF THE ESSENCE OF THE HUMAN PHYSICAL CAPITAL CONCEPT IN RELATION TO THE FITNESS INDUSTRY
A large part of the society perceives the body as a fundamental tool to advance in social life, as a capital in labour relations and in sexual relations as well. The possibility to transform one’s own physical capital into economic, social or cultural capital, which is an opportunity a person receives through carrying out physical activity, is also a value in the field of fitness which is an industry that is worth billions. That is why the aim of this study was to investigate in-depth characterization of the nature of the physical capital concept, linking it to the field of fitness. The study is based on 48 literature sources and scientific articles, 2 of which are in Latvian, 5 in Russian and 41 – in English. The essence of the content of the physical capital concept has been investigated and the connections of notions in different theoretical contexts has been evaluated, starting from the beginning of the physical capital concept. The definitions were grouped in a broader and narrower scope. In the narrower sense, physical capital is a person’s skills and abilities – innate or acquired over time –, which help to perform a specific physical work, move, strengthen or improve physical health and capacity for work. In the broader sense – as values and investments in the body, building of a body in society. In the broader sense of physical capital, the main goal is its transformation into other forms of capital in order to obtain additional benefits or a new status in the society.
ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FITNESS CONCEPT AND THE AREA OF FITNESS IN LATVIA AND THE WORLD
Despite the great popularity of fitness around the world, it is still unclear what fitness is and how people understand it. The essence of fitness has gradually evolved from simple physical fitness to a cultural phenomenon. The second path of fitness development is from the physical health of a person reflected in a person’s readiness to do physical work to the desire to improve their own quality of life. That is why the aim of this study was to investigate in depth the essential characteristics of the fitness concept and the area of fitness. The study is based on 41 literature sources and scientific articles, 8 of which are in Russian and 33 – in English. The essence of the content of the fitness concept has been investigated and the hierarchy of concepts has been evaluated in different theoretical contexts, starting from the historical beginning of the fitness concept. Definitions were grouped in a broader and a narrower sense: 1) fitness as a set of attributes and abilities and 2) fitness as a way of life, lifestyle and quality of life. The essential categories of the fitness concept were compiled. The change of fitness area and its influence on the society was discussed. By summarizing the analysis of fitness definitions and evaluating fitness according to various theoretical aspects, it can be concluded that fitness is interpreted as sport competition fitness, as an implementation of a healthy way of life and as physical fitness or health-oriented physical fitness. Due to constant change and improvement of the body ideal sometimes it is complicated to participate in the process of improving health, also achieving it requires a lot of energy and time. People don’t understand where is the difference between healthy body and fitness body prepared for competition or commercial. Therefore the greater the beauty industry and fitness area becomes, the weaker becomes the human.
