Letter from William Fee to James B. Finley
Fee writes to Finley letting him know that he gave him the wrong date for the cornerstone laying service at the Hillsborough M.E. He gives Finley the correct information -- April 13, 1853. Fee relates that folks are very excited that Finley is coming. Fee asks Finley to bring several newspaper issues to place in the cornerstone -- Christian Advocate and Journal, Pittsburgh Christian Advocate, and The Apologist. Fee Waivers in Money Market Mutual Funds
It is a widespread practice among mutual fund managers to voluntarily waive fees they have a contractual right to claim. The effective fee charged may be substantially less than indicated in expense ratios and may vary over the year despite a constant contractual fee. Retail fund managers use fee waivers to strategically adjust net advisory fees to current realizations in performance and expected fund flows. The paper finds differences in waiving between retail and institutional funds because of differences in the effectiveness of waivers in advancing performance.

Determinants and implications of fee changes in the hedge fund industry
We examine the determinants and consequences of changes in hedge fund fee structures. We show that fee changes are asymmetric with much greater incidence of fee increases compared to fee decreases. We find that managers of younger and smaller funds are more likely to increase fees after good performance. Investors view the fee increases following good performance as a signal of managerial ability only to be disappointed by their worse future performance. Taken together, these findings are consistent with opportunistic behavior of emerging fund managers in expropriating surplus from their investors. --
