    Target Strength Ikan Kerapu Cantang Terhadap Panjang Total Ikan Menggunakan Singlebeam Echosounder

    Ikan Kerapu Cantang (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus >< Epinephelus lanceolatus) adalah salah satu produk budidaya utama di Indonesia dan mempunyai nilai harga yang tinggi yaitu berkisar mulai dari Rp. 110.000 hingga Rp.120.000/kg dan sudah menjadi komoditas ekspor penting terutama ke Hongkong, Jepang, Singapura dan Cina. Metode Hidroakustik merupakan metode deteksi objek (ikan) bawah air baik di kolam maupun di laut dan Nilai Target Strength (TS) merupakan parameter utama untuk menduga objek dibawah air, oleh karena itu perlunya dilakukan penelitian terkait nilai Target Strength (TS) dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui nilai hambur balik Ikan Kerapu Cantang yang selanjutnya akan dihubungkan dengan ukuran ikan tersebut. Berdasarkan hasil pengukuran terhadap 30 sampel Ikan Kerapu Cantang yang terdiri dari berbagai macam ukuran, maka nilai TS yang didapat berkisar dari -56,17 hingga -40,4. Hubungan linier positif dapat terlihat dari hasil uji statistik yaitu mempunyai nilai R2 0,8. Berdasarkan hasil statistik di atas bahwa nilai rata-rata TS dipengaruhi nilai TL Ikan Kerapu Cantang.     In my thesis collection, Try Again, I aimed to explore the consequences of choice. Through four short stories and one novella, I focused on close relationships between two focus characters and how both large and inconsequential choices can shape futures. In the novella, Try Again, I practiced game writing and learned how to shape a character when perhaps the largest signifier of character—choice—is left in the hands of the reader, rather than the author. The construction of this thesis and its stories developed my abilities to find high tension in lower stakes

Advisors: (I) Dr. Ekaning Dewanti Laksmi, M.Pd., (II) Nunung Suryati, M.Ed., Ph.D.   Keywords: Reading skill, kinesthetic learners, pop-up comic book   This research aims to develop a pop-up comic book as an instructional medium for reading activities for 9th graders kinesthetic learners. This instructional medium was developed to help kinesthetic learners in reading narrative text. When reading narrative text, the learners allowed to play around with the medium by involving in constructing the medium, sticking on the characters and matching the dialogue box with the characters. This study employed Research and Development (R&D) design. The study was done through seven stages. They were need analysis, product development, expert validation, revision 1, try-out, revision 2 and final product development. The Pop-up Comic book was validated by two experts: a lecturer of English Department in State University of Malang and an English teacher of SMP Negeri 1 Wonosalam. After that, the product was revised based on the experts’ suggestions. Then, it was tried-out to 6 ninth graders kinesthetic students of SMP Negeri 1 Wonosalam. The data collection instruments used were interview guide, questionnaire and validation sheet. The interview guidewas used in need analysis stage, the questionnaire was used in need analysis and try-out, and the validation sheet was used in validation stage. The data from the instruments were analyzed using a descriptive analysis technique. The Pop-up book was created on 45cm x 32cm carton papers. The series of pictures used in the pop-up book were printed on glossy paper. This Pop-up Comic book aimed to help kinesthetic students using hands-on involvement in reading activity by sticking on the characters and matching the dialogue box with the character. To match the KTSP curriculum basic competence 11.3 for 9th graders, the narrative text chosen was Little Red Riding Hood.  The result of experts’ validation showed positive results. By the lecturer, it was given 2.8 on the scale of 4. By the other validator, it was given a better score of 3.1 on the scale of 4. The result of the try-out also showed positive result. By the students, it was given 3.29 on the scale of 4 and all of the students also said that the medium helped them to comprehend the story. Based on the finding, it is concluded that the product is feasible to be used. It is recommended to future researcher or media developer to do similar study. The pop-up comic book developed in this study can be further developed using various stories. Kemudian produk tersebut direvisi berdasarkan masukan dari kedua ahli. Setelah itu produk akan di uji coba kepda 6 siswa kelas 9 yang bergaya belajar kinestetik dari SMP Negeri 1 Wonosalam. Instrumen pengumoulan data yang digunakan adalah buku panduan wawancara, kuisioner dan lembar validasi. Buku panduan wawancara digunakan pada tahap need analysis, kuisioner digunakan pada tahap need analysisdan try-out, dan lembar validasi digunakan pada tahap validasi. Data yang didapat dianalisa menggunakan teknik analisa deskriptif. Pop-up Comic book dibuat dari kertas karton dengan ukuran 45cm x 32cm. komik yang berada didalam Pop-up Comic book di cetak dengan kertas glossy. Kemudian komik yang tercetak ditempel pada Pop-up. Pop-up Comic book ini bertujuan untuk membantu siswa kinestetik aktif bergerak saat melakukan aktivitas membaca dengan menempelkan karakter dan mencocokan kotak dialok dengan karakter. Untuk menyesuaikan dengan kurikulum KTSP KD 11.3 kelas swmbilan, teks narrative yang dipilih adalah Little Red Riding Hood. Hasil dari validasi ahli menunjukan hasil yang positif. Dari dosen diperoleh hasil 2,8 dalam skala 4. Dari validator lainnya diperoleh hasil 3,1 dalam skala 4. Hasil dari uji coba juga menunjukan hasil yang positif. Dari siswa diperoleh hasil 3,29 dalam skala 4 dan semua siswa merasa terbantu oleh media dalam memahami cerita. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa produk ini dapat digunakan. Direkomendasikan untuk peneliti selanjutnya atau pengembang media untuk melakukan penelitian serupa. Pop-up Comicbook yang dikembangkan dapat jauh dikembangkan menggunakan bermacam-macam cerita. Peneliti selanjutnya atau pengembang media juga dapat mengembangkan media lain untuk gaya belajar yang lain

    Report of a CELT project on supporting students through innovation and researchFor the last four years the School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT) has offered a degree conversion programme from HND to degree, which is becoming increasingly popular, especially with students from local FE colleges. In addition about 15% of the students are recruited from overseas. However, the students on the ‘Top Up’ programme have demonstrated difficulty with the more academic aspects of their course, especially the individual project, which is taken in semester 2. Although the students rarely failed the project, the marks achieved were substantially lower than those they obtained for other modules, in particular modules that were more practically focussed. This was to be expected given the vocational nature of these students’ previous studies. In their first semester of the degree conversion programme, the students take a core module in Professional Aspects of Computing (PAC). As well as introducing them to professional issues associated with work in an IT environment, this module was designed to improve their key and intellectual skills, especially those required to complete the project successfully such as literature search, referencing and critical evaluation. An improvement in the project marks had been recorded in each of the three previous years through increasing emphasis on those skills in the PAC module. Consideration of current educational research about learning styles led the award team to reflect on whether the students’ learning styles could be an underlying issue in their struggling with the more academic aspects of the course. Marton and Saljo (1976) identified two contrasting approaches to learning: deep and surface, subsequently extended to include a third, strategic, approach (Entwistle, 1987). It is accepted, however, that strategic learners may also be either deep or surface learners. A deep approach to learning is believed to correlate with increased academic success. Entwistle (2000) defined a successful student as one who adopts a deep, strategic approach with no surface, apathetic elements. Initially, in this field of research, assessment of student learning style was by means of interview but that was superseded by inventory, ‘Approaches to Studying Inventory, ASI’ (Entwistle and Ramsden, 1983). Refinement of ASI led to the development of ‘ASSIST, Approaches and Study Skills Inventory for Students’ (Tait et al. 1998)

    Negotiated settlements and peace referendums

    Institutional innovations in conflict management have received considerable academic attention in the past decades. Yet few studies have considered the design of referendums in peace processes and the role of popular mandates in catalysing negotiated settlements. Drawing evidence from divided societies, particularly the contrasting cases of South Africa and Cyprus, the article points to the importance of ratification sequence and early mandate referendums. Specifically, it demonstrates how mandate referendums focusing initially on domestic constituencies enable leaders to pre‐empt ethnic outbidding challenges while concluding a peace agreement. An early ratification process could safeguard the peace process from unavoidable reversals in public opinion, increase flexibility as to the timing of critical decisions and maximise the credibility of leaders aiming for a negotiated settlement. The study of mandate referendums has important implications for broader research on international mediations since it suggests mechanisms by which political actors could ensure the ratification of significant treaties in global or regional politics
