    No full text
The author attempts to develop five critical research guidelines from Tommaso Greco’s work entitled “The Law of Trust”. The five critical perspectives are dedicated to: the autonomy of the subject; the nature of solidarity; the paradigm of equity; the claim of the subject as the foundation of the legal system; the responsibility in obeying and disobeying a legal system. The premise of these five perspectives, which are both an instrument of analysis and proposals for in-depth study, is recognised in the general merit of Greco’s book of attempting a refounding of law on the basis of the recognition of the protagonism of the human subject

Spanish comic strip has a very long tradition and its development has been very often parallel to that of journalism. In this scenario the magazine Triunfo (1962-1982) played an important role as a democratic and progressive media during the repressive and paranoiac Francoist regime. The aim of this essay is to study the efforts made by the comic strip’s editorial staff of Triunfo in order to establish the significance of their work in the process of cultural and ideological change driven by the magazine. Chumy Chúmez, Sempé, Máximo and Núria Pompeia are only some of Triunfo’s big names that made the history of the Spanish comic strip.

Gender wars and cancel culture in academia: Umut Özkırımlı in conversation with Laura Favaro

    No full text
The Oxford English Dictionary defines cancel culture as «the action or practice of publicly boycotting, ostracizing, or withdrawing support from a person, institution, etc., thought to be promoting culturally unacceptable ideas». Though accurate, this definition is incomplete since cancel culture goes way beyond boycotting or ostracizing. It includes a wide spectrum of sanctions, spanning from public naming and shaming, censorship and job loss to intimidation and outright attacks in the form of verbal and physical abuse. This article discusses the mechanisms and negative impacts of cancel culture in academia by focusing on the case of Laura Favaro, who was ‘cancelled’ after publishing an article on the findings of her research on academia’s ‘gender wars’. The concerted attempts to silence certain — particularly feminist — perspectives on sex and gender have severe and wide-ranging implications for researchers and the scholarly endeavour as a whole, contributing to the toxic atmosphere created by the neoliberalisation of universities

To overcome this crisis the Author proposes to recover the paradigm of “prudentia iuris” through the daily activity of the judges
