Figures 2, 3 MycoBank No.: MB842566 Etymology:—‘ radiatosquamulosus refers in Latin refers to the radial arrangement of squamules on pileus surface. Species-specific ITS markers:—tgttact[T]ttttgta Main Characteristics:—This species is distinguished by having irregular and lumpy surface, brown roughly triangular squamules on pileus covering radiating towards margin, light pinkish brown discoloration at stipe base when cut, thick rhizomorph observed at pointed base of stipe, basidia monosporic (in N-224), frequently bisporic, tetrasporic also observed, cheilocystidia clavate to broadly clavate, Schäffer’s reaction positive but weak with faint orange color with reddish tint at stipe base of dry material. Type:— PAKISTAN. Punjab, University of the Punjab, Lahore, at 217 m a.s.l., solitary on rich loamy soil on the grassy grounds in Botanical Garden, 7 November 2017, Aiman Izhar, BG01 (holotype: LAH35769 ), GenBank ITS # ON490922. Description:— Pileus 3–5 cm in diam., convex to applanate, irregular, uneven or lumpy, covered by brown (4.8YR 5.3/2), roughly triangular, adpressed squamules, dense at disc then sparse towards margin, disc adpressed and rounded in BG01 and depressed in N-224, white to creamy (7.2PB 8.3/0.6) background, triangular shaped, no significant effect when rubbed, margins slightly appendiculate, entire, wavy, irregular, slightly exceeding lamellae. Surface dry and dull, irregular having small depressions and slightly uplifted spots throughout the surface (Figures 2A–C). Lamellae pink to dark brown, free and approximate, regular, edges entire, crowded, intercalated with lamellulae (Figure 2D). Stipe 4–5.5 × 0.5–1 cm, centrally attached, creamy white (3.8PB 7.7/1.3) with concolorous squamules, light pink below annulus, cylindrical, stuffed having annulus on its upper third part, color changed to light pinkish brown on rubbing or bruising, solid, provided with thick rhizomorph at the base (more evident in N-224) (Figure 2E, F). Annulus superous, membranous, double edged, striated on upper side, slightly fibrillose on under side, initially white then margin turning dark brown, ring zone observed in BG01 and pendent in N-224 at maturity, labile (Figure 2E, F). Context up to 5 mm thick in pileus, fleshy, white, solid, light pinkish brown discoloration at stipe base when cut. Odor mild, aniseed like. KOH reaction positive, light yellow; Schäffer’s reaction positive but weak on stipe base in dried specimens, faint orange with reddish tint. Basidiospores (5.5–) 6–6.5 (–6.9) × (3.8–) 4.1–4.5 (–5) µm, [avX = 6.5 ± 0.59 × 4.01 ± 0.42, Q m = 1.76, n = 2 × 50], brown in KOH with dark brown walls, broadly ellipsoid, rarely guttulate, smooth with a prominent apiculus (Figure 3A). Basidia (21.7–) 22–24.3 (–27.7) × (5.1–) 6.4–7.6 (–8.9) µm, [avX = 24.7 ± 2.96 × 7 ± 1.93 µm], thin walled, hyaline in KOH, broadly clavate, bisporic but mainly tetrasporic observed in BG01 specimen, frequently monosporic to bisporic observed in N-224, olivaceous granular contents abundant (Figure 3B). Cheilocystidia (14.3–) 15–16.9 (–18.6) × (5.8–) 6.1–7 (–7.7) µm, [avX = 16.9 ± 2.14 × 6.8 ± 0.92 µm], thin walled, hyaline in KOH, clavate to broadly clavate, olivaceous granular contents present (Figure 3C). Lower surface of annulus composed of two types of hyaline hyphae, cylindrical, frequently septate, vaguely constricted at septa with blunt ends, 2.5–12 µm in diam., others short, inflated elements with rounded ends, distinctly constricted at septa, 20–32 µm in diam. (Figure 3D). Pileipellis hyphae 4.3–11 µm in diam., [av = 7.9 µm], hyaline in KOH, septate, irregular in arrangement, branched, pileipellis trichoderm (Figure 3E). Stipitipellis hyphae 3.25–16.01 µm in diam., [av = 8.9 µm], hyaline in KOH, irregular in arrangement, branched, broad, septate (Figure 3F). Habit, habitat, and distribution:—Solitary on loamy soil under Dalbergia sissoo or in groups on grassy grounds of the Botanical Garden of the University of Punjab. Additional materials examined:— PAKISTAN. Punjab, Chichawatni, on soil in the grounds of Chichawatni Forest, at 164 m a.s.l. under Dalbergia sissoo, 9 August 2019, Nadia Fatima, N-224, (LAH36965), GenBank ITS # ON490923. Taxonomic comments:—Within A. sect. Fulventes, Agaricus sp. (ADK2171) is the closest related species to A. radiatosquamulosus and is briefly described in Ortiz-Santana et al., (2021). It could be necessary to compare the ITS sequences, which differ at four positions, to reliably distinguish these two species from each other. In the genus Agaricus, molecular data are often required for a 100% reliable identification. Spore size comparison in Table 2 shows that this trait is not very efficient to distinguish the species of A. sect. Fulventes from each other. In addition, cap diameter can be used only to distinguish Agaricus nanofulvens, which has a much smaller cap diameter (reaching up to 2.2 cm) than the other species. In addition, it differs from A. radiatosquamulosus, by the annulus with a smooth upper surface observed in the former while striated in the later species. In addition, cheilocystidia are absent in A. nanofulvens but clavate to broadly clavate in A. radiatosquamulosus. Agaricus radiatosquamulosus is known from Punjab Province of Pakistan and likely from India according to our phylogenetic analyses. Indeed, the clade corresponding to this taxon includes five sequences of specimens from India. Unfortunately, none of these sequences retrieved from the GenBank are taxonomically documented even the only one (CBS638.89) associated with a publication (Vu et al. 2019). Several characteristics agree well with the description of A. sect. Fulventes. such as brown pileus covering, presence of annulus on upper third, annulus superous, distinct rhizomorphs at the base of stipe, Schäffer’s reaction positive but weak on stipe base in dried specimens, annulus with few inflated cells. Dataset of traumatic myiasis observed for three dominant screw worm species in North West Pakistan with first report of Wohlfahrtia magnifica (Schiner)
AbstractRegional surveys were carried out in different parts of North West Pakistan among domestic animals (N=57,921) including pets and livestock identifying cases of traumatic myiasis (n=1037). A total of four surveys focused general livestock population during Eid ul Adha (Eid surveys; incidence=1.21%) while another four surveys (Miscellaneous surveys; incidence=7.34%) targeted animal population brought to veterinary hospitals and dispensaries. Timeframe spanned four years from 2012 to 2015. Maggots were sampled and location of the wound was recorded for each host. Taxonomic identification used light and electron microscopic techniques. Our dataset shows three species as principle agents of myiasis (n=882) including Chrysomya bezziana Villeneuve (n=394), Wohlfahrtia magnifica (n=244) and Lucilia cuprina Wiedemann (n=244). Others (n=155) including Chrysomya megacephala (Fabricius), Chrysomya rufifacies (Macquart), Lucilia sericata (Meigen), Lucilia illustris (Meigen), Lucilia porphyrina (Walker), Hemipyrellia ligguriens (Wiedemann), Calliphora vicina (Robineau-Desvoidy), Sarcophaga crassipalpalis (Macquart) and Sarcophaga species were identified as species of minor importance. The obligatory screwworm species W. magnifica is a first report from Pakistan. The results based on this dataset are presented in a recent publication “Distribution Modeling of three screwworm species in the ecologically diverse landscape of North West Pakistan” (Zaidi et al., 2016) [1]
Does Employee retention affect Organizational Competence?
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that affect employee retention and to analyze the relationship between the factors of employee retention and organizational competence. Approach: A model is proposed that illustrates the factors as rewards. Career development opportunities, work environment and supervisor support affects employee retention in organizations and also demonstrates the relationship between factors affecting employee retention and the organizational competence. Findings: Results illustrates that rewards, career development opportunities, supervisor support and work environment have a positive relationship with employee retention as well as the development of organizational competence by retaining employees. Synthesis and characterization of ZnO-based/derived nanoparticles as promising photocatalysts
Biocompatibility and the ability to create tumor-killing reactive oxygen species have drawn increasing attention to zinc oxide (ZnO) based/derived nanoparticles for photodynamic treatment. There are several variables that may affect the performance of ZnO-based NPs in PDT that can be manipulated by doping and compositing. Among these variables are the charge separation, the absorption potential, and the bandgap engineering. A chance for ontology
This paper speaks to Hook’s thesis that a National Māori University needs to be established. However, it sets about this task by designating Hook’s intended central concerns to the outer reaches of his article’s limits, and moving towards the core those more ephemeral issues, which, despite their haziness, still demand attention. Hook builds an argument premised on assertions to do with the functional need for a National Māori University, and only hints at the nature of the knowledge to be experienced at such an institution – yet as the commentator I found that the various elements of that peripheral issue coalesced to demand my attention. In this peer commentary I consider how issues to do with the very nature of knowledge – if indeed we want to call it that – become absolutely vital (and hence central) to any discussion about a National Māori University
Association of ABO Blood group phenotypes with FEV1/FVC values among students of Aziz Fatima Medical and Dental College
Objective: To find the frequency of obstructive and restrictive lung disease in various blood groups in young students of Aziz Fatimah Medical and dental college.
Methods: This cross-sectional analytical study was conducted at Aziz Fatima Medical and Dental College, Faisalabad from 1st January to 31st March 2022. It included 80 participants of first-year MBBS comprising both genders between 18 to 22 years. Ethical approval was taken from the institutional ethical committee of the institute. After fulfilling inclusion and exclusion criteria blood grouping was done by conventional slide method and Spirometry was performed to access lung function parameters to determine obstructive and restrictive lung diseases. Data was analyzed by using SPSS version 26.
Results: The study population included 36 males (45%) and 44 females (55%). Mean±SD age of participants was 20 ± 1.07 years. The most frequent blood group was B followed by O, A and AB. Restrictive lung disease ( FEV1/FVC ratio ≥ 0.8) was found in 19(23.8%) participants while obstructive lung disease ( FEV1/FVC ratio <0.8) was found in 46(57.5%) participants. Obstructive lung diseases were more frequently found in subjects with blood group AB while restrictive lung diseases were more commonly noticed in subjects with blood group O. Mean±SD of FEV1/FVC% of subjects with obstructive and restrictive lung diseases were 45.15± 19.04 and 81.79±8.25 respectively.
Conclusion: Blood group AB is more prone to have Obstructive lung disease with decreased FEV1/FVC ratio. Restrictive lung disease was more commonly seen in blood group O.
Heat and Work, Health, and Safety in Australia: Intra-urban risk assessment, future projections, and workplace policy analysis
High ambient temperatures pose significant challenges for Work, Health, and Safety (WHS) with increased risk of occupational injuries and illnesses (OI). Previous studies provide evidence on the impacts of heat on OI at broader scales. However, such heat exposure may vary at an intra-urban scale. Analysing the location-specific heat-related OI risk within cities is crucial for tailored risk reduction. Therefore, this thesis aimed to understand the multifaceted impacts of heat on WHS at intra-urban scale, with the main objectives:1. Conducting such intra-urban risk assessments in diverse climates of Australia, 2. Identifying vulnerable groups of workers, 3. Projecting future OI risk under climate change scenarios, 4. Assessing the efficacy of existing heat-related policies in high-risk industries. A mixed method approach was utilised. In the quantitative part, the associated impacts of heat on OI were estimated in four cities of Australia including Greater Adelaide, Greater Brisbane, Greater Melbourne, and Greater Sydney. The epidemiological assessments were conducted using time series study design coupled with distributed lag non-linear models using quasi-poison distribution at statistical area level 3. Vulnerable groups of workers were identified based on their environmental, personal and workplace characteristics. Risk of OI and attributable fraction (AF) associated with projected climate change scenarios were also predicted for the four cities. In the qualitative part, WHS policy documents were assessed thematically using a framework of analysis approach in high risk construction industry. The policy documents were acquired from one large commercial construction company and its sub-contractors.
The risk of OI varied geographically within cities. Typically, areas characterized by consistently hot weather conditions posed a heightened OI risk for workers. In Greater Adelaide, it was the northern and western regions that exhibited greater vulnerability among workers. In Greater Brisbane and Greater Sydney, workers in the western inland areas had a higher burden of heat-related OI compared to eastern coastal areas. In Greater Melbourne, workers in densely populated inner-city regions were vulnerable to the impacts of heat. Overall, younger workers (aged < 45 years), male workers, those engaged in heavy physical work, and those working predominantly outdoors were at elevated risk of OI. The complex interactions between environmental and socio-economic factors played an essential role in the spatial patterns of heat-related OI risk dynamics. Regions with less vegetation and lower socio-economic status were found to be more vulnerable. Such risk is predicted to increase due to climate change. Cities with warm baseline climates, such as Greater Brisbane and Greater Sydney, will face a higher risk. Policy document analysis suggests that the development and implementation of heat-related policies are still in their early stages. Priorities for heat-related policy development include an increased emphasis on preparation and planning for hot weather and considering localised workplace and individual risk factors in assessing the heat hazards. Research findings with location-specific risk identification will have implications for OI risk prevention by relevant stakeholders.
