    No full text

CAPRI versus AGLINK-COSIMO: Two partial equilibrium models - Two baseline approaches

    No full text
The agricultural modelling world has generated several models aiming at the analysis of the response of the sector to certain changes in exogenous mainly policy variables. Among those, the CAPRI modelling system developed by a consortium centred on the University of Bonn and the AGLINK-COSIMO model, a joint product of the OECD and the FAO, are well known and accepted as comprehensive tools. This analysis focuses on a qualitative comparison of both models and particularly on the process of setting up the baseline. The baseline is a medium-term projection of agricultural markets reflecting current policies and those already decided upon. This projection in turn serves as the base for comparisons when analyzing scenarios. It is shown that CAPRI uses generic and automatic procedures whenever possible for conducting the database and the baseline, while AGLINK-COSIMO puts more emphasis on expert knowledge in this process. Both approaches are shown to have certain advantages while the conclusion that a combination of them would potentially improve both models will be drawn from this analysis.CAPRI, AGLINK-COSIMO, Baseline process, Agricultural and Food Policy,

Saintly doctors : the early iconography of SS. Cosmas and Damian in Italy

    No full text
The Italian iconography of the doctor saints Cosmas and Damian reflects fluctuations in the fortunes of the cult of those saints with significant variations in appearance and meaning being tied to changes in the position of the saints with respect to function, as miraculous healers, as representatives of professional doctors and as patrons of a powerful family. This study considers the development of the iconography of the doctor saints Cosmas and Damian in Italy, beginning with the emergence of images in the late antique period. These early representations are explored within the context of the historic and liturgical origins of the cult of SS. Cosmas and Damian with particular attention paid to the hagiography and more specfically the miracle stories which provide a significant amount of information about the role of images in a Christian healing cult. Evidence that sheds light on the early development of the iconography of the saints reflecting their position within the broader context of the establishment of Christian healers in direct opposition to their popular pagan counterparts. In the fourteenth century the appearance of SS. Cosmas and Damian was transformed mirroring the appearance of contemporary doctors, which in turn reflected the professionalisation of medicine and the role of the saints as patrons to members of that profession. This iconographic development is considered in the context of sources such as university statutes and civic sumptuary regulations that helped to shape the environment of increasing specialization that resulted in the necessity of a distinctive costume for qualified professionals. At the same time there remained continuity in the position SS. Cosmas and Damian inhabited in the popular imagination with images of the saints continuing to be associated with their traditional role as miraculous healers. Finally the large number of images commissioned by Cosimo de’ Medici in Florence in the first half of the fifteenth century are examined. At this time the position of the saints, as intercessors for and protectors of the Medici family allowed them to appear in unfamiliar locations granting them a civic and political relevance not achieved before in the history of the cult. The clear identification of the saints with the family allowed them to act as a reminder of the family’s position in Florence and for a time the doctors were known as family patrons rather than solely as doctors and healers

15 e all’art. 21 Cost. The paper concerns the relationship between the crime of “Illicit distribution of sexually explicit images or videos” (Article 612-ter of the Italian Criminal Code) and the constitutional freedoms of correspondence and expression of thought. Specifically, the Author reflects on whether the offence under art. 612-ter affects the freedoms pursuant to Article 15 and Article 21 of the Constitution. Indeed, the offender’s sole objective is to damage the victim’s moral identity and reputation. For this reason, we should not be misled by the fact that the conduct targeted in Article 612-ter may (exclusively) be implemented using means of communication designed for the transmission of thought. In fact, the Author believes that the constitutional foundation for art. 612-ter of the Italian Criminal Code is to be found in Articles 2, 3 and 13 of the Constitution (regarding the freedom of self-determination), while the freedom of correspondence and freedom of expression of thought are not restricted by the crime in question

Published in 1957 and joined to the Our Ancestors trilogy in 1965, The Baron in the Trees, by Italo Calvino, is a portrait of the changes in Europe during the 18th century, shown through the preposterous life of Cosimo, the baron that lived in the trees. Cosimo can be interpreted as a microcosm of the 18th century, and the tale of his adventures is a way to trace the intellectual journey of the West. The present work aims to discuss the relationship between history and fiction with the structural and discursive analysis of The Baron in the Trees, and to analyze the intellectual and moral coming of age of the main character, along with a genealogy of the novel, presented in Calvino's work. To that end, we will show the relationship between the novels The Baron in the Trees alludes to and the growth of the readership, the birth and the coming of age of the literary genre that is part of the origins of the bourgeois society: the novel. We will also discuss the impact of the Enlightenment on the thoughts and actions of the main character, since, in the person of Cosimo, we see a reader, an inventor, a philosopher and a storyteller. To study the relationship between fiction and history, we shall prioritize the metafictional reflexion that appears in the narrator's voice, in a discussion about the role of the historian and the author and the thin line that keeps them apart. We will also investigate Calvino's aesthetic and ideological position in his reflexions on the role of literature and of the scholars in the modern world.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES

Una lettera odeporica di Cosimo De Giorgi

    No full text
EnWhile the first half of the nineteenth century saw the inauguration of a penchant for local and circumscribed itineraries, Cosimo De Giorgi, in a long and detailed letter to a friend from Pisa (later given to the press), sets out his brief experience of a railroad journey from Bari to Taranto. It is a report that skillfully combines technical and naturalistic information about the territory with sketchy descriptions of the places, but it is also embellished with notes on the author's state of mind and with his erudite observations. The essay aims to frame this lesser-known text by the eclectic Salento author within the framework of nineteenth-century odeporics by noting its characters and specificities.

Accesso a Internet e digital divide

    No full text
The article analyses the issue of Internet access and digital divide, also considering Covid-19 health emergency. The Author acknowledges that Internet is now a fundamental prerequisite for exercising civil and political rights and for developing individual's personality. Therefore, retracing doctrinal orientations developed on Internet access, he believes that it should not be configured as a right but a mere functional instrument for exercising fundamental rights. Hence the need to shift the centre of gravity of the issue from the right to the instrument to the effectiveness of the right exercisable through the instrument. Therefore, without the need to include Internet access in the list of (fundamental) rights, it is argued that it must be subsumed in the context of the public service, and in particular in the universal service. This in fact would entail the undoubted advantage - with the Constitution unchanged - of not excluding any segment of the population from the Internet service (it would be better, from broadband connection). All this is also investigated from the visual angle of Covid-19 health emergency, which has sharpened digital divide and that made the intervention of the legislator necessary to better guarantee Internet access, since through the remote connection (and only through it) it was possible to exercise certain fundamental rights during the lockdown
